65-38 Post Game Open Thread

It was one of the best offensive performances we've ever seen. It was the most points ever given up by an OSU team, even in their worst years. It was the most yards ever compiled in an Oregon game.

And all this happened in Reser Stadium, when OSU was looking for its first Rose Bowl birth in over 40 years.

This was a great night. Great for Patrick Chung, Nick Reed, Jeremiah Johnson, and many, many others.

So, chatter here, celebrate here, and let's here it for a team that's had it's ups and downs, but came through when it mattered most.

GO DUCKS!

P.S. Enjoy El Paso or Las Vegas rodents.

Not going to lie. This feels fantastic.

Forget the Rose Bowl. Forget Pac 10 championship. We just beat the beavers by 27 at home. And wait, we hadn’t won there since 1996? Sorry beavs. Looks like the ducks just wanted this one more.

Feel free to take it all out at CGB. But be careful, I just had to warn JShufelt. He got in it GOOD with HydroTech. He said a few things about part of a Cal game against Washington in 2006 that Hydro had broken down in a 46 part series. Hydro took it a BIT too seriously. You know how it is.

Outcome of tonight’s Civil War notwithstanding, how about the current state of officiating in the Pac-10. I thought some of the calls and non-calls on both teams tonight were somewhere beyond unbelievable. How does this get fixed?

65-38

Hello Beaver Nation,

Over the weeks leading up to today’s cival war game, I have found several links that have taken me to this website and blog while trying to get the latest on the upcoming cival war.

While reading through some of the posts, I kept noticing a similar theme which was the irrationallity, immaturity and lack of logic of Beaver fans. The post that motivated me to even consider joining this blog was one where it was suggested that the entire crowd at the today’s cival war game should laugh at the Ducks as the enter the stadium.

Why should they laugh?

Because the Ducks don’t deserve to be on the field with the Beavers
Because it is a forgone conclusion that the Beavers are going to the Rose Bowl after beating the Ducks
Because the Ducks are too focused on their uniforms to be a viable oppoenent to the Beavers.
Because our defense is a joke
Because even without Quizz OSU will easily handle the lame Ducks
The Ducks response? 65-38 spanking of the Beavers. For those of you who booked your flights to the Rose Bowl, enjoy watcing USC do better against Penn State then OSU would ever hope to do. I hate USC but at least they deserve to represent the PAC 10 against a top 10 team in PSU.

I look forward to your next inane and undeservadly arrogant post.

Enjoy El Paso.

Number of Big Plays for the Ducks

11 between 10 and 20 yards
2 between 20 and 30 yards (pass to Pflu and a Masoli Run)
3 between 30 and 40 yards (pass to Dickson, a pass to Williams, and DT’s pass to Maehl)
2 between 40 and 50 yards (pass to Dickson and a Blunt Run)
76 yard pass to Scott
79 yard run by Johnson
83 yard run by Johnson

21 out of 66 total plays (32%) were for 10 yards or more – pretty damn awesome

by bradLL99 on Nov 30, 2008 7:59 AM PST reply actions

Gee, so were your guys saving this game up all year? You know, had you doled it out little at a time in different games (say, like against $C), you might have had a few more wins this year. I mean, I get wanting to stomp your rival, but saving it all up for the end.

In any case, congratulations on a very impressive win and on another good season. Oh, and thanks for ensuring Cal plays in some lame-ass third tier bowl. Ugh.

where was harper?

I thought I saw the camera cut to him on a trainers table early in the game… injury?

Yeah. He was definitely on sitting on the sideline. I don’t recall him lining up at all.

Either do I. He wasn’t on any pregame injury report, and I haven’t seen anything mentioned in post game coverage. Get the kid some touches!

I saw him on the trainers table with a grim look

Kinda worried me but I’m sure he’s fine.

Great game

I was flipping back and forth between the Civil War and the Reformation Bowl 2008 in the Coliseum – leaving aside the Rose Bowl implications, my brother’s an Oregon alum so I was hooting and hollering when Blount and Johnson were tearing through the Beavers’ defense. Hell of a game by the Ducks.

by DC Trojan on Nov 30, 2008 11:57 AM PST reply actions

I was there and at the end of the game Blount came over to celebrate and tore up a rose and threw it on the ground, it was awesome, did anyone else see that?

Awesome.

I saw the Duck holding a wilted one in his hand.

I beg to differ, those beavers need to practice better hygene

One of the comments on that entry

“What a coincidence! My penis smells like mulch.”

Deadspin commenters > Lots of things

I do wish they did a little more CFB commentary, though.

Karma is real.

CV3000 and the rest of Beaver Nation brought this 65-38 whippin’ on themselves. Don’t talk so much crap before the game, rodents. I hope all of their Rose Bowl tickets are non-refundable.

Thoughts

I was out riding the dunes all weekend so I didn’t get to participate in anything. We drove into a pizza shop in Reedsport that had a “Civil War Party: 3 p.m.” sign out front. The guy that owns it is a HUGE duck fan. He bought 2 roses and colored them orange and black. Every time the Ducks scored he ran around had random people pluck a pedal off the rose. Needless to say, the few Beaver fans that showed up for the “Civil War Party” quickly realized it was a Duck party and bailed. It was called Bedrock Pizza.

I’ve read through the comments and don’t see this anywhere, so let me know if I missed it. Did anyone notice the OS students that were shirtless with letters painted on their bodies? The “E” was gone, so the guys standing side-by-side said “BAVERS”. The whole game we kept laughing because they kept showing them. We were calling OS the bay-vers the whole game. I don’t think the “E” was ever in the shot. I bet that dude is just Mr Popular. Did anyone else notice this?

Funny story

The E got kicked out cuz he was too drunk

You could see the fear in the rest of the students as they surely knew they looked dumb

Actually, they might have kicked him out for swearing. Apparently you can’t say motherf*cker anymore

Well from my past experience last year at the UW game

You are taken to the police unit in the stadium, they take your information and your ticket from you, you’re not allowed to re-enter the stadium for anywhere from 24-48 hours, or else you will be charged with criminal trespassing and whatever else you may encounter (assault if its fighting, etc)

Now, I can’t speak for whoever got ejected on Saturday for doing that. I don’t know what happened to him/her

I'm going to defend CV3000 right now, and you can take it how you like

If you read what CV writes, and read between the lines, the anti-Oregon, methgene, whatever, he generally has some really good points. He has one of the more football smart brains of anyone that I’ve seen post. He knows stats, players, games, plays, strategy, schemes, almost everything there is to know about Beaver football. He could probably pull the stats that proves the correlation with a QB dating a blond and his TD/INT ratio. Now I know that if he did it with a little less dose of CV and little more dose of VD it might be better received, but we take what we can get, don’t we?

For example, on the eve of the Penn State game, CV wrote an article talking about how the game didn’t matter. It didn’t matter if we won or lost. He said the Stanford game would prove more important by the end of the year. That Stanford loss sure does loom large now doesn’t it? CV3000 couldn’t have been more correct in his assessment.

All that being said, what he wrote the other day got shoved back in his face. And to the Duck fans that have been around all year (Butthol, JShufelt, you, etc) just read what he writes and shake your head. You’ll notice the Duck fans that were freaking out hadn’t been blogging at all until this week— and surprisingly they were acting the same exact way that CV3000 acts; you may have notice that most of their user names didn’t register as pro-Duck but instead as anti-Beaver. Duck fans blame CV3000 for being more anti-Duck than pro-Beav, and apparently he stirred those very same Duck fans that he has been writing about.

I think he knows (even though he won’t admit it) that there are classy Duck fans out there who have a semblance of football knowledge about them. It took me 3 years of college to find them, but now that I have some are good friends. Hell, one even crashed at my house last night. 3 years ago, there would have been a drunken fight that would have ended poorly for everyone. So guys, just take what CV3000 says with a grain of salt. And really, next time you get a chance, read some of his posts. Read between the lines. You will find some good info.

The problem is that CV3000 often appears to be inflamatory just to be inflamatory.

And people will immediately stop reading between the lines and focus on the remarks. It’s like playing with fire and unfortunately your blog is getting the brunt of it. I consider myself a pretty even keeled duck fan and I haven’t been able to finish even one of his main page posts. Marine’s comparison to the beehive is pretty accurate. CV300 needs to come out and accept the criticism for this to subside in the near future.

Y'know, maybe CV should show up and take his lumps

We put up with his nonsense enough to expect a mea culpa. If he does, then great—it’s all been good natured smack. If he doesn’t, well, he’s just the irritating loudmouth he appears to be. Dude likes to talk about Duck fans not having any class, but it’s becoming pretty evident that he’s like school on Sunday.

For what it’s worth, it’s ridiculous that you and Jake have to essentially make excuses for him. He’s not doing BtD any favors by starting trouble and hiding from the consequences. And remember that because he posts the same kind of tripe on OLive that he does here, the trolls you get are most likely from there, and as we all know that place is a cesspool.

Knowledge

I have never questioned his knowledge of football or his ability to research stats. It’s like Kobe Bryant…I hate that guy, but I can respect and acknowledge that he’s been the best player in the NBA for the past 5 years. That doesn’t mean I have to like him.

Regarding the anti-beaver fans, you are completely right. The warning I got for “making up stories about CV” when I logged in to BtD still has me confused.

I think that's part of the problem...

He’s very knowledgeable, and respect that.

However, he doesn’t give any respect to anyone. In his Penn State post, he mocked Penn State for no reason at all. Yeah, if you read in between all the crap, he was right, but it still a pretty dick thing to do. it would be incredibly easy for him to write knowledgeably without being a jerk.

The problem with reading between the lines

Is that it can be easily lost, or misinterpreted. If he has good ideas he could, you know, state them clearly. Just a thought.
