Open Thread: Ducks vs. Utah State

Utah State Aggies at Oregon Ducks, Sep 6, 2008 12:30 PM PDT

Utah State Aggies at Oregon Ducks

Autzen Stadium, Eugene, Orego

12:30 PT, Comcast SportsNet Northwest

We all know the terrible TV situation.  Many of us, including all ATQ authors, won't be able to watch this game.  That said, nobody's keeping me away from my Ducks.  All of you listening on the radio, join me here.  For those of you who are out of town, we'll see if we can find an online stream and post it in the thread.

GO DUCKS!!!

What an awful broadcast

Could go for a lot less crowd shots and player mugshots…they continually clip the beginning of plays. Better than the alternative I suppose.

I can't find any CSN. I'm on O-zone.

The O-zone announcers only said he was heard telling teammates he was okay. Shoulder pads off, ice bag on the shoulder. I’m not buying the “okay” the way he was holding that arm, until I hear otherwise.

Turned off the OSU feed

It was screwing up my O-Zone stream. Don’t want to see them get embarrassed anyway. Masoli’s been unimpressive. That FG is big for covering the spread though. You guys should check out centsports.com. They give you a free dime and you can make sports bets and cash out if you get enough $$

Fumble was terrible...

This game is so methodically… slow.

Not sure what it is, either the lack of JJ, Utah State, or what… but this game just doesn’t hold a lot of excitement.

Hopefully Masoli will settle down like he did last week. He’s made a couple good throws, but he’s been a bit too eager to make plays with his legs.

Really impressed with Harper...

Showed good decision making, and he’s flat-out faster than I was expecting. I always thought of him as more of a power runner a la Juice Williams, but he’s got some wheels too. He’s got to fix his delivery if he ever wants to start for us, but he can be a serious weapon this season.

He was absolutely trucking

You know his stats, right? This was in basically a half of work. If he was given the entire game, in a meaningful game, I guarantee he rumbles for 250+.

He was just looking beastly. His “1 yard TD run” in the 2nd quarter, was maybe the best 2nd and 3rd effort I’ve ever seen. He was absolutely snowed under at the 2, and he just kept pushing, and basically took it in with the line ahead of him.

This guy is something else entirely.

excellent

look up the game thread. Beastly was the word I used to describe him based on what Jerry Allen was saying on the radio.

I did look through the game thread

I didn’t notice that though.

He’s definitely sticking to his said style of run through, not around. And that’s what gets the team and fans fired up, a big back plowing over LBs and DBs. Breakin their ankles like JJ, then crackin their sternums like Blount Force, this is the best 1-2 punch since PB&J.

I'm not sure if Jerry told you this on the radio or not

But there were about 4 plays in the second quarter with Roper taking snaps under center. It was really strange, a big two-TE set with Roper under center and a single back with two wide. I didn’t like seeing it at all, and I always thought that Chip had every single set out of the gun. I’m not sure if anyone else heard or noticed this.

Under center

Yep, a few of us watching definitely noticed (and commented on) Roper going under center a few times.

What did you think of it?

For some reason I hated it… but Chip does know what he’s doing…

Strange

But, I didn’t mind seeing it. I don’t remember what plays we ran out of the formation yesterday. But, there were times when I wished we would line up under center on short yardage situations last year.

They were flysweep options

With Scott, I think, streaking across, but we would never give, they were fakes.
