I have read and heard a lot lately about the expectations of Duck fans. I wanted to see if my expectations are way out of line with what everyone else expects. I discussed this on an answer I did to another post (link below):
"I agree that expectations are a little out of whack. Take my expecations at the beginning of this year…I HOPED for a BCS bowl, but EXPECTED Holiday Bowl. I do remember the years where ANY bowl game would do, but those days are long gone. The program, in my opinion, has established that those days SHOULD be gone. We should be able to expect good bowl games now.
Let me ask you this: if we go 5 more years of not being in a BCS bowl game, are you okay with that? If not, does Bellotti get any of that blame? At this point, I think it’s ridiculous to fire Bellotti. However, if we have a 10 year drought on BCS games (2001 – 2011), I think at some point you have to start looking at a new head coach. Sometimes change is needed to get to that next level.
Take the San Diego chargers for example: everyone freaked out that they’d fire Schottenheimer (spelling) after going 14-2, but that change resulted in them getting to the AFC Championship game. I’m a Charger fan and supported that change. I think, as a Duck fan, we’re nearing that point. At some point, no matter how good the coach is, if we don’t make a couple of BCS games here and there I get impatient. Do you think that expecting 2 BCS games every 10 years is unrealistic?"
What are YOUR expectations on a yearly basis? If you are okay with not getting to a BCS game twice every 10 years, how often would you say to expect? Are you willing to settle for a Las Vegas Bowl / Sun Bowl type bowl most year?
