Open Thread: Ducks vs. Fuskies
Washington Huskies at Oregon Ducks, Aug 30, 2008 7:00 PM PDT
Autzen Stadium, Eugene, Oregon
7:00 PT, FSN National
No better way to start the season than a win against the Fuskies. I'll be at the game (for maybe the only time this season), but for those of you watching at home, this is the place for discussion of the game, and the day in college football.
Let's go Roper!
GO DUCKS!!!

I'll be at the game
Tomorrow morning I might entertain a recap as it were from an eyewitness. There is a lot of stuff you don’t see on TV.
Your friendly neighborhood placekicker.
Also, look for me
I get on TV at the game almost every game, I have seats right where the media camps. I’ll be in a white Stewie jersey with a green undershirt. I’ll also be dashingly handsome and standing next to a very behemoth-like man with a hat on.
Your friendly neighborhood placekicker.
Calm
I need to calm down. I’m so fired up right now. If I don’t calm down I’m going to be emotionally spent before the game even starts!

I'll be there, too!
Section 23! GO DUCKS!
In the next 90 minutes, I'm going to show you how all of your problems can be solved by my penis.
#17 Virginia Tech lost
Never too early to start counting the upsets in the Top 20 and calculating how Oregon will be affected…
USC-Virginia and Utah-Michigan are about to kick off…
Only 6.5 hours until OREGON gets it on!
Game doesn't start until 4 am here...
…on the other side of the pond, but I will be up listening to Jerry Allen via the O-Zone and hoping that a combination of opening day adrenaline and chocolate ice cream can keep me awake for the length of the game
I knew Michigan would struggle today
They’re breaking in the new system and all.
Still, I don’t know if they were having trouble defending the spread last year or whether they were having trouble defending last year.
I mean, they’re being taken apart by ANDY FREAKING LUDWIG right now. I don’t like Michigan, but that’s just not right.
They've gone to plaid!
This would be the second time a Ludwig-coordinated offense beat Michigan...
Your friendly neighborhood placekicker.
good point.
I guess he has their number…
this doesn’t bode well for my jersey picks though.
They've gone to plaid!
oh my god...
I’m glad we won’t see this kind of difficulty on our handoffs today. we had better not, anyway. still very hopeful for the Loper’s potential.
They've gone to plaid!
Now I'm embarrassed
that i actually picked Michigan over the Utes. Ugh. What was i thinking?!
michigan...
should have had the defense to stop them. They played bad football today
They've gone to plaid!
I hate FSN announcers...
Oh no…
Petros Papadakis, I might have to rip my ears off, or hit the bottle of knappogue castle early…
A little Irish Whiskey might make him sound smart.
Go Duckies!
use the radio
I just hit the mute button when I saw him on the tv. I’ll take Jerry Allen over him any day… I’ve never heard anyone talk through his nose more.
They've gone to plaid!
That doesn’t work with the 5 second TV delay

I used to live next to the stadium...
I knew before the play started every time we scored, because I could hear the fog horn when it happened. and besides, it’s still much better than listening to Papadakis.
They've gone to plaid!
Good call...
But I’ll still have to see his mug every once in a while.
I’m really just looking for an excuse to open the bottle… it’s a single malt.
Go Duckies!
Offense takes the field . . .
Have a good opening drive, Roper.

better to get the jitters out now...
the offense has looked pretty good so far, except for those errors. it’s early season-stuff.

is that the d?
or is it the Husky receiving corp with a grand total of 1 career reception?
I’m with you though. I like to believe it’s the d.
They've gone to plaid!
From a rushing standpoint...
These huskies are afraid of the ball or something. The probably would make some of the greatest soccer goalies though.
Go Duckies!
I can't see anything...
But UW seems like they have a bad case of team jitters
Jason Williams outrunning UW defenders...
To throw a block! Love the hustle
Jerry Sloan is a complete and total smeg head.
Wow...
Jerry Allen sounded way too surprised when he said “Chip Kelly called it right”
Terrence Scott
just ran a track meet on that TD reception.

that may have been the coolest sack I've ever seen.

doesn’t look like Evenson has improved his accuracy.

Aw...
There goes the shutout.
That’s what happens when you let them catch two passes in a row.
Go Duckies!
Looking forward to WT3 returning kicks
He could be explosive
now we get to see
how roper reacts to his first pick.
They've gone to plaid!
Aw, Justin...
Don’t worry about it, get ’em next time
and that is why
we recruited Locker…
I’m still sad he went to the dark side.
They've gone to plaid!
I'm tellin ya...
go to radio. I’m watching FSN off of Dish network, and it syncs just fine with 95.5.
They've gone to plaid!
That's the best sales pitch for Dish network.
I have the radio going too… but it just doesn’t work with the video, so I have it at a low volume.
Go Duckies!
He's probably ready for it...
We’ve been hearing all week how they’re going to be using 2 or 3 QB’s
by inroywetrust on Aug 30, 2008 8:20 PM PDT up reply actions
Oregon needs to mix it up right now anyway.
I expect a trick play to end the half
I’d like to see one of those plays that starts out like an option and ends up being a reverse going the other way, maybe run it with Holland?
by inroywetrust on Aug 30, 2008 8:23 PM PDT up reply actions
Thank God...
That grounding call is big. They have all the momentum. Let’s just get to halftime and see what we can do to start the 3rd
Enough of the Masoli experiment.
okay, i understand you might want to get jeremiah a little experience but i have no idea what bellotti means by justin being “shakin up”. besides that horrible interception he looked okay. so what happens now boys and girls? you think we see some C-Harper in the next half?
"Shaken Up"
It could be a little injury tweak, not a mental thing

Bellotti just said he may not play the second half
by inroywetrust on Aug 30, 2008 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions
I say that setle down
take Masoli and rely on the run, use JJ and Blount. Ware their D down and give ours a rest.
GO DUCKS!!!!
agree.
I saw way too little Blount in the first half. It’s not like they have a deep D line. their players should be exhausted if we keep running at them.
They've gone to plaid!
I expect a lot more Blount...
Let JJ go east to west, get the middle of the D tired running back and forth, than smash them up in the middle with Blount.
Go Duckies!
Time of possession...
way too little running the ball on our part. i felt like i was watching a game with just our D vs their O. we need to protect the ball and start grinding this thing out on the ground. it may not be pretty and it may not be a blowout but it will be a safe way to win an in conferance rivalry game.
Amen
Let JJ, Blount , and Crenshaw break down Washington
that sounds like a plan
i’ll give coach bellotti a call and let him know!

Nice cut JJ
That’s what i love to see!!
written by the Blazer Thoughts artist formely known as "Scott R"
How do you miss that Scott??
holy bejesus. terrible. Washington can’t beat us, they can only hope we beat ourselves. With non-catches like that it’s very possible.
written by the Blazer Thoughts artist formely known as "Scott R"
Our QB's aren't good enough...
…to have to deal with drop issues. Dixon bailed out our WR’s time after time last year. That won’t happen this year
i would have fair caught it.
that’s a pretty impressive return right there. definetely managed to make something outta nothin.
Nice runback Byrd
too bad he got tackled by another green jersey!
written by the Blazer Thoughts artist formely known as "Scott R"
about time
the huskies shot themselves in the foot.
HARPER!

Still no catches for Dickson, yeah?
He needs to make more of an impact
there we go
let’s get this offense clicking.

The draw play…one of my favorites….good show
and JJ with another 6….
Go Ducks!!! Huck the Fuskies!!!

the margin's back to 11
would be 14 if Evensen were more accurate. I have a feeling this is going to hurt us later this year. there is a reason Evensen wasn’t the guy for field goals last year.
They've gone to plaid!
a nice sustained drive
That’s what we needed for our confidence. the next couple of series should be a lot better to watch
written by the Blazer Thoughts artist formely known as "Scott R"
I'm a bit surprised...
…at how little we’ve seen Blount. I’d think they would give him a little more time to prove himself
if he had ANYONE around him
that’d be scary!!! He makes so much out of nothing.
It ain't easy supporting the Blazers and Ducks in San Diego, BUT I MANAGE!!
Dammit Locker is quick
He should be in Green!!! what an A-hole.
It ain't easy supporting the Blazers and Ducks in San Diego, BUT I MANAGE!!
Too quick
it always looks like we’ve got him and then he pulls an escape act right in the nick of time. it’s like some horrible purple and gold magic trick.
okay.
we need another good drive. let’s keep this going. gotta work that third-string QB magic.
They've gone to plaid!
I love Jerry Allen
“This one may beeeeeeeeee……..incomplete”
nice hit
i was just thinking i want to see someone hit him between the numbers, and BAM Paysinger answers my prayers.
Seriously, WTF would make someone choose UW over Oregon??? For as good as he is, Locker ain’t a smart kid by any means.
It ain't easy supporting the Blazers and Ducks in San Diego, BUT I MANAGE!!
I like seeing our QB's
But I hate seeing multiple QB’s in one game. That’s just a terrible idea, but Coach seems to love it!
It ain't easy supporting the Blazers and Ducks in San Diego, BUT I MANAGE!!
Is it me?
or are we moving A LOT slower between plays than last year? seems like I can almost go cook a meal between downs.

What do u guys think of byrd as p-returner?
it looks to me like he’s be pretty good if he stopped running into his own teamates.
he's looked decent so far.
I’ll have to see a couple of games before i make a solid decision

He had a few on the inside
why did he cut to the outside? Bad decision JJ.

perhaps the ONE thing I like about Locker
he has some great facial expressions.

Defensive???
WTF?? He was making a play on the ball AND had position!!! how in the fuck does he get called for defensive pass interference??

i guess an interception is a penalty this year
don’t try or you will get flagged!

we have a blount sighting
They've gone to plaid!
Think they'll ever let Harper throw one?
i say give him the chance to throw a jump ball into the end-zone here.
They're going to have to eventually...
Eventually teams will just stack the box against him

that was a bs call
he never stepped out.

BULLSHIT!
Those were BULLSHIT penalties!
There wasn’t a hand in the face, and that was incidental.
Gah… what are you gonna do?
Go Duckies!
okay, time to ease back on the single malt...
or, maybe, take another sip.
They've gone to plaid!
JJ with 12 carries...
…for a career-high 112 yards. Funny what being the feature back does for you
washington will still go for it after the TO
and it will be a designed run for Locker. I have no doubt.

ok I was half right.

nice tackle to save the first down

Haha, Jerry
“He just showed speed…and size…and touchdown”
nice run blount...looked like a human pinball
It ain't easy supporting the Blazers and Ducks in San Diego, BUT I MANAGE!!
yes
maybe he was just nervous, early, or having trouble adjusting to the speed, but he’s thrwon a few good balls in the fourth
That was one of the better throws I've ever seen.
He threw to an area he knew Maehl would be, and sure enough, there he was.
They've gone to plaid!
despite the lack of big plays on D
I can’t believe we’ve held them to just 10 points. That’s a great defensive effort. Now I just want to see some of those INTs like last year

well, it looked ugly in quarter 2
But overall i’d give em a solid B for the game. Not enough to beat someone like ASU, but we thankfully didn’t have them today. Now bring on the cupcakes so we can fine tune this machine and get on a roll!!
It ain't easy supporting the Blazers and Ducks in San Diego, BUT I MANAGE!!
Getting a nice preview here...
I like Alston. Him and LaMichael James are going to be a great backfield.
And having Harper with them…
Man, I’m gettin’ all excited for 2010 already.
Go Duckies!
Another KO RET inside the 10
Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy from the Huskies
Life is as it should be.
Ducks at the top of the conference, Huskies at the bottom.

They probably won't stay down there...
OSU is a good team with lots of potential. They’ll fight for 2nd or 3rd place at the end of the season.
Go Duckies!
That seems a bit high
I don’t think they’re good enough to beat Cal, ASU, USC, and us if we’re playing well
by inroywetrust on Aug 31, 2008 11:00 AM PDT up reply actions
Good game
Decent job on the O, great job on the D.
We’ll need to cut out mistakes and penalties to compete against the upper level Pac-10 teams, but we SHOULD have a good start to the season. There are a few wrinkles to iron out all over, but still, I’ll take the decisive win.
It’s gonna be a tough season though.
Go Duckies!
No reason we can't go 5-0...
USU, Purdue, Boise, and WSU are all highly beatable. Then the rough stuff starts…

Roper
has a concussion according to MB after the game. He doesn’t know the severity but Roper should be back this week.
Joe
Not sure what Ted Miller's "TV Report" is...
…but he seems to think Roper has a hand injury:
Obviously, the big story is the status of Oregon QB Justin Roper — an official announcement on his condition has not be made, though a TV report termed it a hand injury. If Roper is going to miss some games, then the Ducks appear to be prepared to use both Jeremiah Masoli and Chris Harper.
The balls?
