Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

Schlabach and Feldman Agree...

According to the ESPN Bowl Projections we're looking Rosey for New Year's Day.

An impressive jump from the preseason projection of Sun Bowl against Colorado. Thanks, guys!

I think we have a shot with 2 losses if we finish second in the Pac 10. Having the ability to run the ball like we showed against the fuskies should put us in a competitive situation in all of our games, even with the tough schedule.

I was out of town, so I didn't get to see the game (anxiously awaiting replay) but based on the box score things look like they went according to plan. Minus the Roper exit, of course.

Given the hype that UO receives

They are the only team in the Pac 10 (other than USC) that can receive that elusive 2nd BCS spot for the Pac 10. But I think it can only lose 1 game in order to do that. The Pac 10 isn’t strong enough in the media’s eyes to warrant a 2 loss team in a 2nd BCS game.

Agreed.

This talk is very early, and kind of ridiculous. Regardless, the talk is happening.

I’m not comfortable with all the Hype, because I think we’ll end up losing at least 2 games.

But that still doesn’t mean we won’t be going to the Rose Bowl. If USC hits the national championship game, another Pac-10 team is in the Rose Bowl, even if it doesn’t deserve it.

Could be anyone,

It’s college FB. We have to go into Reser this year.

Tough 4-game stretch...

@ USC, UCLA, bye, @ ASU, @ Cal. I would be happy with 2-2 in that stretch

Seriously,

and then we still have to go into Reser

Let's not forget...

The Rose Bowl likes crappy football. So they’ll take the top remaining Pac-10 and Big 10 teams. Screw those morons.

What do you mean they like crappy football?

Except for a couple of BCS games they have always taken the Pac-10, big-10 tops right?

As for the hesitation… I would think USC’s dominance would be more suspect at this point than Oregon being able to squeeze out a 2nd place finish. They are both a little iffy, but everyone is ready to reserve USC a spot after one dominant win. They were amazing, but their QB is coming off a huge injury, and who knows how good a day that they had, or how bad a day Virginia had.

That being said Predictions this early need to be taken with a gain of salt. It’s week two!

They chose USC-Illinois...

…instead of trying to get USC-Georgia.

They value tradition over quality football.

Absolutely right

And that’s why the BCS might boot the Rose Bowl when its contract is up. Here’s another thought I’m gonna write about in my next fan post on BtD: Why the Pac 10 commish needs to be replaced, because the Pac 10 needs stronger bowls! When our 2nd best Bowl Game (Holiday Bowl) is against against the 5th place team from any other conference, its pretty pathetic.

hmmm...

definitely two sides here, but… ah well.

I hate these things

I get the gist behind it, but it’s just adding to the needless hype. I don’t want anyone telling me Oregon’s going to the Rose Bowl unless I’ve been in a coma for three months and they’re actually playing in the Rose Bowl.

I’d love to see comparisons of how Oregon stacks up against other teams ranked in that area (especially Alabama…WTF?) but ESPN is too kind to oblige us with that.

Do you have a citation for that?

by everett on Sep 3, 2008 7:53 PM PDT reply actions

I have no factual link

from the BCS themselves, but there has been a mass speculation from media members and fans alike that this might happen. Can anyone at least back me up and say that they’ve heard something similar so I don’t look like a dumbass? I know I’ve read or heard this more than once.

Well you are a Beavs fan…so I think you’ve got the dumbass thing all figured out by now!

The best I can offer is...

It’s that there is a sliver of believability in the claim. The Rose Bowl guys are very different than the rest of the BCS bowl gangs.

I wasn't calling BS

I really just wanted to know the source so i could partake in the knowledge.

To Paraphrase what I remember

The Big 10 and the Pac 10 commissioners refuse the idea of a plus-1 or any other kind of playoff format. Also, it’s becoming obvious (as mentioned above) that the Rose Bowl favors tradition over the best teams (i.e. Illinois last year), which may not always be best for the BCS- think about the ratings of a USC-Georgia Rose Bowl last year. So the basic grumblings are that if the Big 10, Pac 10, and Rose Bowl aren’t willing to evolve then the BCS might drop the Pac 10, Big 10 and Rose Bowl all together. Will that actually happen? I very highly doubt it. But it’s been talked about.

by The VD Special on Sep 4, 2008 11:35 AM PDT up reply actions

well

I dont remember anything about Rose bowl be dropped from BCS. What I have heard is that the Rose bowl does favor tradition over the best possible teams playing, and that is obvious. What wouldn’t surprise me is some random person hearing about the Rose Bowls biast ways on ESPN or whatever, and automatically throwing it in random conversation around the water cooler one day that the Rose Bowl may get dropped from the BCS. You know how some people are when they get ahold of a small fact they start making big predictions or assumptions. To make them self sound more knowledgeable in the conversation, instead of just the the hard facts

by AirForceDuck on Sep 4, 2008 12:59 PM PDT up reply actions

I'll accept that

And until any hard evidence comes about I will continue to accept that. But I’m pretty sure I’ve read it from actual ESPN writers (not that they are the greatest and most knowledgeable) that there has been speculation. Guess we’ll find out soon enough
