Apology to Masoli
Dear Jeremiah,
I want to congratulate you on your fantastic performance in the Holiday Bowl by offering a sincere apology. I sat through the deluge in Cal and then again the next week against Stanford, and yes; I was one of the boo birds. Between my boos I found time to make jokes that at least the Ducks will have a good point guard capable of crisp bounce passes this season. I remember seeing highlights and wondering where that guy went as the ball skipped across the turf.
The final drive against Stanford began to persuade me that you had "it" when it came to running the Oregon offense. I was still skeptical during the Arizona game and convinced by the end of the Civil War. Over the past couple months, I and the rest of the fan base have watched you become a capable and at times incredible quarterback.
During the Holiday Bowl, when you went down 17-7, the first thing that ran through my mind was "It's okay. We have Masoli." I was shocked at my reaction and it made me realize that what has taken place this year is special. I again offer my apology and rest assured, my lesson is learned. Here's to two more sensational years running the three headed monster.
Sincerely,
Jake

I can honestly say I was onboard after UCLA.

QB's take time and patience
Agreed that most of the Duck Nation owes Masoli an apology. Keep in mind that he was very low on the totem poll coming into the season and, after a series of injuries to multiple QB’s, he was thrust into the starting job. People have to be patient with young QB’s even though Masoli had led City College of SF to a national title, it was going to take him some time to adjust to the speed of the game.
A great win for the Ducks and a great way to wind down Belotti’s career if that’s the path he chooses.

Masoli caught my eye when he faxed his LOI
This was before Costa went down, looking at his raw stats it seemed like on paper he was the best QB we had. He was faster then Roper, More experience then Thomas or Harper, and had a slight advantage on paper with Costa who was a touch slower.
He was very green in the offense and it showed. He played well against Washington and Utah State, then I think they began to feed him more of the playbook and the learning curve was apparent on the field.
With more to digest Masoli slumped a touch in the middle of the season, his lack of experience with Oregon was apparent in USC, and he struggled against UCLA and Stanford when it came to throwing the ball. It wasn’t until the Zona game that he looked really comfortable and it took the Civil War to play well from Kickoff to the final whistle.
Given his sturdy frame, speed, and throwing ability it’s safe to say the job is his until he leaves, I hope we redshirt Thomas next year to maximize his eligibility.

I was on the Masoli train from day one.
Sorry Mr. Roper, but I just didn’t have faith. I booed you from the first snap in game one, and wanted you to go back to working in the supermarket on Sesame Street. Masoli certainly earned his spot from his days in JC, and he certainly deserves to lead the pack in the “QB competition” for 09. As far as I’m concerned he’s set a high bar that everyone else needs to beat if they want his job.

I was just backing you up. I HATE when people boo the team. Boo the refs all day, but there is NOTHING to gain from booing the QB. These are 20 year old kids.

Agreed
I love going to games win or loose, but nothing pisses me off more than hearing half ass fans boo our team. I boo the refs every bad call, but never do I boo the team. Like Marine duck said what good comes of that. Do you think that helps these kids become a better player by dealing with that? This is our team good and bad so deal with it or stay the hell home!

I was one calling for DT
I am with the guy who started this thread, Im sorry also. I loved what I seen from DT and did not want to wait to get him on the field. I got impatient watching pass after pass drop to the ground. Once I could see him run the read option I did get hope. Still his passing game was still a few games away before it started to look good. Last night he looked great. If our recivers would be more consistant at catching the damn ball he would have even looked better. He wasent all that accurate, but most every ball was catchable by a D1 reciver. I am going to sink now into my 8 month depression with no duck football. I will sober up enough for spring ball.

While I think it’s good they stuck with Masoli, I was also in the DT boat. I wasn’t really calling for his head.
Thomas has me excited for his potential. Chris Harper still does too.
We’ve got some amazing weapons going for us.

I'm one of those people who still wants Chris Harper to get looked at at QB.
Just the incredible athleticism is so promising… Thomas and Masoli both have it and the arms, but Harper has just the most explosive player mentality we’ve seen on our team in a long time.

Harper
I think the arm thing is an issue with Harper. I like him in the slot catching some passes in space – maybe some bubble screens or middle screens like an H-back – and also running a Duck version of the fly sweep with a very dangerous possibility of him pulling up to throw.
Masoli takes the snap, hands to Harper on the sweep, Harper running right now pulls up…it’s a throwback to Masoli and he’s got room down the sideline… Have fun defending that one boys.
Get Harper’s athleticism on the field, no doubt.
The ATQer formerly known as Seattle Quacker...oh yeah, I hate the wings.

It's just so appealing at QB... how could he ever be stopped?
But you are right. We need him way more at WR, and we need to get DT and Masoli on the field too.
I feel absolutely balls terrible for Ropert though. Ropert is god!

Masoli
I like Masoli more and more every time I see him play. I know that it is easier to say that after a big bowl win, but it is a true statement. I even think to the point of being disappointed that he went out so early in the BSU game. I wonder what he could have done had he stayed in?
If Masoli keeps improving over the summer, I would like to see him go into next year as the #1. I love all the other guys, but right now I am loving Masoli more.
Time to head out for some trash talking. I live in Boise so it should be a lippy night. Plus I demanded my buddy get a keg of ANY Oregon beer for his party.

I'm in.
One with the blackout jersey would look great. The white jerseys are sometimes a little hard to see. I was even a little hesitant to use Chung wearing a yellow one this year. If I could get the right shot of one of Blounts many leaps this year…that might make a good one too. I just plain love Oregon football.

His son is a pretty touted dual threat QB and he’s strongly considering Oregon. That’s right, we could have the son of Joe Montana vs the son of John Elway in a Pac 10 battle soon.

This:
After 13 games, the Ducks had set school records for points and yards per game, exceeding the averages from the historic 1998 season, while also surpassing last year’s rushing record. At midseason, however, boos were common in Autzen Stadium, in response to the play of Masoli, the decision to leave him in and the plays being called for him. The lack of faith clearly irks Bellotti, still.
"We practice and work with these men every single day," Bellotti said. "To think we may not see the big picture or know what we’re doing, I have to laugh at that, in all honesty."
