Morning Quack Fix: FUMBLE!
I'm so ashamed. Like many Ducks before me, I fumbled the opening kick-off today.
I headed out to Spokane to see my wife and kids for the first time in 6 weeks, then completely spaced today's MQF. here are some quick links. I hope some of you will add other good stuff in the comments.
- Yeah, word on the street is they don't care much for Chip K. in Pullman this week. Here's George Schroeder's story. Frankly, don't they have more to be concerned with?
- More perspective on the LeGarrette Blount situation, this time from Oregon President Richard Lariviere.
- Rob Moseley writes about the coming of age for some of Oregon's young defensive backs. Some guys are seeing big playing time a little sooner than we probably anticipated.
- Jeff Smith of The Oregonian takes a good look at Nate Costa's long and painful journey to his first start for the Ducks.
- Weekend previews from Ken Goe and Mike Tokito.
- Please tell me it's not 2007 all over again. This just posted by Anne Peterson of the Associated Press: Knee could be worse than Oregon QB Masoli let on. Let's keep an eye out for MRI results today and hope for good news for Jeremiah.
Again, sorry for Coug'n it today. I promise it won't take half a decade and two, or maybe three, head coaches for me to get back to D-1 level (yeah, that's a jab at you, sourpuss Coug fan). Go Ducks!

PANIC! AGAIN! PANIC!

I support inroywetrust in his support of The VD Special in his support of me supporting Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.
That AP piece was very very bad. No facts at all. I am 95% sure that Masoli does not have a season ending injury.

I told you guys that the word on the street is that it is his ACL
… this is swirling among booster pools in a few different pac 10 venues.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
you made it to several different pac 10 venues?
well done.

yeah - that's why I called it a rumor earlier today and asked if any of you knew anything about it.
I never claimed to be dropping news…don’t shoot the messenger.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
Well, word out of Eugene...and not nameless Booster Venues
is that he has a bruise on his MCL. Not ACL. Big difference both in source of the information, and ramifications of the information. Don’t worry Gekko, Masoli will be ready for the dawgs…{smiles}
Hi, my name is Matt Daddy and I am a....
HUGE FREAKING DUCK FAN!!!!!!... "Hi Matt Daddy"
I hope so ...
… I’m actually a Costa optimist and think that he would be more effective in getting your weapons at receiver more involved. But that is just me.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
Ya but your argument earlier was that you were sure because he hadn’t had an MRI! PANIC! PANIC! PANIC!

Guy behind me at Autzen says "why do the fans yell 'OOO' when we are on D?" He then proceeds to yell "DEEEEEEEE" on every defensive play for the rest of the game. As Carlos Mencia would say, "Dee DeeDee".

I’m really really excited about our secondary, especially moving forward. Right now, there are no seniors playing, and if we’re honest with ourselves, 2010 was going to be the year we made a push, with a crazy amount of experience coming back.
It sucks to lose Thurmond for the season and Ward for a long period of time, but so far, their replacements have been stellar, especially Boyett. Luckily, we have only lost one starter at CB that started the season. Losing Jackson would have been a much larger blow than losing Glasper. It’s definitely been fun to watch the young on this team grow. Hopefully that can continue in hostile environments.

That's why losing Blount is not an all-together bad thing
Gets James and Barner some experience and sets us up for a big run next year.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
2010 - YUP
Possible Starters for 2010:
Offense:
QB – Masol
RB – L. James
WR – Jamere Holland / Lavasier Tuinei / Jeff Maehl / D.J. Davis / Garrett Embry / Blake Cantu / Diante Jackson / Tyrece Gaines
TE – David Paulson
O-Line – Bo Thran / Darrion Weems Carson York / Charlie Carmichael / Jordan Holmes / Max Forer / Mark Asper / C.E. Kaiser / Nick Cody
Defense:
DE – Kenny Rowe / Terrell Turner / Tyrell Irvin
DT – Brandon Bair / Zac Clark
LB – Eddie Pleasant / Casey Matthews / Spencer Paysinger / Bryson Littlejohn / Josh Kaddu
CB -Talmadge Jackson / Chad Peppars / Cliff Harris
Safety – John Boyett / Javes Lewis / Marvin Johnson
That is going to be a very experienced team. The injuries from this year could end up being a blessing in disguise next year because of all the experience these guys are going to gain.

You even left Malachi Lewis at TE.

I don't know, I think Oregon's best shots will come in odd-numbered years
With the round-robin schedule, Oregon has better odds (that’s a pun!) in 2009, 2011, 2013, etc.
The schedules for the odd-numbered years feature 5 home games in conference, vs. 4 home games in the even-numbered years. Also consider that USC, Cal and Oregon State are among the home games.
Given the schedule, I have a hard time believing the Ducks will have a better record in 2010 and 2012 than they will in 2009 and 2011.
Will Cal or OSU actually be any good next year? We also have WSU on the road, which sort of evens out the 5 and 4 thing.
We have a rising UW at home, Arizona (maybe on the rise), rising UCLA, rising Stanford. So the only really tough conference game on the road will be USC (I’m not worried about Reser after last year).
Also, we have New Mexico to start the season at home, which will be a good game before playing at Tennessee, which will be tough.
We will have some tough road games, but this Oregon team will have a ton of talent and experience returning.

OSU should be good next year. The lose Moevao/Canfield but almost everyone else comes back. Plus they have a favorable home schedule

Autzen Stadium is where great teams go to die." - J. Brady McCullough, The Michigan Daily.
Bruce Feldman on ESPN:
Oregon Ducks at UCLA Bruins (Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC)
The home team has won the previous three meetings. Problem here for UCLA: It may not have enough speed to contain the Ducks. I do like the UCLA D-line, led by the superb Brian Price, to dominate the Oregon front that had some trouble earlier in the season. The pick is UCLA 21, Oregon 13.
Dominate the the offensive line huh? We shall see…

um... if the d-line really ever had any trouble
it looks fixed now, just about the best performing element on the team right now

I think we play better from an underdog role
Exhibit A: Cal
I hate knee injuries.

exhibit B: Washington State

Dez Bryant
Not to start another moral debate here, but what do you think about the Dez Bryant situation. For those of you that don’t want to click the link, here’s a summary:
- Dez Bryant attended some function at Deion Sanders’ house during the offseason
- NCAA investigators asked him if he did, and he said no because he thought it was a violation.
- He found out it’s not a violation, and then came forward with the truth.
- The NCAA suspended him the remainder of the season for lying to investigators.
Most opinions I’ve read are saying that the punishment is too harsh. I think that punishment is too harsh as well, but I agree that he needs to be punished. The NCAA must make it clear that lying to investigators is unacceptable, but this would hurt this guy really bad. He’s going to be a high draft pick, and missing the rest of the season is going to cost him big.
I find it interesting that the consensus on this is that it’s not a big deal when a lot of what I read on the Blount situation was the opposite. Basically, lying isn’t a big deal, punching someone is. It’s like lying has become so commonplace in our society that it’s overlooked.
Guy behind me at Autzen says "why do the fans yell 'OOO' when we are on D?" He then proceeds to yell "DEEEEEEEE" on every defensive play for the rest of the game. As Carlos Mencia would say, "Dee DeeDee".

I think that it is weird...
Reminds me of Clinton/Lewinski, Clinton was not under impeachment trial because he had an affair-Rather he lied about it…After all, he still left office with the highest approval rating of any other president; kinda worked out for him…
Dez will still be a first rounder if he performs well at the combine.
I hate knee injuries.
The masses have spoken, Kevin Prince it is!
So he went to Sanders’ house under the impression that it was a violation to do so?
*bump* U!

That’s what I mean…he did something that he thought was wrong, then lied about. Now he realizes it was okay to do, so everyone is like “what’s the big deal he didn’t do anything wrong?” People don’t care that he did something he thought was a violation and then lied about it. It’s strange to me.

We’re just missing the larger point though. The NCAA can go eff itself.

I wuz out at practice again today (like anybody really gives a shit)
and I saw some interesting things and came to some resolutions.
Costa has got al the balls that Masoli has, all the quick, all the ball handling, better, more accurate long ball, & supreme confidence. Masolit has a little bit of the pirate which Nate lacks. Also be looking for some’interesting’ plays. Better record this game.
as long as you don’t call him a gunslinger.

I read on bleacherreport
Masoli has a sprained MCL.
On a entirely separate note the top 25 SportsCenter commercials
"I used to play sports. Then I realized you can buy trophies. Now I'm good at everything." - Demetri Martin
The “sprained MCL” diagnosis, which may be accurate, isn’t vouched for anywhere else. I’m a little wary about trusting an opinion piece from BR when no one else has confirmed that diagnosis.
