Rose Bowl Open Thread

Hey! It's the bowl game that takes itself way too seriously and stops a playoff! I'm so glad we get a parade and a "Rose Queen" instead of more and better football.

Suck it Rose Bowl.

At least it should be a good game this year. Let's hope the Pac-10 goes 5-0 in bowl games.

JoePa is freaking awesome.

He is so cantankerous. Most people like that live up in the mountains away from all other people.

I’m still scared from the Sun Bowl yesterday. I’m not sure I can watch two defenses slug it out.

I’m addicted to the no-huddle, I’m addicted to lots of touchdowns.

I’m addicted to quack. :-(

If USC establishes a run game...

They will win easily.

Terrible break for PSU....

but Sanchez really should have stepped up. Poor awareness.

Eh

After the season the Pac-10 had (in terms of national respect), I’d root for any other conference school that was in the position to secure a perfect conference bowl record.

Even Washington.

I agree...

I pretty much always cheer for Pac-10.

I agree

UW is the lone possible exception

by ntrebon on Jan 1, 2009 2:43 PM PST up reply actions

Im not a pac 10 fan..

but an Oregon one. What does a USC victory accomplish for us other than continuing the myth that our conference consists of USC and the little sisters? A defeat, on the other hand can’t hurt us in recruiting and has the added benefit of wiping that smug smile off Carroll’s mug. Plus I wanna see him lob a few F bombs at Paterno.

If USC loses...

Then it’s a not very good team, and a bunch of worse ones…

If USC wins, it’s a really good team, and a bunch of other good teams. If the Pac-10 does well, Oregon does well.

by jtlight on Jan 1, 2009 2:50 PM PST up reply actions

But...

If USC loses, then Sark accumulates his first loss as Udub’s head coach. I cant think of a better way for him to begin the recruiting trail…

Not to mention all the SC band wagoners who will call for Carroll’s head.

How does any of this benefit Oregon?

--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog

by jtlight on Jan 1, 2009 2:59 PM PST up reply actions

Indirectly

Anything that’s bad for UW is good for Oregon.

But, I’d still rather take whatever benefit comes from a boost in respect for the conference, as a whole.

by ntrebon on Jan 1, 2009 3:01 PM PST up reply actions

The best UW win was in 2000...

when it meant something. It’s fun when they suck, but meaningful wins, like 65-38, mean much more.

by jtlight on Jan 1, 2009 3:02 PM PST up reply actions

Exactly

I dont want OSU to revert to total suckage, let them just remain of lesser uberage than us. I hope Washington sucks for eternity.

Carroll

I think that losing to OSU would do more to wipe the smug smile off of his face than beating PSU in the Rose Bowl.

At this point, I’d take the boost in national respect that would come from a perfect conference bowl record. Particularly after the conference’s preseason performance against the MWC,

Man...

What a terrible defensive job on the option. 4 on the QB. They should have stuffed that for a loss, much like Oregon in the Holiday Bowl on the 2nd OSU TD.

by jtlight on Jan 1, 2009 2:39 PM PST reply actions

For all the USC speed on defense

They sure didn’t use it to their advantage on that play.

Though, PSU just cheated again to negate a big play.

Penalties are just killing PSU

Two huge plays called back, on 5 yard calls.

Thought it was 4:30 Pacific.

So how’s everybody doing?

USC is just ridiculously good. Penn State is a very good football team. But they are getting beaten in most facets of the game.

Filthy Sanchez is doing an excellent job of unloading the ball in time before taking hits.

Great awareness for a young QB.

I usually don’t say it this soon, but that’s probably ballgame if PSU doesn’t score before half. USC gets the ball first in the 2nd half, and with that defense it’s gonna be tough to come back.

"When Bellotti attempted to shake the hand of Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson after the game, Robinson offered his left hand. His right was swollen and battered from the Ducks' defense."

by MarineCorpsDuck on Jan 1, 2009 3:32 PM PST reply actions

USC is just a better team

They win this game 8 times out of 10. Penn State wasn’t prepared, and doesn’t match up physically.

Okay

The Rose Bowl needs to revert to the pre-1947 practice of inviting an at-large team. The PAC 10 has clearly outgrown the Big 10.

I'd settle for Florida

The Rose Bowl is even mentioned in the Alabama fight song. I think they went 4-0 in their appearances.

The TV coverage got to me, and I’m not headed back until the Orange Bowl.

HEY, DID YOU KNOW THAT USC IS THE GREATEST TEAM EVER? WE THINK IT’S HORRIBLE TO NOT DECIDE CHAMPIONS BY PLAYING GAMES. EXCEPT FOR 2003 USC; THEY WERE STILL CHAMPIONS. BUT WE’RE NOT BIASED, WE SWEAR.

OH, AND WOULDN’T IT BE AWESOME IF SOUTHERN CAL GOT TO PLAY THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WINNER? WE’RE GOING TO SHOVE THAT PHRASE DOWN YOUR THROATS. BUT WE’RE NOT GOING TO CALL IT THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME BECAUSE WE’RE BITTER THAT WE DON’T HAVE THE RIGHTS TO IT YET.

Seriously, can’t ESPN tone it down just a liiiiiittle bit?

Welcome to the Pit!
