New Student Ticket System
Well, the first round of online availability only Student Tickets are out. So far 3 out of 9 people I have talked to did not get tickets; only one of them admitted to logging on late (and by late I mean 30 minutes after first availability).
I have mixed feelings on this issue. The hours, upon hours, upon hours of my undergrad spent waiting in line make me feel that it is a little cheap that people can just instantly log on to a computer and have a ticket, but as a law student, there is absolutely no way that I could spend the necessary time in line to get a ticket anymore.
I think the new system will be good in the long run, but we'll see. The true test will be how many unclaimed tickets there are for W.
The current rule is that if you miss two games that you get a ticket for, you are not allowed a ticket for the next game. I think this may be a bit lenient; why not penalize missing one game that you had a ticket for, with a chance to appeal?
No clue what I'm talking about? Heres the rules:

I'm still deciding what I think about it
On one hand, it is cool that I can get a ticket just by logging on and clicking a few buttons. Then again, if you aren’t fast enough (like, within the first five minutes), they’re all gone. And I guess it holds less satisfaction then waiting in line for it like in past years. But it certainly makes it easier for the people who didn’t have the time (or patience) for it before.

And it doesn’t punish those who have an affliction for going to class, and other nerdy tuff like that. I always thought that was the one bastardization of the whole system. I think that the department has finally got sick of the inefficiency of the system, And decided to make it real easy on them (the dept.). I am just not sure that you’re going to see the same kind of spirited fans. The student section at Autzen has been feared in the past; I am afraid that you’re going to see a proliferation in ho-hum apathetic fans, who haven’t made any real investment in the ticket procuring process.

This system has some major flaws
Although it is more convenient, some things about it just dont seem fair. I really think you should be able to transfer your ticket to another student’s ID card if for some reason you cannot attend the game. As of now, you can only return your ticket to the ticket office, and only on or before Wednesday of game week. So If I find I have to work on Saturday, but it is too late to return my ticket, I get penalized. And, it was nice when you could ask around to other students if anyone had a ticket they weren’t gonna use (or craigslist), or give your buddies a ticket if you weren’t gonna use it. Beyond that, the system seems alright; though I too, having spent nights and hours in line at Autzen, feel there is something inherently off about the all-electronic system. And I hope you are wrong about the ho-hum fans.

First come first serve

What you see as a downside, I tend to particularly like. I think that that this eliminates the scalping factor, and it makes it possible to procure a ticket if you don’t have a current ticket connection (we all know of one of those guys).
The only problem I can see is that the motivation to actually return your ticket seems low at best. I can’t imagine someone dumb enough to get a ticket that they wont use, having the sort of decency to return said ticket to the office if there is virtually no penalty. There needs to be a more direct reinforcement, whether positive or negative.

i like the scalping factor.
If not for that, I would have missed some great games that I didn’t originally have tickets to.
