Oregon got a lot of love from Kirk Herbstreit in his column today, mainly in the defense, inlcuding:

- Byrd and Thurmond among the top 5 cornerbacks.

- Chung among the top 5 safeties.

- Jemere Holland listed under "Household names by September's End"

-Nick Reed listed under "Players who don't get enough respect"

- Chip Kelly as #2 playcaller.

- Student section listed at #5 in the country.

All in all, a pretty good showing.

For an obvious Ohio State homer, he didn’t do too bad with his picks. Arizona as a sleeper pick to win the Pac-10? For some reason I just can’t see it. I can see a few upsets but I just don’t see them beating USC, Cal or Arizona St. let alone Oregon at Autzen. I will give them this though. They have all the tough games at home minus Oregon but their out of conference schedule rivals Ohio State as being biggest chump schedule. They might even start off 6-0 but the slide will be fast from there

Yah. He's a slight homer...

But he’s also realistic too. I was watching gameday Saturday, and he didn’t even pick Ohio St. to even make it to the national championship game.

Arizona as a sleeper… They should be able to perform better than they have in a while. They have a very strong offense. VERY strong. Still, it is a pretty big stretch.

Best Student Sections

5. Oregon — It looks like “GameDay” answered my call last year as we visited Eugene twice. And my memories were substantiated and then some. The place is louder and nastier than I remember it. Good luck winning there.

he only ranked the Student Section

And while the stadium is loud, I wouldn’t rank our student section that high. While they have improved in recent years, just a couple years ago, we were railing on them for leaving early in big games, etc.

The student section is not what’s loudest, it’s everyone else. I remember during the Cal game three years ago how many seats were empty after halftime in the student section…
