Nick Aliotti

The highly skilled, and devilishly handsome man pictured below is Nick Aliotti.396284_medium

Star-divide

This man is a believer. A believer in bending and not breaking! After hours of going through tape with many of my colleagues, we noticed something shocking. In the civil war game, the Ducks got away with what some would consider "breaking" plays. In other words, once or twice, the Ducks had single plays that went for more than average yardage.

He could be more than just a believer. He could be a Beaver believer! Beaver fans everywhere should alert the football coaches that Nick Aliotti is a must have for Oregon State. Just imagine the ass-whoping the Ducks would have received with such a dynamic, and good looking, defensive coordinator calling the plays.

You may be asking yourself several questions right now. Why would we want the architect of arguably the worst defense in the Pac-10? Why would we want a defensive coordinator from Oregon that never receives job offers despite the offensive coordinators leaving every 2 years or so for "bigger" or "better" things? Why would we want a coordinator that blames his players? Let me answer ALL of your questions with the following picture.

Thats nasty.

Maybe we can name Aliotti HC in waiting. That would peak interest from other schools and they can hire his ass away from Eugene. Better yet ‘reassign’ him to special teams head coach and go out find a diamond in the rough like Chip but for defense and finally get our defense to some sort of respectability.

GO DUCKS!!!!

oh I like that second one

but instead of STC can we reassign him to one of MB friends that lives in eugene and has nothing to do with our football program.

Aliotti on special teams

We would give up the most punt return yards and always get burned on fakes because all he would do is go for the block. Ugh.

Seriously though, the thing that makes me most pissed about him still on the team is that Wilcox is doing great at BSU, how awesome would it be to bring him back into the fold.

Why the fuck is this man still employed?

What other top 25 program would keep a guy who continues to underachieve even with 4 star recruits on a yearly basis? It is so upseting to see our defense (this year our D backs) be touted as anything better than mediocre. Because I KNOW it will never pan out as anything more than that.

/Officially signs the FIRE NICK ALIOTTI petition, which i just made up.

I’ve been on this bandwagon for years.

Devil's Advocate

I know I’m going to be going against the grain a bit since everyone loves to hate on Aliotti but can we give they guy at least a little bit of credit? Does our pass defense suck this year? For sure. Has it been established that the issues are most likely scheme-related? Yep. However, the other part of that equation is stopping the run which we have done an EXCELLENT job of. Our flysweep work against Oregon State was great and we really limited their running game, due in no small part to preparation from the coaching staff.

I’m all for beating up on Aliotti but I think we should also give him some credit for the successes he has had this year and the run defense is one of those things

how dare you bring perspective to this thread?

Yep

He does do a good job against the run… but I’m not sure if that’s as much scheme as it is historically very good D-linemen at Oregon.

Our run defense was supposed to be a weakness this year...

But ended up being a strength, due in large part to the linebackers we have (who are not good at coverage, but good against the run), and defensive tackles stepping up.

by jtlight on Dec 4, 2008 7:52 PM PST up reply actions

I believe the weakness idea came from

The lack of depth on our D-tackles. We had two monsters in Linehan and Harris… and not much beneath. Turned out they both stayed relatively healthy and beastly all regular season. Then of course we have Nick Reed and Will Tukuafu.

Our linebackers, like you said, are run stuffers. I’m not sure as to why though… Spencer Paysinger is a converted WR/DB… Jerome Boyd lost weight over the offseason and has the looks of a coverage backer, and then we have the very traditional looking (yet a monster all the same) in Casey Matthews.
