Ernie Kent on the Hot Seat
Gary Parrish with CBS Sports has an interesting story up on 10 coaches on the hotseat for this year. Number 6 on the list is our own Ernie Kent. The Mark Few rumor is discussed as well as the recent contract extension.
I'm curious though, is Kent set up for a fall? He has a really young team this year and we may see some very tough losses. With the new arena looming, can the contract extension just be a shade covering up what is really going on or is this all just the same "Fire Ernie" talk that has been going on for the last couple of years.

My thoughts on Kent
Given the youth on the current team, I personally believe that there should be almost no performance-related scenarios this season that would result in Kent being fired, barring an extreme case where the Ducks turn into last year’s Beaver squad. This season looks like it should be focused on development given all inexperience on the squad.
That being said, I also believe that there is a good possibility that the above belief is not shared by some of the decision-makers. There have been enough rumors over the past regarding Kent’s tenuous position that it seems likely there is something there. Maybe a season in which the Ducks finish below .500 in conference is the excuse that can be used for bringing in a new coach.
