Reliving the Season: Arizona and UCLA

I'm sorry, these games have been permanently stricken from my memory.  You don' t really want to read these, and I don't really want to write them.

Long live Dennis Dixon.

GO DUCKS!!!

Pac 8?

When did Arizona and UCLA join the Pac 8?

Vegas Duck

This is the beginnings of the “Pac-8” – Oregon is not mentioned….
AAWU
Following a “pay-for-play” scandal at several PCC institutions (specifically Cal, USC, UCLA and Washington), the PCC disbanded in 1959. When Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and Washington started talking about forming a new conference, retired Admiral Thomas J. Hamilton interceded and suggested the schools consider creating a “power conference”. Nicknamed the “Airplane Conference”, the five PCC schools would’ve played with other big schools including Army, Navy, Air Force, Notre Dame, Penn, Penn State, Duke, and Georgia Tech among others. The effort fell through when a member of the Pentagon vetoed the idea and the service academies backed out.[3]

On July 1, 1959 the Athletic Association of Western Universities was formed, with Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and Washington as charter members. The conference also was popularly known as the Big Five from 1960-19624 Washington State University joined in 1962. The conference was then known as the Big Six.

Pacific-8
The University of Oregon and Oregon State University joined
in 1964. Idaho was not invited to join the AAWU and played
as an independent until the formation of the Big Sky
Conference in 1963.
In 1968, the AAWU renamed itself the Pacific-8 Conference,
or Pac-8 for short.

Pacific-10
In 1978, the conference added WAC powers Arizona and
Arizona State, creating the Pacific-10 conference or Pac-10
in its current form.

In 1968, the AAWU renamed itself the Pacific-8 Conference, or Pac-8 for short.

I remeber driving to Eugene and driving by the Cobug Inn and seeing “Go Ducks” ....

just have to say...

Not that I acknowledge that we played Arizona and UCLA last year or that they are in fact members of our conference =] but Arizona does seem to be on our schedule this year and I just have to say that our Ducks BETTER BEAT THOSE ARROGANTLY HORRENDOUS WILDCATS TO A FRIGGIN PULP. It’s payback time!

GO DUCKS!

It's at home

The Arizona game is possibly the biggest conference game at home this year. Let’s hope the students and other fans have a much better showing than the last time they came to Eugene.

It's unfortunate that could be the biggest game...

Not the best home lineup ever.

Believe me

I knew this is what I would be writing when I started this series. No way in hell I was actually going to think about these games.

A good writer doesn't give away where he's going next

But, obviously, it was a great idea, and you did say that we shouldn’t bother doing the next few. Not trying to step on your toes or discredit you in any way.

Need to watch the name-calling though, please.

Going past the recap of last year, SI has posted a photo as part of
their highlights of last year…a pic of JStew really highlights what the rest of the team was really all about…here is the link..

http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/gallery/featured/GAL1142065/19/37/index.htm

Defeating Michigan at the Big House stands as a pivotal point in college football history.

Michigan changed their ways because of that loss….

No one had delivered a beatdown at the Big House like Oregon had.

I saw #11 Notre Dame defeat #3 Michigan 11 to 3 in 1993 in Ann Arbor.

Living in Vegas, it was great to see the Ducks featured instead of the Tro-janes…on TV

A thought on Todd Doxley: A young man with a bright and promising future lost his life after a jump off a bridge. Having jumped off that bridge myself, younger in years, but knowledgeable of Oregon rivers, I can’t say what you should or should not do.

Having jumped off that bridge however wouldn’t entice me to play secondary for any PAC-10 team….my thoughts go out to his family.

Thanks to those who run this blog…it is great to keep up with the Ducks.
