Around SBN: Miikka Kiprusoff Wins 300th Game, Buffalo Crushes Boston

Will we get swept by the Beavers?

No one wants to talk about, hypothesize or merely think about the prospect of our northern neighbors beating us twice this putrid basketball season. But the way I see it at the very least we lose in Corvallis and to be honest I give us maybe a 60 percent chance to win at home. Too early to worry? I honestly think we pick up a win at home.. maybe one of at most 3 wins we get all season.

How do the rest of you see this playing out?

Sweep

Just cause they have Obama on their side doesn’t mean they’re suddenly good at basketball. With the exception of the USC game, they’ve looked just as bad as us. Plus, they smell bad.

Anybody else...

…get mad seeing that terrible scarf behind Obama at the inauguration? Every time he was on I got pissed, worst thing about a great day. I hate black and orange as much as I like Obama.

Tom Brokaw flubbed his bio. First they said he was a coach at princeton, then a player (which he was) and that he was coaching at “some school in Oregon”. As an OSU fan, you have to be pissed. Here is your chance to get that wonderful pub for all the world to see and what happens? Everyone forgets your name

Canzano wrote about it.

HAHA

"When Bellotti attempted to shake the hand of Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson after the game, Robinson offered his left hand. His right was swollen and battered from the Ducks' defense."

What a bunch of whiners.

Robinson went to Princeton – that’s a perfectly legitimate mistake. In fact, who knows? Maybe it WAS a Princeton scarf?

Am I the only person that, aside from rivalry, thinks the colors Orange and Black are disgusting?

Really, I’ve always thought so.

Unknown at this Point

Their style of game is much like Washington State’s…they grind you down and put themselves in a position to win the game. Because of our turnover issues and bad shooting, we play right into their hands. I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose the game but we have a good shot to win as well, strictly because of talent. I know we have lost a lot of games in a row but let’s not forget that we have actually won some games this year. KState was not a horrible team

What may be the demise of us...

May be Ernie Kent’s game coaching “coaching.” It seems like Robinson, as long as he’s tied to Barack Obama (which I imagine will be for quite some time), will have excellent recruiting firepower, comparable to Ernie’s big haul years that we witness every so once in a while, and probably more consistent. Ernie may be the Ron Zook of college basketball, but Coach Rob may well be the Urban Meyer. Who knows?

I can’t testify as to Coach Rob’s game coaching, but high stakes and I say he’s better than Ernie. We will have to see though if he could pull off the double-dip of recruiting prowess and the actual coaching, which Ernie himself has proved can only do the former.

I feel that if we go dont get 5 wins it might be time for a change.

Theres no reason for uo to be last place in the pac.
A preseason goal should be going to the dance and it should be that unrealistic goal

by Duck4Lif3 on Jan 22, 2009 6:35 PM PST reply actions

5 wins?

you mean 5 in league play? Because we have 6 right now, non in league.
That would be a lofty accomplishment, Duck4Lif3. Right now we’re down 24-7
in the 1st half.

by ochocokid on Jan 22, 2009 8:11 PM PST reply actions

you post saddens me

We have six wins? 5 pac 10 wins a lofty accomplishment? Were we in the elite 8 two years ago and in the dance last year? This is a disgrace, after reaching the heights we have over the last decade we should not be in this situation. We were in the running for John Wall, that type of players don’t even look at programs that are not elite or trying to get there. This year we are awful, forget John Wall, I hope we can get a 4*.

I agree with Duck4lif3, the dance should be our preseason goal minimum. We had become that good a program, I dont know what happened.

I tend to be an Ernie apologist in most cases but I think that this “cycle” we are in is a direct result of his management of the team. Seniors graduate, people leave early, transfer, drop out, I get all that. But losing all of your veteran leadership with no plan in place to replace it? That one is on Ernie. There are teams out there with more Freshman on their team and they are doing better. Those teams all have veteran leadership to some extent. Our veteran leadership is on the sidelines yelling at players.

Do I think Ernie is a good coach? Yes, no doubt. Couldn’t get to the elite 8 without some form of good coaching. Do I think he is a good recruiter? For sure. Do I think he is a good program manager? Not in the slightest.

People don’t like extremes. It is my belief that is why people think Alliotti is a bad coach and why they think Ernie is a bad coach. People are more willing to accept small changes up or down but if something extreme happens, people can start going “what the hell” and asking questions more readily

my apologies, trumpetduck. Didn’t mean to bring you down. Lofty…..ok,wrong choice.
Hey, it goes without saying that the goal at season’s start is to make post-season
and be league-competative. But when you look at how close and competative the
rest of the pac 10 is, be it ucla at wsu, osu at cal, whatever the match-up, and having
just had our hats handed to us by 22, 5wins in league let us say would be a major
accomplishment. For this team, at this point in the season.

After the Stanford game

I think my 3 win goal may even be lofty.

by duckyou on Jan 24, 2009 1:50 PM PST reply actions

maybe this might help

get the whole team to sit down collectively, you too ernie, and WATCH 2 other pac 10
teams go at it, say like the way arizona and wash. played tonight? 104 to 97, maybe
see how other teams are scoring points? And playing inspired? Or maybe pay attention
to how wash. st. beat a very good asu team tonight?

by ochocokid on Jan 29, 2009 11:32 PM PST reply actions

Easy now

That was way closer than I think anyone expected. UO has some talent. If (and this is a HUGE if) they are 0-fer going into the 2nd game with us, look for them to come out firing as not wanting to be only the 2nd Pac10 team ever to go 0-18 in conference play

I support Takimoto in his effort to support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

I know

I thought it was going to be close. You’re right that they don’t want to go 0-18. It should be interesting who is favored in the next game.
