Interview: Ask Rob Moseley about the Ducks - or Anything Else
|
Rob Moseley, from the Register Guard, has been covering Oregon Football for the paper since 2001. In 2007, he began blogging online, covering Duck Football and Lady Ducks Basketball. He has also done his fair share of radio, acting as a regular guest on "The Sports Idol w/ Justin Myers" on 1320 The Score. His football blog has become one of the key sources of Duck Football news on the web. Rob has been gracious enough to consent to some questions. So we're turning this into a community affair. Here's your chance to ask him anything you like about his career, the Ducks or anything else you might like (within reason). We will send the highest recommended questions off to Rob. |

Hey Rob. A lot of talk has been given to the so-called “death of print media” over the last few years. Social networks, blogs, and online media have been gradually taking readership away from traditional print media. For you as a journalist, what has been your biggest challenge in adapting to the changing media landscape?

Rob, is it possible that the coaching staff and whoever is running it right now could be shortsighted enough to bring on Tee Martin simply to secure Tajh Boyd as a duck? I wouldn’t think so, but then I don’t know Chip Kelly well enough to predict what type of decisions he may make.

this might be an awkward question to answer the way it is worded. If Rob were to answer “yes” to this, he almost certainly would strain his relationship with the powers that be. In effect, he would be calling them “short sighted” so he has to tow the company line a little bit. Perhaps something like this might be better?
“Rob, from your impressions of the coaching staff, is the possibility of signing Tajh Boyd a significant factor in the consideration of Tee Martin being added to the coaching staff?”

I could be misreading it then. It sounded to me like
1) is it possible (yes or no)
2) that the coaching staff and whoever is running it right now (bellotti or kelly + people recruiting him (kelly in this case))
3) is shortsighted enough to….
if 1 = yes, then Bellotti/Kelly = shortsighted
else everything is fine
I could be misunderstanding for sure. Just want to make sure Rob isn’t put in a bad spot by implying a negative opinion of someone.

Master Moseley, the Xavier Ramos fallout has left a bad flavor in a lot of people’s mouth. The coaching staff responded to the issue as essentially “business as usual” – does the current recruiting season seem that they’ve taken a more conservative approach as a result from last year?

I asked him this a couple weeks ago and he didn't know, but things may have changed.
Rob, what really will come of Nate Costa? Is there any possibility, if not as an athlete, he could become a valuable assistant QB coach or something?

an interesting addition to this question might be concerning the recruitment of Boyd and what that means for Nate (and possibly Roper)

and...
Do you feel there is a difference in the mindsets of college football writers to other sports media, considering FBS college football is the one major American sport where the media is most influential in determining a champion?

Phil Knight impact
Rob, Oregon athletics are ridiculed frequently because of the Phil Knight and Nike connections. What is your perspective on that relationship? What are the nature of the stipulations laid out by Mr. Knight for his financial suport – if any – and has the university drawn a line between Nike support and Nike control?
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Doh!
There’s nothing quite like approaching the local writer with an astute question, then spelling support with one p.
