Coming from Boise State
hi guys, I like your site, anyway I'm coming to Eugene this weekand from Boise State and I pretty pumped up about the game this weekand. You guys definetly have more a talented team but after watching the Purdue game, I think we got a decent chance. We got a pretty good team this year and we are better than Purdue. If we were in th Pac 10, I would put us only behind Oregon and SC. Again you guys are more talented, and Im hoping for a good showing from the Broncos at Autzen.
Anyway Im going to be wearing Boise State Orange and Blue, and was wondering if there were any bars I should check out while im in town for the weekand. Friendly trash talking is always fun but I'm hoping not to get beat up just because Im wearing Blue and Orange.
Everyone always talks about how wild your stadium is and I'm pumped about the game this weekand. I think it should be good game.

Taylors, Rennies...
Are the typical “campus bars”. I don’t think you need to fear getting beat up much, generally it’s only the fucky and beaver fans that get the bulk of our harassment.
Glad to hear you’re making the trip, I plan on going over to your hood next year. It will be fun to see all the former Duck coaches back in Autzen.

park on campus and go to Rennie’s for breakfast, then walk over to Autzen

Beat up...
2 years ago when we played Arizona, I remember 2 fans wearing all blue and red and all painted up, with red and blue pompoms as a wig. They were having a good time, but being RESPECTFUL about it. They killed us in that game (beginning of the end of our ‘06 season), but people were still generally cool to them. Our fans will give you crap, but it’s generally good natured.
I’m more worried about this game than I was about the Purdue game. You should be pumped about the game. You will have a great time!

If your looking for a bar close to the stadium

Huh?
BSU would only be behind SC and O in the PAC 10? Seriously? BSU plays in the WAC and rarely plays teams of the PAC 10s size and talent level. They would be bottom feeders in the PAC 10. 3rd place??? Wow.
by spaceman21 on Sep 17, 2008 12:15 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
they wouldn't be bottom feeders
they’d be a decent team. Not winning a ton of conference titles, but with a good shot to finish in the upper half most every year. Boise’s easier to recruit to than Pullman or Corvallis.

Thanks for the hits guys,
yeah I plan on having a blast this weekand, everyone knows that Autzen gets wild, and I cant wait to check it out.
To clarify, spaceman21, I think this year we would be third best team in the pac10 and on a consistent basis we would be atleast in the middle of the pack. Well thats all hypothetical, hopefully we have a good showing this saturday.
Win or loose I hope to have a good time and thanks for the good vibes, I know you guys take your football serious in Eugene(we do too in Boise, what else do you think there is to do!) so its good to hear that people wont be go crazy if Im sporting the Orange and Blue.
Go Broncos
and thanks again

This year...
It shouldn’t be too hard to get 3rd in the Pac-10.

If you were sporting purple and gold,
you might get killed.
Blue and orange, not so much. Enjoy your visit to Autzen (but not too much :) )!

you might be better than Purdue but no one will beat us at home this year

Wish I could agree
Boise State is a dangerous team. Arizona beat us at home not too long ago. Don’t forget Stanford from last year. There is a lot to be scared of and injuries can change everything

Yep, but USC didn’t. I guess it would help me to be understood if I actually wrote what I thought in my head into my posts. ;)

Nope...
A trap game is like the ASU-UNLV game…because ASU was probably looking past UNLV to Georgia.
The players aren’t looking past BSU to Wazzu.

I Hope Not
I hope they aren’t looking ahead, but they could be looking ahead to USC. Most of what I hear everyone talking about is USC. By no means does that mean the players are looking ahead, but it is a risk. I think the fact that Boise State has become known as “giant killers” (and won a BCS game) will hopefully scare the players a little bit and keep them focused.

After what happened last week...
I don’t see any way that the team is looking ahead…
I don’t think they were looking ahead last week either though. They just played poorly on the offensive side.

Yeah...
They could definitely lose this game. Just about any team can win any game in college football.
But…not a trap game.

Boise State
Is your typical “dangerous” WAC team. They may fuck your team and BCS chances up, but if they were in the league for a whole year, they’d be no better than Stanford. It’s just the way it is

Dangerous yes, but...
They’ve never won on the road against the Pac-10. They’re 3-9 against ranked teams since 1996…only one of those wins coming since 2003. They’re 4-17 versus BCS teams…2 wins at home against Oregon State, a win at home against Iowa State, and of course the big Fiesta Bowl win over OU. Coach Mike is 17-0 versus the WAC.
See lots of BSU facts on pages 3 to 5 of their UO/BSU press release PDF.
I’ll agree they’re dangerous and our QB injury situation may give them some added confidence. But I like the trends.

My point being is that
I’m sick and tired of hearing the WAC/MWC fans saying they would finish 2nd or 3rd in the Pac 10. Just because they can beat us one game out of a year, doesn’t mean they would last over a full year. BYU barely squeaked by UW. Maybe I’m being ignorant, but come on?

I agree
Even though it’s the same argument that SEC fans use about their conference. ;) Though, the talent disparity between the SEC and Pac-10 is very different from the Pac-10 to MWC.
But playing in the MWC is very different than playing in the Pac-10, Big 12, or SEC. There is so much more talent that you cannot take any game lightly. BYU, Utah, etc. can come in and play with a Pac-10 team or two a year, but keeping that sustained for a whole season is a very different thing.
Boise State may finish well this year, but it would be very difficult for them to get there. Their talent is at best middle of the Pac-10 level. They could beat a lot of the teams, but playing the schedule week in and out would be a big jump.

Exactly
Talent is the #1 issue. The MWC and WAC love to talk about how they take the Pac 10’s “reject” players. That’s absolutely what it is. They are players that may be talented but couldn’t cut it (athletically or academically) in the Pac. They are very well coached, and play very good team ball. But they spend all year gaming for that one game of a year when they get a chance to show up their bigger brothers from the Pac 10. They scheme their zone defenses for one game. But put their DBs man to man against the Pac 10, and they would get torched by the bigger, stronger, faster athletes. Imagine Boise State having to play at USC in Week 6, come home to play UCLA the following week, then play at Cal and at ASU the next 2 weeks (for those who didn’t realize, that’s Oregon’s schedule). Many people think UO will go at worst 3-1 during that stretch, with a possible upset of USC. Can anyone see Boise State being able to win more than 1 game? Doubtful.

0-4
I could MAYBE see them winning 2 there (UCLA and MAYBE one more)…but I could see them more likely going 0-4, which is more to your point.

Yep
Now don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to take anything away from teams like Fresno State, BYU, Boise State, Utah, or TCU. They are solid teams who have handed it to the Pac 10 since the early part of the 2000s. But week in and week out, it just wouldn’t happen.
Kind of off topic, now that I look at that schedule I think a more likely result for UO is 2-2. Yes, 3-1 is possible, but I think they may drop one of those road games against Cal or ASU. That’s a tough stretch for any team.

I do want to take away from Fresno State...
They can shut the hell up until they win a freaking WAC title.
Until then, I will not give them respect as a football program. They are a pain in the ass to play, but it’s not worth it to play them, because they always lose games they should win.

Haha touche
I should have more of a grudge against the Bulldogs, given the nightmare they caused when OSU was finally ranked #1 a couple years ago, but for some reason, I found myself rooting for the ol’ bastards during the CWS last year and was rooting for them to beat Wisconsin last weekend. But you are correct- if they can’t win a mid-major WAC title, especially with Hawai’i going back to their crappy ways and BSU being a far cry from the hook-and-ladder, Statue of Liberty playing team.
Oh interesting fact to back up my point about BSU struggling in the Pac 10- they have never beaten a Pac 10 team on the road! When you have to play 4-5 road games a year, that’s gotta hurt.
Back to the Oregon-BSU game, it’ll be interesting to see how Oregon’s rush defense rebounds from that effort last weekend against Purdue. I think Ian Johnson is going to be a little better than Purdue’s RB, and they will have more rushing challenges this year, including: Nic Grigsby, UA; Best and Vereen, Cal; take your pick, USC; and dare I say, QUIZZ RODGERS, OSU

Johnson
I think Ian Johnson is a better RB, but their I think Purdue’s O-line is better. I don’t think we’ll struggle as badly against Boise State because of their relatively inexperienced O-line. On top of that, we knew we had to stop Purdue’s pass attack and I think we can all agree that Boise State’s pass attack isn’t in the same league as Purdue’s. That should allow us to commit to the run more.

Agreed
Point made. But a good RB can see holes that even an inexperienced OLine makes. I guess my point is what happens when you take a good RB and and an experience OLine, like USC or Cal. I think UO needs to shoot to hold Johnson under 100 yards (or less than 4 yards a carry)

Yessir
If we don’t shore some of it up we will be in trouble when we hit a team with both a good O line and RB. I think teams run the ball a little more frequently against us to keep our offense off the field. Warning: here comes the “if” game – if you take away that first 80 yard run, Purdue averaged 2.75 yards per carry against us. If we can hold Boise State to that I think we’re in good shape.

That is a good stat to know
But remember, its that one breakout run can beat you, and it almost did. Take USC for example: McKnight, Gable and Johnson are all players that can break out. I don’t think Ian Johnson has the speed to break one out like that, but he will pound the DLine and LBs all game.
