Around SBN: Super Bowl XLVI: Eli Manning And The Meaning Of 'Elite'

You know you are a fan when....

Last Friday I was packing the suitcase for my 2 year old for a trip to my inlaws house for Xmas.  They currently live in Tucson and my wifes youngest sister is a student at U of A as well as playing in the band.  Because of this her father, my father in law, is now a newfound Wildcats fan.  Now my wife could care less about sports or the Pac 10 but when she say me packing his newest Ducks shirt that I got while in Eugene for the Ducks/BSU game this year she made a comment that him wearing that out in AZ in front of my father in law would not be prudent.  I explained to her that since she had no stake in sports affliations and that I did I was going to pack his Ducks shirt and that he was going to wear it while visiting his grandparents.

Cut to a few days ago, we are sitting in his living room watching the Las Vegas Bowl my son rocking his shirt and me quietly smiling whenever BYU did something good(which unfortunately was not often)  My father in law did not mention his grandson's wardrobe and my son had a great time showing his school spirit.

Sidenote- I spent part of gametime in the car and I listened to the game on the radio and the announcers they have are HORRIBLE.  They made the most assanine comments that had no bearing on anything.

a U of A reporter had an introspective sideline report

talking about how roucious the UA students were and how quiet the BYU side was. He said this while BYU was on offense. Well no shit the UA section is going to make alot more noise and BYU is going to be quiet while their offense is on the field. Any idiot knows that. The reporter made it sound like the BYU side did not care about the game and that the UA side was intently following every snap.
No purpose to that report in my opinion.

There's no way your son had a great time wearing yellow

I just REFUSE to believe it. Why look like a banana when you can look like a pumpkin? :-)

I support Takimoto in his effort to support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

team first, conference...so what?

The best scenario to play out would be for Oregon and Arizona to be the only winners
in post season play. What, I’m going to lose sleep over how the rest of football fandom
views the pac 10? I could give a flyin’ fig. So, Oregon goes 10-3, and USC, Cal and osu
all lose games they are favored to win. There’s a downside to this? Just wondering.
And Duckinnc, you gotta be proud, man. That is one cute kid!

National perception does wonders for your rankings the following year. Look at the SEC year in and out. They are perceived as having an amazingly brutal conference and get ranked highly as a result. If the Pac-10 had a few more wins under their belt at the beginning of the year, they might get two BCS teams instead of just USC. Perception means a lot. If people thought the Pac-10 was a tough conference, they might have allowed USC to pull further ahead in the polls with one loss, for example.

If the Pac-10 wins out in their bowl games, it is my contention that this all but erases the issues we had with perception at the beginning of the year this year. For next year, it should allow for more teams in the top 25, potentially with higher rankings. Recruiting benefits go without saying.
