Lets talk uniforms
Hey everyone. I was just wanting to get a feel for how Duck fans really feel about the uniforms. I've been thinking about it recently and I can't help but wonder if it's worth it considering all the crap we take from the rest of the nation about them.
I'm not insinuating that we have the power to change them if we want, I just don't really know where everyone comes out on this topic. All I ever hear from the local and national media is how lame we are because of them.
Anyone want to share their thoughts???
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or the Addicted To Quack Moderators. FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable Oregon fans.

Recruits seem to like them...
That’s how Blount got interested.
And as long as that continues, I could care less what we wear.

And people are always going to find something...
We could go out there on Saturdays in ragged torn practice uni’s from 30 years ago and someone is going to say…. Look at the balls they have coming out in those uniforms. They obvioulsy don’t resepct their opponent wearing old shit like that.
People who don’t like OU are always going to find something to say no matter what uniform colors or logos we are wearing.

The only reason all the so-called purists are up in arms is because they can't have what we have
I think from 2003-2004, we had honestly ugly uniforms. But now I think what we strut out with is some very nice and slick looking jerseys. The white, the font, the black outline to the green font, it all looks really futuristic.
All these naysayers are just naggers that would rather see these old boring-ass Penn State uniforms.
Off of Jared’s point, it’s bringing in recruits. Must continue it. Being a ducks blog, I have no fear to say, (though with trace amounts of guilt and being shallowly juvenile), I think nice uniforms, or something that I think I’d look good in, WOULD be a factor in my decision as to where I’d go in college football.

Creating tradition
In order to have national significance we need to establish an identity. Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma, they all have established national identities based on tradition and winning. Our program has only been on the map as a legitimate contender for just over a decade and the uniforms (be it good or bad) gets the country talking about us. If it gets us recruits and then gets us wins I will take all I can.
As for personally liking the uniforms, I could do without the 2-tone shoulder/midsection. The whites are my favorites.

Better People Talking Bad About Our Uniforms . . .
. . . Then not at all. Plus whenever they show highlights, people know pretty quick that it’s an Oregon highlight, that can’t be bad.
On a personal stand point, I love the uniforms, and for some reason, the more outlandish the more I like the Unis. The all yellow are my favorite.
I have my own theory that eye catching uniforms (like the yellow ones) unconsciously attract attention forcing opposing quarterbacks to use more of their working memory to focus on their own receivers than usual. This leads to more mistakes by the opposing QB. My theory makes more sense at Witt’s after a bucket of beer.

Recruits love them...
The players love them…
Announcers love to talk about them…
Fans of Penn State uniforms (Gawd) love to hate them…
I love it!
I’d rather see our grellow helmets get replaced with a brighter, less chartreuse yellow color though.
One of my favorite things about the uniforms is that I can see a picture and know exactly what game they were playing.
I’m excited to see what the rumored black helmet will look like.
My favorites so far are the all-whites, and the Green Helmet, Black Jersey, Yellow Pants (‘07 Arizona St.).

Black out
The only way top get the whole stadium to be black is to get involved with the bookstore and the athletic department because we all know that yellow is supposed to be worn at the game but how often does this happen? Not very especially with all the elderly alumni who come to the game. I think the blackout will be a great idea but we gotta get the word out now and try to get the athletic department and the bookstore involved.

Good to hear all of this
I have just never known how everyone in Duck-land feels about them. Where I live in Portland, for some reason all of my good friends are beaver fans. Needless to say I don’t always get to discuss Duck related issues intelligently with others. I was beginning to wonder how I felt about them!
Hell yes I loved the all white, and the ASU get-up too. Great point about how when you see a highlight you know immediately which game it was.
I think a lot of my mixed emotions about them were due to Canzano making the argument that Oregon players aren’t tough because they only love the uni’s. And that beaver players are tougher because they don’t care about shallow superficial stuff like that! Man that is the lamest stretch of a comment I think I’ve heard in a long time.
(this is probably where the beaver trolls will jump in)
Thanks for all the comments.

I hope it is for the Husky Game. I am flying from NY for the weekend w/my girlfriend just to show her a Duck Game. I actually moved away after the 01-02 season so I haven’t even seen a game at the new stadium yet.
As for the Jerseys, I don’t really care. A jersey is a jersey. As long as they are different from whatever team we are playing against, then it’s fine with me. I’m waiting for a Gold Jersey to match those Gold Helmets.

HA
Well after cramming Oregon Football & Basketball down the throats of every single person i have known out here, (and not always providing the best back up, ie. bringing my friends to the UO vs Cinncinnati BBall game in New Jersey (lost 52-77) and then the UO vs Michigan NIT Game the next year at Madison Square Garden (lost 53 – 78) side note, Seeing the Ducks play on a Neutral court on the other side of the country has it’s benefits. Not many fans means leaving my seats and moving courtside behind the ducks bench, watching them play in the garden, which wasn’t all that bad)
So I figured it was about time to bring someone close to me that had experience all the ups and downs we’ve experienced as duck fans the past 5 years to Autzen, and let her see where i’m coming from, and she obviously lucked out and gets a free trip to eugene and a duck game. Plus she’s a Patriots fan, and thats just not right…

I’m a Cal fan but I occasionally lurk this blog. Now with that out of the way:
Black out? Are you trying to copy our Gold Out?! :p
In any case why Black Out? I didn’t know Black was your color… I thought it was green and yellow. Where did Black come from? Though I admit it will look bad ass.
As for your unis I like some of them and hate the others, but I do love your tradition of gimmicky uniforms. Seriously it’s cool so please don’t get rid of it.

That's what I was saying
It’s been done before.
But a black out comes from a few things.
Firstly, Reser attempts to do it and fails. So that’s one.
Secondly, we’re coming out with a black uni and helmet this year, we’d like to synchronize those.
Thirdly, we had a yellow-out once. And that was bad ass too, but I think the magnitudes of the colors black and white are supreme for -outs. We’re just trying black this year.
And thanks for the encouraging words about the uniforms. Don’t hear much of that these days.

Black out for fans....
Is a very stupid idea. Why would we want to copy an idea that has been before, and that’s not even our traditional colors.
If anything, fans should wear green, but the one problem with Duck fans, is they can’t decide on a color.
And if your first reason for a black out is to show up the Beavers…well, that’s just sad.

Just cant win.
several years ago before Oregon changed their logo from the UO on the helmets to just the O and they had a more “tradional style jersey” with a bland looking yellow offset by a normal looking green color, the ducks jersey’s were rated the ugliest in college football. Now almost 10 years later, they still get the title. Lets be real here they are just working with what they got. Every other school would do the same thing if Nike was pumping millions of dollars into thier school. The fact is nike was created at U of O and it doesn’t look like the dontations are going to let up. So why not try something differen’t. I bet the first football team that traded in thier leather helmets in exchange for plastic ones looked pretty ridiculus for thier day too.
The fact is I love the jersey’s so does every one else. If some one says they don’t they are just jealous.
One of my friends from Boise, ID thought our jersey’s were gawdy. To which I replied “dude you got a blue field”.
We aren’t the only school trying to get recognized on the national scale. We just found soomething that stands out and everyone knows us for. The jersey are tight. Just ahead of thier time.
Sample of the different options for the black helmet.

But I believe 2000ish, we changed our our uniforms.
Old Home Uniforms
Old Visiting Uniforms
Then they changed it to two shades of green, one so dark a lot of times it looked black.
Here is the away uniforms:
That only lasted a few years, since (Bowl game of ‘05) 2006, we’ve had:
And since the beginning of the year, there is a rumored black helmet they have added to the salvo of awesomeness.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, the yellow helmet in that last picture isn’t correct, and instead we are given:

Oregon wasn't the first school to wear bright colors
I have no problem with supporting Oregon, but I don’t like homers. Homers like to make outlandish comments about their teams that have little basis in fact (see above).
Oregon is constantly in the front of uniform design due to its relationship with Nike. Other uniforms follow that progression. It has nothing to do with copying U of O, but with their relationship with Nike. Only a homer would think it has anything to do with copying Oregon.
I also noticed in your recent activity that you posted on Building the Dam. That post has since been deleted. If you are going to frequent this board, do not troll that blog.

I WANNA PLAY DRESS-UP TOO!
man,i love everything about oregon’s uniform enfatuation! i’d be happy if we never saw the same uniform combo twice in the same season. i hope that the rumors about a black out with new black helmets for the husky game are true. you’ve got to think that recruits just love that kind of stuff. my personal favorite combos thus far are the all white storm trooper look and the all yellow jersey/pants/helmet outfit.
if it were up to me, i’d keep coming up with new uniforms and maybe even have a throwback uniform game for homecoming or something. it’s great that the players got to be so involved in designing what they get to wear and obviously other schools took notice, just look how many other schools have redesigned there uni’s or come out with alternates in the last couple years.
so if anybody from nike is reading this i’d first of all just like to say thankyou and second of all make a suggestion… METALLIC CHROME HELMETS WIH GREEN ‘O’s to match the chrome trim on the new jerseys! that would look freakin awesome.

Chrome Trim?
Are you talking about the reinforcement and reflective material? in the shoulders and knees?
I’m not very enthusiastic over the idea of metallic chrome helmets myself. Black helmets are even a bit of a stretch. I mean – I think they sound cool, but black isn’t really an Oregon team color. Metallic chrome helmets – even more so. About the only thing I can see them doing from here are different color matching for the jerseys. (Black shoulders, yellow body; yellow shoulders, green body).
Not that I am saying that is a good idea – in fact, the addition of a black helmet is just about all they need now.
