The Chicken Little Thread
There seems to be a few too many feathers flying around here when it comes to the future of the program. Obviously with the collapses of recent there can be blame placed on the coaching, injuries, lack of motivation and game-time coaching.
What I would like to know is: Where do you see the Oregon program going in the next 5, or 10 years and why is our current model so destined for failure?
It's obvious that we can achieve the highest level of success with the right personnel in the right formations but when should we start expecting that situation EVERY year?
In this generation of college football we may not be able to be the powerhouse on the level of USC, LSU, Notre Dame, and Ohio State but we should be aiming to compare with the likes of Texas, Auburn, Michigan, and West Virginia. How do we present ourselves as on the level of these programs?
We're all witnessing a dramatic coming of age in Oregon football. Save for WV (who I'm unsure about the history of) who in that above list has gone from decades of losing tradition to where they are now in 14 years?
The sky isn't falling, Oregon football has a bright future but things do have to be eventually changed. What is that miracle move that can take us from where we are now to where it seems most of us want to be?

I wish I knew the answer
I think we have the talent and resources. I don’t want to see Bellotti go, but a few more years without a BCS appearance with the talent we have and it might be time. Think about this…
Let’s say we lose another game or 2 (entirely possible). We don’t make a BCS bowl. That means that if we don’t make a BCS bowl in the next 2 years it will be 10 years between BCS appearances. I may be out of line, but I expect more than that… I mean, Utah, Boise State, and Hawaii expect to make a BCS game once every 10 years!

Never. Oregon will most likely never reach that point. There is no miracle move that will turn us into a power.
Oregon is slowly gaining more talent, but these things don’t happen overnight. We must win more games, and do a better job finishing out the season.
Also, what’s up with all the angst around here. We lose one game to a good team and everyone starts questioning the entire program?

No kidding. But then again, this thread IS “The Chicken Little Thread”.

Yeah
I don’t agree with the angst, but felt it needed a home.

Angst
No angst here. I’m talking from a hypothetical situation. I still think we could win the PAC 10 this year…we ARE in 1st place right now hahahaha
I just want to know where people’s breaking point is. If teams like Boise State can set their target for a BCS game every 10 years, why shouldn’t our target be more?

Sometimes it's hard to maintain perspective
I’m old enough to remember when losses weren’t the slightest bit painful. They were simply expected. Any win was a big win, even if it was against a lame-duck WAC team or the then hapless Beavers.
Why do so many of us – yeah, I’m probably guilty – overreact to a loss, even against a quality team like Boise State? Expectations, misguided as they may be.
“…these things don’t happen overnight” is absolutely dead on. The program has turned so many corners. Remember when going to the Independence Bowl was huge? Now beating the Huskies is expected. Losing a game at Autzen is nearly unthinkable. The Ducks start seasons ranked and we expect them to stay there every year. We expect to reload, not rebuild.
A little angst this week, maybe. But the big picture is still bright. With quality recruiting, more years of great non-conference schedules and continued stability on the coaching staff, it should stay bright. The Ducks are relevant as a football program and anyone who says they aren’t is being elitist or foolish. I’ll be mostly satisfied if it stays that way through the peaks and the valleys. That certainly was not the case for a long, long time.
Now is a great time to be a Duck fan!

Weird
This column could apply almost word for word with the situation at Cal.
If you guys figure out the answer, send it down south. Because with the renovations for the stadium (finally) underway the difference between the schools will be little more than green vs blue, some truly bizzare helmets & unis in Eugene, and the presence of more Nobel laureates in Berkeley.

I'd like to suggest...
that we apply this whole line of reasoning to the basketball program and Ernie as well.
They've gone to plaid!

I'm with Jeremy
its a little hard to climb on the “Dump Bellotti” bandwagon. I remember when we were total shit. When you just prayed you won the Civil War because at least then you had something.
We’ve got it pretty good.
