Boyd to make decision Tuesday

According to rivals Tajh Boyd 4 star Quarterback out of Hampton VA has a press conference set for 5 pm eastern time where he will make his final choice. He has boiled it down to Oregon, Ohio State and late arrival and maybe the Duck's largest threat Clemson.

At this Point I'd like to say i'm confident He will choose the green and yellow. But i'm a little scared the distance may be too far and Clemson may have just stolen Boyd. I honestly don't see him going to OSU and playing 3 years behind Pryor, seems counter productive for a guy who seems to want to play right away.

probably clemson

I think he’d be doing some waiting here, too. Behind Masoli and Thomas. Sure would be nice to have him though.

Thanks for the post.

Clemson has a large QB roster too. WIlly Korn was a big recruit for them a couple years ago, and they landed Kyle Parker last year. I don’t think Boyd would start playing right away at Clemson either.

he will cast his lot with us considering our recent history of needing so much depth at qb.

Very exciting.

I second that, I read that Clemson is his Dad's choice.

If he comes great if not oh well

If he goes somewhere else because of the depth chart he is a girl anyway. I have read some of his quotes and he says he could compete anywhere he went. I for one do not care if he shows up. I do think that he could be a good qb in our system, but he seems to have the im such a badass attitude. Besides his dad seems to love what Clemson was selling. First I read that his dad said distance was not a factor because he would move the family. Today after the Clemson trip his dad has changed his tune by saying how expensive it is to move. I agree it is expensive and unless they get hooked up with the folks that set up reggie bush’s family it would cost them alot to move across the country. I just hate the kids who think that they should be qb 1 right out of the gates. Oh yeah i read somewhere that Bryce Brown was not happy about the OC choise at the U. Anyone know any truth to that?

by ducksfan on Jan 26, 2009 7:24 PM PST reply actions

dont know about the OC, but I did here that he would follow Boyd here. Or more accurately (can a rumor be more or less accurate?) if Boyd comes Brown might follow, if Boyd goes to Clem brown would forget about us. Rumor rumor rumor. Friend of a friend in athletics so meh.

A little more on Brown.

A Scout.com article today had Bryce saying he was waiting to see where some of the non-committed OL recruits were going to land. One of the five he specifically mentioned, 3-star OG Malcom Bunche gave a verbal to Miami today.

I really do not understand Browns reasoning

I understand that he wants to go were his brother is, but how is Miami doing running the ball recently? Common Jared spit some stats out for me. Oregon is among the best in the country the past two years with our stud OC and he is locked down for years. If I were his brother I would want him to go where he can make a name for himself right away.

by ducksfan on Jan 27, 2009 10:08 AM PST reply actions

Yeah...

Miami has been pretty mediocre. Over the past few years, they have not averaged better than 145 ypg rushing the ball (last season), and have averaged around 125 or so. They have been no better than 65th in the nation ranked against other teams.

They have also not had a 1000 yard rusher in the past 5 years. They best was Frank Gore in 2004, and he had 945 yards in 12 games.

Honestly, if you want to become a high draft pick, going to Miami would be a terrible decision.

I thought I read...

…not a great way to start a comment, I realize.

A couple weeks back I think I read some comments from Brown’s brother saying he wanted his brother at Miami, but he had encouraged Bryce to go to whatever school was best for him. It didn’t sound like Bryce felt compelled toward Miami simply because his brother was there.

College football aside… The Eugene scene versus the Miami scene?

No kidding. It does show how quickly programs can both rise and fall.

It wasn’t all that long ago, some columnists, albeit stupid ones, thought Miami could challenge some NFL teams in a match. Ever since Miami let a Ohio State freshman run over them in the national championship game, they dropped out of the spotlight.

Boyd

I read somewhere that Boyd is going to get his knee worked on this summer and will surely redshirt next year. With that said, he was looking at the best possible place to rehab his knee and that is Oregon for sure. He raved about the facilities and if all is true, I dont see any other school knocking Oregon out of the rehab loop.

yeah, I’m not sure we needed them much. Receivers perhaps one or two top-notch guys would have helped (we are still in the running for a couple) but QBs are pretty full (Costa, Roper, Thomas, Masoli, Pestal) and RBs are stacked (Crenshaw, Alston, Blount, James, Lewis)

Do we EVER actually have good LB's?

we could recruit the two best LB’s in the nation and Aliotti would find a way to make them underachieve

by duckyou on Jan 27, 2009 2:23 PM PST up reply actions

That's pretty ridiculous...

We haven’t had high level talent at the LB spot in years. But that’s what happens when your team is offense oriented, and buries the Donte Rosario’s of the world on the depth chart.

As far as other LBs…what’s Aliotti supposed to do with Brent Haberly. John Bacon, etc. Over the past few years, we haven’t had talent at that spot, yet the play is usually at least adequate, with players like Anthony Trucks, Blair Phillips, etc. stepping up.

Ok the stars next to a player name do not always matter. I may be wrong, but wasnt Unger only like a 2 or 3 star player. Im sure no one jumped for joy when we landed him. Sure there are the Haloti’s and the Stewarts out there that are 5 star guys that pan out, but there are also the 2 and 3 star guys who come into there own when the get better coaching in college. Wasnt Cam Colvin a really high recrut for us? I dont think that he met expectations at all beings he was a 5 star guy.
