No TV at ASU?
So it looks as though there will be no broadcast of Ducks at Devils in Tempe next weekend. And I feel as though everytime I miss a Duck game, they lose. Now it's up to all of us in the blogosphere to somehow find a TV stream in the coming week. There has got to be one somewhere. There are some here and around that are skilled at foraging for such, so now's a good time for you to show off your skill. We all would much appreciate it, and I'm sure I'd love you forever.
Can it be done?

I don't think this game will be shown on any TV....
maybe ones in Sun Devil Stadium while people stand in line for food, but that’s about it.

When KEZI had the ducks replays, even when they didn’t have a live feed, they used to broadcast the game back to Eugene via satellite for airing later. Those with the old-fashioned giant dishes and the knowledge of the satellite coordinates could get them.
There has to be something like that…

Back in the day, the coordinates were easy to find.
I was able to catch a couple of non-televised games in 2002-2003 by finding the satellite coordinates and taking them to my local sports bar. The coordinates were listed in the U of O press release for that week’s game, and were also posted on the eDuck message boards. Sports bars that had the “big dish” had no problem pulling in the live feed, straight from the production truck.
Nowadays, things have changed. Sports bars don’t have the “big dish” anymore, as they get all the programming they need from DirecTV. The weekly press release does not list the satellite coordinates, and the message board moderators forbid any posting of coordinates. I suspect there are a few bars (Claudia’s in Portland maybe?) that can still find the non-broadcast games, but not where I live.
I am most annoyed that even O-Zone is not allowed to show the game. I paid $80 for a subscription, and now I can’t even see the game on my crummy laptop?
I really despise Fox Sports.

FWIW, Lava Lanes in Bend has the big dish, and always showed those games...
If anyone has any concrete leads on bars in Portland, I’d sure appreciate it!

Burning Bridges... Hopefully
You would think that with the Pac-10 contract ending soon (not soon enough as it seems) that FSN would be trying to secure a future contract by working with the individual schools, not shunning them. To deny a school the right to show a game to their local market, at the VERY LEAST, is appalling. FSN has clearly shown that they have put their intrests first and are not a good choice to lead our conference into the future. Hopefully these slights are remembered when we sit down at the negotiations table in 2010…

agree
This moves us one step closer to ridding our conference of FSN. What a great day that will be.

Do you need a radio recording of the broadcast for your torrent? I plan on recording the game and will encode in mp3 format most likely. Let me know if you want to do the mashup

no problem. I’ll figure out a way to make it available to you. BTW, just for my own curiosity, what kind of set up do you use to record the games? I’ve been looking for a way to do it myself but have gotten lost in the morass of digital recording, DRM and the like

I use a direct Coaxial cable feed to my computer and I record TV via Windows Media Center (It’s free and simple. Not the best though.) I’ve had one DRM issue in the past (FSN tried to pull a fast one), but other than that, it works out alright.
You can get TV input cards, external TV input devices, or video cards with TV input for around $50-$150. I’m a bachelor, so I can do cool things. Right now,I have my 36’ LCD widescreen TV as my computer monitor, so it’s a natural setup for me to record games with the direct cable input for my TV. My whole TV+DVR is operated through my PC.

Cool things...
I’m not a bachelor, as proven by the fact that my wife seemingly has convinced me that “cool things” include mowing, laundry, cleaning the garage and taking yard debris to the dump.

Email the Pac-10 TV Rep
Duane Lindberg is the Conference guy that should get 800 emails about this TV nightmare. His email is probably something like: dlindberg@pac-10.org
But you didn’t hear it from me. Be gentle.

Satellite
Here are (supposedly) the coordinates: KU Band, Galaxy 11, Transponder 15
The trick is finding a bar with the old school satellite dish. Anyone know of one in the Bay Area?
