Chip Kelly Interviews with Syracuse
I don't want him to go but will be happy for him if he decides to further his career. Heading back to the East Coast might be something very much on his mind

Hmm...
Interesting….
I just really don’t think he’ll be going anywhere. I don’t have much to back that up, just a feeling.

Especially with a mid-sized school in not-too-much of a rut.
…yep, we’re totally screwed. Bye Chip. Don’t forget us.
Alright time's up lez do this...
Syracuse...
…would be a bad job to take. It is in an absolutely horrible rut, and has been for a long time. It will take a long time to get that program back to where it used to be, even in the Big East.

It's really hard to recruit there
Their facilities are crap, and it’s not really close to any other metro areas.
Still I’m more worried about a school like Syracuse taking him than other schools in the west coast, though I’d rather him go to the Big East than the Pac-10, and he will be gone in a year or 2, if not now.
drama queen
I know that you're thinking about making a Woodburn joke. Know that I will pummel you if you do.
I miss you, ATQ.

Before you jump off the cliff...
Remember that Bellotti interviewed for the vacancy at Ohio State that Jim Tressel eventually took. Also UCLA came calling and was rebuffed. Just because he is interviewing doesn’t mean he is gone and Syracuse is pretty far down in the crapper. It would be an opportunity to head coach, that’s for sure but there is a lot of things going for the Oregon program as well.

well said
I’d be more concerned for recruiting than anything else if CK left. We’d have to find a replacement that runs a similar system, or we’re left with a whole recruiting class of Brady Leafs-players that are good, but aren’t a fit for the offense.
It's spelled "M-A-R-C-H-I-N-G-B-A-N-D."
I support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.
Well said...
1) He interviewed, they didn’t offer (yet).
2) Syracuse would be a very bad move. The chances of failure for any coach are very high. Is Chip ready for a head coaching position? I say not at a D1 level. If he takes this job and failed, he would be set back for quite a while.
I also don’t feel that he’s ready to be a D1 head coach. I most likely would not hire him at this point, were I an AD. He had one great year, with great talent. This year has had it’s ups and downs, and I’ve been disappointed with his play calling quite a bit. I just feel that he still has a lot to learn about running a D1 program before jumping to that next level. He’ll get there soon, but not now.
Another thing, I totally disagree about system player. Oregon recruits athletes, that can play in just about any system. There would be the time spent learning a new system, sure, but it’s not like we’d have a whole bunch of new players.

I would also clarify...
that a lot depends on how the interview went. He could know everything a head coach needs to know to run a great D1 program. Or he could not. That is what the interview is for. A lot will rest on that, but the list of people Syracuse talked to is quite long, and there are other coaches that would probably be better fits.
I don’t see him getting this offer. Wait 1 or 2 years, but not this year.

I kind of agree
I wouldn’t hire him, but that doesn’t mean some dumbass AD won’t role the dice with him
recruits
I would agree that our recruits could move into a more conventional offense. It is much easier to move athletes from the spreed to “normal” offense then to move less athletic guys into the spreed. Hey Michigan, hows it going?
Ducks Go!
I disagree again :)
Michigan didn’t have talent, esp. at the QB position. They will be good. Anytime you change systems, there will be problems. It takes a while to pick up the new schemes. If you have talent (Oregon 05), it can be done. You don’t (Michigan 08), it will be very very difficult.
Most systems can be tailored to run plays that will most fit your most skilled players.
But it will suck moving back to a “normal” system after the spread, just because it will mean that everyone will have to re-learn all the basics off the offense all over again, not due to any toughness of a system. Each system has its intricacies.

Wouldn't make much sense
He’s got a great situation at Oregon. Nice facilities, good recruiting, one of the top conferences, national exposure. If he’s confident in the program’s future—and he has every reason to be—he either gets called on by better programs than Syracuse, or Belotti finally retires and CK is the front-runner for the job here. He’s still young at 45-ish, and a few more years fattening his resume is no big deal if the goal is a HC job.
Well
It will be hard to ignore tonight’s performance during the Syracuse interview

I like what I am hearing and seeing of Kelly
Clearly I am in the Skip Holtz camp (which must make you all happy)….but I like Kelly too, and think he would have every chance to do well in Syracuse.
What people seem to forget is…Syracuse was a BCS team as recently as 9 years ago. This fall was rapid. Pasqualoni drove this car off the tracks, and Robinson drove it into the wall. Robinson was a bad choice because he does not know Northeastern football and Northeastern recruiting. A coach who does can win here.
Is Kelly that guy? I dont know. But add a guy who knows how to recruit to the money that the university has committed to pouring into the program, and Syracuse can be a low level bowl team in 2 years, and can be a conference title contender in 4.
Jobs are scarce in Syracuse these days...
We could do with the population reduction… ;)
Seriously…that you all are so passionate about keeping him makes me think he really is someone special…we’ll see…he’s clearly among the finalists…but I have no idea where on the pecking order he ranks.

Kelly likes to skin kittens alive with fire.
You don’t want that at Syracuse.
It's spelled "S-h-u-h-u-s-k-y-h-a-t-e-r"
Chip Kelly will clip his toenails in dead silence in your living room.
Alright time's up lez do this...
I'm so tired of that excuse
that he can’t find them because they’re somewhere on the carpet.
Alright time's up lez do this...
I don't think Chip's going anywhere just yet.
He needs another year or two of D-1 prep.
But just to make certain, can we offer him both the O-coordinator AND the D-coordinator jobs and pay him double? Tell Syracuse we’ll trade them Aliotti for a big box of fresh Florida oranges and a toasted pastrami sandwich.
The ATQer formerly known as Seattle Quacker...oh yeah, I hate the wings.
Perry's is in the loop, at like Lake and Franklin...
They put about a pound of pastrami on one sandwich.
--www.AddictedToQuack.com, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
Man I am so getting a pastrami from somewhere tomorrow
I’ll have to check it out next time I’m in the loop
Bellotti contradicted Rivals...
He said that Kelly has no interviews scheduled…
So who knows.

I saw that too.
However… it may be an unhealthy way to live, not trusting your coaches, but I can’t help but keep thinking of “Dixon will play Saturday with a ‘Sprained Knee’.”
Alright time's up lez do this...
slightly OT: Other coaching candidates
Why don’t I hear Nick Holt’s name for any of these vacancies, sure he failed at Idaho, but so did Erickison. And the SC D is pretty damn good.
The other name I always expect to hear more is Mariucci, he did well in his one year at Cal, and he had a pretty good recruiting class, yet he seems to have been forgotten in both leagues.
I'd be happy if Mooch never worked again
The way he actively undermined Harrington was a joke.
I’ve let the guys over at brother SBNation Syracuse Blog Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician know just what kind of guy Chip is.
So far we have this (I’ve added a few):
1. He eats babies.
2. Kelly likes to skin kittens alive with fire.
3. Chip Kelly will clip his toenails in dead silence in your living room.
4. The difference between a Porsche and a pile of dead Pandas in Kelly’s garage? He doesn’t own a Porsche.
5. He HATES Oranges. He turns into a mindless beast when he sees them. Heaven forbid he ever makes it to the Orange Bowl.
If you have more, please add them. We need to make sure the guys at Syracuse know the real Chip Kelly.
It's spelled "S-h-u-n-b-o-w-l"
#4 is usually a dead baby joke.
How does Chip Kelly get a pile of dead babies into his trunk? Blender.
How does he get them out? Nachos.
Kicker.
