Oregon 47, USC 20: Celebration Thread
Can you say domination? Oregon outplayed SC at every position on the football field, and, for all intents and purposes, USC's run at the top of the conference is dead. Juju has once again blessed us, and its shaping up to be a magical season.
The place for your celebratory musings is here. And an extra hour for drinking to boot. Enjoy this one, because that was one of the finest performances ever by an Oregon football team.

This is the best Oregon team I've ever seen, period
They don’t just beat you, they destroy you. 1 punt the entire game for Oregon.

Question from reporter: "Coach, you sound like you were suprised that they could move the ball like that?"
Pete: “Absolutely, we’ve never been in anything like that”
Re-posted from the game thread, but I thought it was worth it.
Trojans, meet woodshed.
Congratulations, Ducks!
I’m just still so surprised the rest of the nation didn’t see this coming.

I saw a win coming
A win by 27, only in my wildest dreams.

Congratulations
That was an absolute beatdown – both the coaching and the players for Oregon were so far superior, there was no comparison. My only beef with this is I am going to be getting a heaping ration of shit from my brother the Duck alum.
Best of luck with the rest of the season and the Rose Bowl.

Barkley is going to be one hell of a player

Congratulations to the Ducks
from this Beaver.
We all know how hard, and how impressive, any win against the Trojans is. That was a statement! And I still maintain the Trojans are NOT that over-rated. Which makes this win all the more impressive.

A sure sign of a crisis on defense – Mays was reduced to making proper tackles instead of trying for KTFO shots.

Mays biggest weakness
Has been his ability to react quickly to plays. With all our trickery, he had no chance.

Speaking of May's
Is anyone as giddy as me to see what excuses Mark May will make up for USC… and how they still belong in the top 5?

Ok, the guy gets 1/3 to 1/2 a point of credit for admitting he was wrong.
But the other portion comes from being fair instead of incendiary on an individual article, and more importantly on a regular basis.
The guy freaking loves it when there is anything remotely negative to write about this team. He uses it for his own personal notariety.
Now he’s on the bandwagon? Hahahahahha.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. There are just so many other things to get you riled up about Canzano than that “six wins” comment.
I'm not too riled up, just sayin'

Probably true, it will be interesting to see what Steele comes up with for next week.

It's now 11am VietNam time
I just forced several of my British and Australian friends to watch the game on my 13 inch monitor through the slingbox. Even with 9 minutes to go, as my friends wandered off into boredom, i was envisioning the many possibilities of a USC comeback. Now that the game is over, we’ve finally finished our 20 hour halloween night. There is no celebration party in Saigon, so instead i’ll be drinking rum with Juju for the rest of the day.
I was in Vietnam last December
Amazing place. Glad to see you found a way to watch it from the craziest city I’ve ever visited (Saigon).

apocalypse now isn't really an option at the moment
nobody there. might stumble through the streets in a half hour or so. at the moment, sacrificing my ps2 to juju, to prevent any further injuries to duck players.
What part of Saigon are you in?
Maybe you could head over to the Diamond Plaza for some American food to celebrate the win.

I live in District 4
Across the bridge from downtown. I’ll probably stay away from major shopping areas today,i don’t want to seem smug around people who have no idea why im smilling. Havana rum is still plentiful; might just be an in house celebration. If you happen to know of any oregon fans in vietnam, though, i’d be more than happy to accommodate any fellow ducks

I also live in Vietnam and watch all the duck games on sling box. Thank God for sling box it sure beats gamecast. I would celebrate with you but Hanoi is a long way from Saigon. We looked like the ducks of the Dennis Dixon year, maybe even better. My celebration will be watching the highlights of this game over and over. Go Ducks!!!!
This time is better

scared me
as the announcers kept praising barkley’s play (to the point that herbstreit even called him “human” after an incomplete pass), i started to worry that our lack of pressue would lead to USC points. good thing a few dropped passes and overthrown balls didn’t lead to 14 points
Great win for the Ducks

This is Wonderful!
Being in SoCal and watching the local news interview the dejected players…It’s not what JuJu wants, but in all fairness, it is what JuJu delivered.
Oregon dominated with over 600 yards of offense, 47 points and the worst loss in the Petey Era.

Very Proud
I’m so proud of this team and the coaching staff, Chip Kelly is showing himself to be a very special coach. I can’t think of anyone better to lead the Ducks. After early struggles I think we’re seeing that when the entire team buys in to the coaches plan 100% these guys can do great things. Without 15 5-star guys sitting on the bench like trendy schools that’s exactly what we need.
There are still four very challenging games left and two dangerous road trips but I’m very confident that Chip can keep this team focused. We’ve seen them hold steady through the good and the bad, if they can keep this train rolling maybe we will all get a chance to toast Mighty Juju in January!
This is a big game for the future of our program
With all the key recruits there this weekend, I’m sure a few were swayed.

Great Job, Ducks
I am a hard core Bruin, so needless to say I was rooting for Oregon tonight. I thought you guys might be vulnerable based on the amount of points we got against you, but I am happy to say that you rose to the occasion. There is beating just$c* (Bruins don’t capitalize the letters, and we refer to them as “just$c” in any event, with the asterisk being Cheatie Petie’s mythical championship), and there is humiliating them. I was glad to see you guys do it.
Now explain this, main stream media — why shouldn’t the Ducks be considered for the national championship game? Who could beat them at this point in the season? (Now the caveat – don’t let up. Everyone will be gunning for you.)
Anyway, great job by all Ducks.
Thanks Fox!

Huge Congrats from Iowa
Huge win for you guys, and since I don’t think the Hawks will make the NC game, hopefully we’ll see you guys in the Rose Bowl.
And hey, at least we can stop having to hear about how a one-loss USC is better than the three undefeated teams (including Iowa) ranked below them as of this week. (Of course, I’ll probably regret this when a one-loss duck team leapfrogs us in the rankings.

defense was amazing
With how amazing our offense looked today I hope people don’t forget to praise our defense. This was their biggest test of the season. They went up against a line that was bigger and stronger than them. But they weren’t intimidated they loaded the line and left our young secondary to shine. Every player on the defense did their job brilliantly. Great job against a very good offense.
Now - what to do about the BSU conundrum?
… clearly, UO is the better team. But, politics are heavy in college football land. Small state senators have threatened investigations into the BCS “monopoly”. Does the BCS cave into the pressure and keep BSU ahead of UO or do the Ducks move into the #4 position as they probably should.
And I ask this in seriousness …. I know how you all WANT it to be, but I wonder how you think it will actually play.

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when Bellotti and Kelly met in private when it was all over. Sure, they are both very professional and polite in public, but behind closed doors you have to think there was at least a high five, if not an all-out coach-to-coach belly bump.

I got no quota left for the remaining games…but how can we be denied, after such a a game?
(Sitting through my third playback of the full game since last evening)…
As a 20yr duck fan, for me, panic is 100% required.
Ok, it’s “nervous” or “focus”, but it’s more fun to say “panic”.
As I drunk college student, I watched us go up by 35 points on Cal one year, only to lose the game. Same with basketball, I can’t remember the opponent, but I watched someone score 7 points on us in 5 seconds to steel a victory.
For the longest time, it’s been what we do. Comeback victories that seemed impossible, losses that just shouldn’t have happened. Great heights, great lows.
We may have arrived at consistency this year, we may arrive at true consistency over the next five years, but this fan will never relax until each and every final whistle.

2nd most yards allowed by USC in school history (613, only 10 behind a ND game in the 40s).

He had an hour to throw!
The day he gets any consistent pressure, he will suck!
When he got sacked, all he did was whine about wanting a facemask called etc…

I loved Herbstreit's reaction to that one hit
Where they wanted a facemask, which was basically, “Yeah, maybe it was but so what?”

Great win, Ducks. Of course, the media won’t give it enough respect, but great win nonetheless. Pac-10 will show up again during this bowl season.

Trojans smashed song
Set to the tune of "Monster Mash"
I was working in Autzen late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my Ducks from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise
The Trojans were smashed
The Ducks did the Trojan smash
The Trojanmash
It was a Oregon blast
Trojans were smashed
It caught on in a flash
Oregon had a blast because they did
the Trojan smash
From La Michael James on the toss weep
To the Masoli throw where Ed Dixon feasts
The Ducks all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from our cool uniforms
The Trojans were smashed
The Ducks did the Trojan smash
The Trojanmash
It was a Oregon blast
Trojans were smashed
It caught on in a flash
Oregon had a blast because they did
the Trojan smash

TO QUOTE JEREMIAH MASOLI>>>
The Oregon offense didn’t get a first down until the third quarter at Boise. It had 31 vs. the mighty Trojans.
“That’s just Oregon football,” Masoli said. “That’s how we roll.”

I think at some point
USC just said to themselves “How the hell is this happening to us?” and were simply in shock.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
My wife an I commented on this as much.
All the supposable “great” teams do this. They think they’re living in a different world when they get beat. As a Boise fan, I see this all the time (still love those OU-Fiesta fan shots). I love the Boise program because it’s the opposite. Always respect your opponent. If you get beat by a inferior, although better, team on the field, give them credit. This is why I hate coaches like Bob Stoops, June Jones, etc.
Also, big thanks to Chip Kelly on the Gameday crew cap. He really respected the Boise program and didn’t pull what those other “great” teams/coaches would do.

Congrats from a Bruin.
Keep it going, ducks! I’ve waited so long to see the SCum of the earth take a thorough beating. The amazing part is that when SC stops making the NCAA tons of money, they’ll finally ‘magically’ uncover all of the illegal ongoings in that program from the last 8 years and we’ll be seeing the ultimate fall of Troy. You guys have no idea how happy I’ll be to see the Oregon Ducks in Pasadena rather than the Toejams and Cheaty Petey. Good luck in getting to the BCS championship, but regardless, I think you have the Bruin fanbase rooting for you from hereon out.

"FOCUS LIKE A POO FLINGING MONKEY!"
We had our WAY with a completely demoralized USC unit,
We learned that they cannot face ANY adversity without rolling into the fetal position and giving up.
USC may not win their next game
"FOCUS LIKE A POO FLINGING MONKEY!"
Not true. They coped with Ohio State just fine. As a team, they just haven’t taken a beating like last night, I’d call it shock.
Did you see them after halftime? No fire! No drive! Demoralized!
Couldn’t handle being down
"FOCUS LIKE A POO FLINGING MONKEY!"
I watched the game to the bitter end, and indeed they did look bad – especially on defense.
You said “We learned that they cannot face ANY adversity without rolling into the fetal position and giving up.” That seemed like a blanket statement, and considering that SC came from behind to win at Ohio State, and managed to hold Notre Dame on 4 inside-the-10 attempts for a tying / win with a 2 point conversion series after picking daisies for the fourth quarter on defense, I don’t agree with such a blanket statement.
So just to be clear, I’m not saying that SC didn’t fold on defense last night. I am saying that they don’t go into the fetal position every time there’s a problem. And while I am not taking any of the remaining games for granted, I don’t see another team playing as well as the Ducks are at this point in the season.

Take a deep breath dude!!
If the Trojans are as great as you describe, you wont have to wait long to talk legitimate smack again. If they aren’t, you are going to look pretty pathetic (much more than you already do) in short time.
Yep, your team has been better in the past. Our team just beat whooped up on your team.
MOVE ON!! Quit being such a front-running feline. You’ll feel better down the road.
It wasn't the first time I'd been kicked in the cherries and called a rat by a woman, but it was the first time I didn't mind.

When do th AP rankings come out?
Because the humans are what is holding us back in the polls and I would like to see what they think.
by QuackQuackAttack on Nov 1, 2009 8:15 AM PDT reply actions
AP poll *really* doesn't matter
It is not used in the BCS formula, only the USA TODAY Coaches Poll is (out of the two).
The BCS Formula:
Coaches Poll (1/3) + Harris Poll (1/3) + func (6 computer polls)
Of which Coaches Poll and Harris Poll = complete garbage.
I Know
But It should give us a feel on how humans think, and the Harris and Coaches are human polls.
by QuackQuackAttack on Nov 1, 2009 8:59 AM PDT up reply actions
Stat geek needed. A lot of extra time required for the job.
We need someone who has a lot of time, or is so versed in the recent history of rankings to go back and find some examples of when a team has leap frogged a team they’ve lost to without said team losing themselves. A la jumping Boise St. I get so tired of pollsters’ attitude that Oregon can’t jump BSu without them losing. This makes no sense. Oregon is one of the best teams in the nation right now, but there are some morons out there who will not put them above BSu, even after last night. If anyone can find some data that shows it is not unrealistic for Oregon to jump them, please post it!!!
Well.
