Quack Fix: An Oregon fan's letter to Matt Barkley, and this weekend's matchup is eerily similar to 2007's
Two weeks ago was Bye Week. Last week was Hate Week. This week? It's Backhanded Compliment Week. Take it in stride, Matt Barkley. As the linked letter states, "Your eardrums are what we are after—and we will stop at nothing to get them. PS: Nice hair." Here's your Morning Quack Fix:
- The Oregonian's John Hunt has article on the similarities between this weekend's matchup with USC and the game in 2007. I'd forgotten how eerily similar the circumstances were two years ago. Just in time for Halloween.
- ESPN.com's Ted Miller runs through some quick facts about this weekend's upcoming Pac-10 matchups. Did you know the Ducks have the nation's No. 16 scoring offense and the Trojans the nation's No. 16 scoring defense? Something's gotta give.
- The Oregonian's Aaron Fentress discusses former Oregon center Enoka Lucas's fresh start in the United Football League with the Florida Tuskers. It's good to hear Lucas has found a place to play pro football after unsuccessfully pursuing a career in the NFL.
- If you watched Buffalo's win over Carolina on Sunday, you already know about Jairus Byrd's recent success in his rookie year in the NFL. In case you don't know, Sal Maiorana of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle has a great piece on Byrd's budding stardom. Maiorana points out Byrd's on pace to take home the defensive rookie of the year award if he continues to play as well as he has.
- Bleacher Report scribe Fletcher Johnson issued his weekly Oregon Strategy Session, obviously discussing Oregon's ensuing matchup with USC. Always worth a read if you have time.
As always, leave any relevant links or comments below.

OH MY GOD!!!!
Now we (Chip Kelly included) are completely overlooking college football alltogether to wait for Byrd’s RDPOY honors! We are screwed! PANIC?
On Halloween; USC will die, Matt Barkley will cry, and all of the little bandwagoning Trojan fans will shout "WHY!?"

I think the media will be pretty split on this game
I see more people picking Oregon than they did when we played Cal, but I also see a lot of people picking USC because they are ranked higher and believe they are a better team. Either way, who cares, no love now, means eating crow later

This is kind of like USC 2007
But they are not as good on either side and although we are not quite as good on offense, our defense is much better.

Is it just me?
Or is Barkley getting a lot of credit for the tOSU game, even though he was pretty bad for three and a half quarters and then just okay on that last drive (seriously, he made one or two good passes, the rest was Joe McKnight running wild). I’m not doubting the kid’s ability; he’s obviously very talented and makes some very good plays. I’m just curious why USC people (and some Oregon people – see the above letter) are so eager to point to tOSU as the reason why Barkley can succeed in a hostile road environment like Autzen.
I don’t know about you guys, but if Barkley goes 15 for 31, 195, no TD’s, 1 INT, I will say we have a great shot to win the game.

All due respect to your point, Oregon’s offense/special teams are better than tOSU’s.

Clever point Hunt and all BUT
…can we not talk about 2007?! I have already sensed the similarities and am already getting really nervous that we have to go play @Arizona. I hate that damn field for being the place our beloved Dennis Dixon went down and I really, sincerely hope nothing like what happened to him happens to our boys this year. It’s bad enough that ESPN.com’s college football main page has an article about Autzen’s noise that has a picture of Dennis. WE DO NOT WANT TO RISK THE JINX TOO MUCH HERE PEOPLE!
I’m sorry to writing-shout and get paranoid, but dear Heaven even thinking about Dennis still breaks my damn heart.

In seriousness, I’m beginning to wonder if his computer just can’t handle special teams success. Is their evidence that the Ducks’ success on turnovers and special teams is unsustainable? Are those points too unpredictable so he doesn’t include them in his calculations?
On some level, I agree, a blocked punt isn’t something you can rely on every week. But special teams success isn’t an accident, either. The Ducks are doing something right, and Steele’s machine isn’t giving them enough credit for that.
