Poll: Who's your Heisman?
Shotgun Spratling over at The Blue Workhorse blog tallied votes from 74 bloggers and posted the 2008 Sports Blog Heisman Trophy Winner today. I was the only ATQ writer to submit a ballot (apparently I don't have much of a life), but all of us are curious to get some perspective from Ducks fans, you know, since the Pac-10 has absolutely no involvement in this year's award whatsoever.
Here's the brief breakdown I submitted as my ballot:
- Tim Tebow, Florida: Yeah, his numbers are down following last year's Heisman campaign. But 28 TDs with only 2 INTs in the SEC and another shot at a title? A no brainer.
- Colt McCoy, Texas: I'm giving him the nod over Bradford for two reasons: He's a dual-threat QB like Tebow, and, um, he beat Bradford head-to-head. That should count for something, right? Apparently not.
- Sam Bradford, Oklahoma: Gaudy numbers on a team that's been getting better and better every week. We'll see what he's made of in the championship game.
What do you think? Vote and post your comments.
The 2008 Heisman Trophy Presentation will air on ESPN tomorrow (Saturday, Dec. 13) at 5:00 p.m. PST.

My vote
Dennis Dixon. Wait you have to be in college to win, even if you got shafted on at least an invite to NYC. Boo that noise.

My heisman vote = Tebow...
In a 3-way photo finish.
But it’s hard to argue that Michael Crabtree isn’t the biggest stud on a college campus this season. I think he and Harrell both should have been invited to NYC.
The ATQer formerly known as Seattle Quacker...oh yeah, I hate the wings.

Voted for McCoy
It’s unreasonable of me, I know, but I’m still a bitter Duck homer after last year’s shafting of the real best player in the nation…

Honestly, any vote for Tebow is is ridiculous
Any vote for Bradford is silly
McCoy has been the best player in college football this year. If he doesn’t win, I have no faith in the Heisman trophy, the BCS, Israel-Palestine conflict, Obama’s “plan”, or anything else relevant in my life today.
I support Takimoto in his effort to support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

I think Tebow is a perfect contender. McCoy has been a stellar stud, sure – But I think Tebow has been the smartest player this year. Sure, others have better completion percentage, McCoy has better rushing stats, and others have a lot more TDs – but Tebow has thrown for two INTs.
I might need to repeat that.
Tebow has thrown for only TWO (2) Interceptions. Two!
It's spelled "S-H-U-C-F-A-D-O-D-N-C-S"

McCoy
I love Tebow and the way he plays. I hate Bradford, he is a Sooner. To me McCoy has done everything for his team. I havent looked at the stats, but Texas seems like they have the worst defense so McCoy has to carry his team more than the other two QB’s. I’m sure someone will get on here and shoot out some stats to say other wise, but from what I have watched McCoy has had to work the hardest to put his team in possition to be at the top. Like I said Tebow is a complete stud who plays the game with such intensity. Like how McCoy is a great passer and leading his team in rushing is pretty impressive.

agreed
McCoy did more with less. Florida is stacked with speed and Oklahoma with talent. I feel like McCoy deserves it more.
Plus I take every opportunity to undermine Oklahoma football…

Why are you so anti-Tebow...
He has been pretty spectacular this year….
As far as McCoy doing more with less…Texas is one of the most talented teams in the nation. Both Florida and Texas have talent flying out of their butts.
I would say one thing that both Tebow and McCoy have over Bradford is that their O-lines weren’t as good. Bradford had so much time, as they had one of the best O-lines in the nation.

They do...
But Tebow also had Percy Harvin… that helps a lot. McCoy was close to all of Texas’ offense.

He didn't against Alabama...
Still was 14/22 for 216 with 3 TDs, with 57 yards rushing. Which was only 76% of his teams yards…in the most important game of the year.

For the whole season...
Texas had 5717 total yards. McCoy accounted for 3445 of those passing, and 576 rushing, which was 70% of his teams total yards.
Oklahoma had over 7300 total yards. Bradford had 61% of that, almost all through passing.
Tebow had only 53% of his teams total yards over the season, as Florida had about 5700 yards of offense, and Tebow accounted for only about 3000 of that.
Despite Tebow’s numbers being less than Bradford, I still think he was better than Stafford. But, there is definitely a very convincing case to be made for McCoy.
I still agree with Paul’s ballot. Bradford was the least deserving in my opinion. He rarely had games put on his shoulders. He had the best offensive line in the country, and had all day to pick teams apart. He’s very good, but I’d Take McCoy or Tebow over him.
