That is true...
though most of our TD drives were done from big plays…so not sure how much field position makes a difference there.
Stanford hasn’t shown a lot of offensive threat. They are very methodical…and it’s tough to score when you have bad field position in that case.

I was at a game earlier this year…and this little kid was being the biggest bitch on the planet, booing and yelling at the players whenever anything bad happened….I wanted to punch him.

Halftime Thoughts
Masoli looks like he is doing a little better with some of the work this week but he still is getting antsy in the pocket too soon. Our running game isn’t bad but Blount isn’t making good reads and getting tackled. Our receivers, as a whole, are making some good plays even though we’ve had some drops. Defense is being inconsistent. I’m frustrated that we continue to make bad throwing teams look like good ones but we are doing a great job against the run
So far, the game is all about field position. The first team to take control of that aspect and they should win the game. We should see Roper in the second half. Masoli hasn’t made too many mistakes but he hasn’t had a great game. Stanford is not good against the pass and there are plays to be made

Penalties have hurt….
Though our offense hasn’t been too bad. They had 17 points on 8 plays, and sometimes that just happens. the turnover on the kickoff really hurt.

Huge 3rd down to keep that drive after Stanford made it 17-17 going. Without that, I think Stanford can keep their offensive momentum going. Instead, we got field position back, and got our defense a rest.

Roper
The knock on Roper is that he can’t throw it down field. Well Masoli doesn’t either. All his passing yards come on YAC from the receivers. I have been a Masoli supporter for a while now, but I’d like to see what Roper can do. I’d really like to see DT, but I’ve given up on that. I have come to the realization that we burned his redshirt for 1/4 of PT in a blowout.

He’s still good. I personally think Masoli has a hard time seeing the middle of the receiver and getting through progressions, so he just never sees Dickson.

Look at USC. He did great in that game, which was also Quizz’s breakout.

Game Thoughts
Play makers got us the win at the end. We still don’t have an answer for throwing game. Terrance Scott is the MVP of the game in my opinion. That diving catch to keep the final drive alive was the one that kept us in it. We did look bad today. We need to minimize mistakes. If we can do that, we perform well. When we don’t, like the last two games, we look horrible.
A win is a win and I’m really proud of our D in a lot of respects. Arizona is going to be a MAJOR issue because of our pass defense. Masoli did an adequate job and improved some in this game. He gets to keep the job for another week in my eyes

Except...
They said the Sun Bowl selection committee was at the game. So, if we end up tied with another team they could select the other team for the Sun Bowl based on the ugliness of this game. Sun Bowl/Emerald Bowl/Las Vegas Bowl…to ME it doesn’t really matter which of those we go to. If it’s not Rose or Holiday they are all kinda the same to me after that. I’m just saying that ugliness COULD factor into things.

Yup. Not that we’d go to the Sun Bowl though. They have a repeat clause, which is why OSU didn’t go there last year.

Why was the Sun Bowl Committee at the game today then? Is the clause just saying if 2 teams are tied they won’t repeat, or they don’t want repeat in general?

I think they have a clause...
that allowed them to overrule if it’ll be a repeat team. They can take the 4th team if the 3rd team is the repeat.
