A pet peeve

You want to know what irks my tater?!?

I'm beyond fed up with those programs out there that are nothing but little attention whores.  Schools like Fresno State..."We'll play ANYONE, ANYWHERE!"  Sure you will...you'll play them, and after you get your butt handed to you, it's back to scheduling softies like Sacramento State, Toledo, etc.  You hear that sound Pat Hill?!?  That's your team taking yet another beating.  Just give it up already and slip into mediocrity in a conference with Nevada, Idaho, and Utah State why don't you.

As offensive as Fresno State can be...there's one other school out there that's pissing me off something fierce.  Step to the mic, Boise State.  Why can't you be like everyone else and play your games on a Saturday?  Why must you whore yourselves out for TV attention...so everyone can peep your intimidating SMURF TURF?  We get it...you're poor.  You've got no money in the coffers..but come on already.  This is the second week in a row that you've played in a game on Sunday.  I mean, are all your "fans" busy boinking sheep or picking spuds on a Saturday afternoon?

Look at this schedule breakdown for the current year:

Thursday games - 2
Friday games - 2
Saturday games - 6
Sunday games - 2

Give up the gimmicks Boise State.  Change that stupid turf, start up a Dateline NBC sheep sex-offender kinda program, and PLAY YOUR GAMES ON A SATURDAY!!!

Totally disagree
Mid-major teams like Fresno and Boise that are capable of pulling upsets are one of my favorite things about college football.  I root for those teams pretty much every week unless they're playing Oregon.  The fact that their games or on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays is awesome to me, that means i don't have to wait as long to see college football.  What about that game tonight?  4 OTs, that was an amazing game to watch.

Also I'm really looking forward to:
Hawaii Vs. Fresno
Boise Vs. Fresno
Hawaii Vs. Boise

I much rather watch these games than a lot of the random Big Ten or SEC games that are on every saturday.

Say what?!?
Mid-majors capable of pulling upsets?!?  I'm not against the schools....just their SCHEDULING.  Don't you think it's just a little unfair for a team like Southern Miss. to have to travel to f'ing Boise for a Thursday night game?  These aren't professionals...they're college students with academic obligations and to screw with the practice scheduling for a week seems a little unfair.  The NCAA limits the number of hours for practice each day/week, don't they?  It's no doubt they're upsetting a team or two every year because of these built-in advantages.

How about the Beavers
starting the season with two Thursday games?

To be honest, Thursday games don't bother me, as long as there are no more than two per week.  I don't like Sunday games.  But what really bothers me is Friday games.  Fridays belong to high school kids.

how about the duck?
we play at arizona on a thursday, does that mean we are attention whores?

yes
but like I said, Thursdays don't bother me.  Fridays and Sundays are not good, though.

You're not reading me here
One or two games on a non-Saturday is fine....but HALF of your schedule every year...that's beyond excessive.

I love to watch college football
The more Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday games the better

I don't like
or watch the NFL (or high school football) so the Sunday (or Friday) games are cool with me especially when its a team that I'm a semi-fan of like Boise.  The fact of the matter is that having these games on these odd days is brilliant marketing by these schools athletic departments because these games are NATIONALLY televised.  How many Ducks games do you think air on basic cable on the east coast this is year?  Maybe one?  Well Boise has six and I guarentee they have picked up thousands of fans across the US because of this TV coverage.  That's going to translate into to better recruits and more revenue.  Hell, Marshall is one of my favorite teams and mostly because they've had a ton of national TV games on odd days over the past 5-10 years (Go Herd!, I'm hoping they can win a least one game this year)

I Agree
If Fresno State concetrated on teams of similar quality with one or two soft top conference teams (Stanford, Iowa...) to make themselves look good they could have a dominate program within the lesser ranks of NCAA football. That would mean more bowl games, more revenue... Hill could make himself a nice little kingdom.

Also, like you, I really dislike the non Saturday games. Oh, I suppose a few Friday games is OK, but that takes attention away from local HS teams that also need support. But those non Saturday games are all about TV revenue- and I understand that.

Good post.
