I was so excited to see Harper contribute Saturday. I was at the game, and really couldn't believe how much playing time he was getting at WR. As the game went on I started to think about what a nightmare matchup he can be for CB's...he's too big for the smaller DB's, and he's too quick for the bigger ones.
I couldn't help but start thinking about another QB that sacrificed for his team and switched positions: Anquan Boldin. Harper is already 6' 3", 230 lbs (Boldin is 6' 1", 217 lbs), and looks like he has that "playmaker" ability; that catch was a great catch, especially for someone that just moved to WR this week.
I've heard and read a ton of comparisons to Kordell Stewart. I think this comparison is much different in that Kordell still played mostly QB, whereas Boldin moved almost exclusively to WR. Harper's future seems totally up in the air right now. Does he move back to QB sometime in the future? Does he redshirt at some point? Or does he begin his development at WR and start the path to breaking all J-Will's records?
[UPDATE] Moseley's blog says Harper will remain at receiver for the rest of the year:
