newest rival
I was searching you tube one day when i came along a video of the Arizona game. Every time a see the arizona fans rush on to the field it makes me wonder what if we dixon wouldnt have gone down would we be the national champs!!!! I also couldnt belive how bad the arizona fans were they were cheering when dixon was hurt..... They also were taunting him...... I hope we kill the Wildcats next year!!!!! let me remind you of what happend.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9PtvKMDoBY
p.s. i think there a high chance we could 6-0 at home this year
uw-just stop jake locker
utah st.- should be a give me
Boise st.-are 1st real test at home
UCLA- dont think we should have to worry to much last year player well be wanting to get them back after last years embarrasing lose.
Stanford- enough said but dont sleep on them cuz look what happend to usc.
Arizona- another revenge game. Just show the players the youtube video and they will be fired up
zona has great b-ball fans but no class when it comes to football...... i guess when you dont win you cheer for players on the other team to get hurt.
GO DUCKS!!!!!!!

Yep
Since ‘05 I’ve had no respect for UA “football” (term used loosely) fans. They did the same when Kellen went down.
Every year they get their one win and get a big head about their 4-7 program. So tired of hearing their “BEAR DOWN” bullshit.
I don’t think it’s a rivalry, just a program that we don’t wanna put up with. I think we have 3 rivalries in our football program.
In order of animosity:
1. Fuskies
2. Beavs
3. Sooners
Does anyone disagree?

I don't disagree at all!
I think it will enrage those beavers that you have them at number two on your list but that’s where they belong.
I would love to play the Sooners again. I think it’s awsome that a program loke OU HATES Oregon!
As far as that UA game last year, I remember having a dream the night before where Dixon got hurt and he was out of the game while they were showing a Dixon for Heisman commercial. Weird huh?

I think it would piss off Beaver fans to see this,
while at the same time surprising Fuskies. Gotta say that Oklahoma’s a close 3rd to the Beavs. The only reason I say so is that the Oklahoma rivalry has 10 ties the animosity, but 1/118th of the tradition and history.

I can't agree with a lot of the comments here...
I was upset at Arizona fans too, but I let it go. From their perspective, regardless of injuries, they just beat #2 in the nation. That’s a big win. Seeking revenge, whatever. I just want a win, and I’m not seeking any additional meaning to the win.
A true sportsmanship rivalry is due to the competitiveness of the programs, not smugness of the fans.
Oklahoma is a good program, but we only had a spurt of playtime, with the only (slim) chance of the rivalry to live on is the Holiday Bowl. We had a couple good games against them, and we squeaked out a win in a controversial manner. We kicked dirt at each other, but now we’ve gone our separate ways.
Last year, I really enjoyed the discussions we had with the Cal fans here. I would hope they could feel welcomed in the ATQ side in the future for more discussion. The only extent of the rivalry is with the conference competition. Maybe their fans are smug or arrogant, but I haven’t had any problems. And by that same logic, I think Ohio State should be our rival.
The only rivalries I see exist are:
1. Washington
2. Oregon State

Cal fans
It sounds like DuckinDC maybe had a bad run-in with Cal fans. I talked to a few last year at the game and they seemed fine. The only fans I have a problem with are the wackey beaver fans. But that’s probably because they walk amung us every day so we have to listen to them all the time.
They UW fans get on my nerves when they speak up but they just have had no reason to say anything for so long. Honestly the UW rivalry seems to have been dormant for a while.(in football) I think this might be the year that it flares up again!

Agreed, only 2
It’s UW by a long shot and then the Beavs. I don’t think I’m that much older than most guys on here (well maybe, mid-30’s) but OSU was like the little brother/cousin that tries so hard but just sucks. But both of you hate the older guy down the street that steals your girlfriends and is a complete asshole. That’s UW. UW used to steal the best Oregon talent, and of course since early 2000’s they’re not what the used to be. But there’s a reason at Autzen that they show the Kenny Wheaton pick for a TD against UW last, that was the turning point. The Ducks could now take the older guy down the street.
So suck it fuskies.

other: wsu and Fresno st.

It doesn't depend on the person.
I despite nearly every angle of Ohio State. That doesn’t make them a rival.
It isn’t personal preference that makes a rival, it’s definition and my Princeton dictionary defines “Rival” as “To be equal in quality or ability”.
You’re just holding grudges, some of which I think are weird.
1. OSU – I think this is an easy call as a rival. I personally don’t care much over this “rivalry”.
2. UW – This rivalry has been dormant for a while – but to say they are our rival ever since “The Pick” is to completely misunderstand the rivalry. We didn’t pick them off and suddenly we had a rivalry – that play has meaning because of the rivalry.
3. Cal – That is absurd to call them a rival because Tedford is coaching there. Why isn’t Kentucky on your list too? I can’t blame Tedford for taking on a head coach position. Maybe this will turn into a Rivalry, but I’m not so quick to throw on that label for them. I want to see them win.
4. Arizona – Again, bringing up the definition, they are a rivalry to our Scout team, because that’s what they essentially played. in ‘07. Two, three, four, or five years of competition won’t equate to a rivalry. Rivalries don’t jump out of thin air or out of a couple fluke games.
WSU? WSU is so far from being a rival… almost as far as Arizona.
Fresno St.? We most likely won’t be seeing a Fresno State team any time soon. Why Fresno?
Rivalries aren’t personal choices. Just admit you don’t like a team, but don’t slap on the “Rival” label, because that implies the entire program and the fan base.

you basically think we have 2 rivals uw and osu. IT depends on the person. lets say you live in L.A. you most likely dont care about osu and uw you most likely care about ucla and usc cuz there are more of those school fans down there so you care more about those games. but yeah schools rivals is uw and osu.
p.s. i was just ranking my rivals….....

Location Location Location!
See, you’re still wrong. It doesn’t depend on the person. OSU and Washington aren’t MY rivals.
If I live in LA, and I am a USC fan, then why on earth do I care about Notre Dame? They are all the way in South Bend, Indiana? It started because of some bickering between the two coaches, and grew into a rivalry because of the long competitiveness of the two schools. It isn’t because people in SoCal purposelessly hate Jesuit Engineers.
I don’t think we have two rivals. I know we only have two rivals. I’m sure sometime before we play Washington, we’ll get a great history of the rivalry.
I know you were ranking your rivals, but I think you are trivializing the term “rival” by ranking teams you don’t like.
What’s the difference between a competitor, a rival and a bitter rival?
If I own a company, and I am bidding on a project to make 50 widgets, I am competing against other companies that are also bidding. They are the competition. This is every team in the Pac-10.
A company with a similar profile, and capacity as my own would be my rival. This would be Oregon State.
A company with a similar profile that would undercut their bid, even at a loss of their own, just so that I wouldn’t get a project., that is a bitter rival. This would be Washington.
It isn’t a “I think this” or “my rivals”. This is a historical account with a provable history. Not just some fan bickering.

Just want to comment here, I agree with your thread which is basically, Why worry about rivals – we have nine in our league and last year proved that. Oregon beat Michigan in the Big House a noteworthy day for any program. I saw Notre Dame #12 pound #3 Michigan there. Pissing about rivalries is pointless.
A word for Mr JShufelt – Notre Dame is a Holy Cross school, not a Jesuit school – I know, I went to Jesuit in Portland and have lots of family at Notre Dame.
There is a blog on this site why college is better than pro, and I agree – why? Because Oregon is better than Notre Dame and I get to rub it in my family’s face after all these years…

Arizona is not a rivalry
Just because they beat a passionless team in ‘06 and an injured team in ‘07, and their coach is an arrogant prick, that does not make them a rival. Arizona is nothing other than a bad football program.
Rivalries require some kind of history. The only two rivalries that exist for UO are OSU and UW.
OSU is like your little brother. You want to kick their ass, but you root for them if they’re playing the guy from out of town. UW is that prick down the street that you just hate. They could be fighting the Red Army and you’d still root for them to get their ass kicked.
Everyone else in the Pac-10 is just a conference game. No more, no less.
And to the guy who mentioned Oklahoma, you have to have more than a handful of games to make a rivalry. Just because there was a controversial game and their fans are whiny little bitches doesn’t make it so.

it is no question for me
1) UW
2) OSU
I lived in the Puget Sound region in the early 90’s. The people in that area were so smug and arrogant toward UO and Oregon ( as a state in general ). I remember how the seattle press was always saying “there is no rivalry” with Oregon, “Our rivalry is WSU”. Then one sentence later they would express outrage at how UO had better facilitis than them. Before moving to Puget Sound I had no particular animosity to the region in general (except the fuskies). But its funny how they are always trying to pump themselves up in comparison to Portland and Oregon in general, this is why I don’t like any thing Seattle: the Mariners, seaskwacks, fuskies etc. Although I think they are getting a raw deal for the sonics. And for this business about the seattle franchises as Portland’s teams too, i say screw that. Maybe soon we’ll be able to say hey root for the blazer’s they’re the “Northwest team,” some how I doubt they will be happy with that.
As for the beavers, much to my brother’s chagrine (a die hard beavers fan and a rubber like the rest of them) I root for them as long as they aren’t playng the Ducks.
As for Oklahoma, I’ve always had a certain amount of chagrine for them as I do for say Notre Dame, or Ohio State. But now I really don’t like them because it turns out their fans are a bunch of sorry ass whiners, I recently ran into one here in Anchorage alaska and he started going off an me because I was wearing my Ducks shirt. Isn’t it funny how we all acknowledge the poor calls at the end of the game, yet they absolutely will not even recognize the fact that the previous 55 minutes of the game were riddled with bad calls that wen t in their favor? But I digress, my dislike for them doesn’t lift them to rivalry status antmore than my dislike for USC, or the Lakers.

I have no clue what Wazzu fans have to talk about. What is there in their sorry ass town of Palouse? And for the huskies, Portland? Having been to both places I can attest that Eugene is much better. And the Bay Area rules over any location in the state of Washington.

My Independance Day
Yesterday, I drove from Gresham (East-side Portland) down to Lincoln City to meet with one of my brothers down there. We were going to meet up at Devil’s lake and just go fishing (aka drinking beer while drowning worms).
I wish I had a sharpie or something with me, because on the other side of the boat ramp there was Dennis Dixon, Jaison Williams, Garren Strong, and a couple others I couldn’t identify, but I think one was – Drew Davis. They were all out jet skiing (And crashing quite often) and having a great time.
I’m glad I had my Oregon shirt, jacket, and sticker on my car. But take my advice – You never know who you’ll see – always have a sharpie or other felt pen marker handy.

Yah. I didn't bug them...
I actually ended up talking to the couple that they were staying at a little bit more, partially because I didn’t want to bug them, partially because they were often out on the lake. It was actually the guy they were staying at that suggested I get a felt pen marker- he said that “Dennis was real nice and welcoming for autographs and stuff”.
I just said hi, and shook their hands. They were soft spoken, but courteous.
We spent the entire day at opposite ends of the boat ramp, as I caught the same guppy twice, and some trout stole my bait. They kept flying off the jet ski.
