PrintI'll take the initiative and create a gameday open thread for the games leading up to this evening. Will Tennessee be affected by the arrests of 3 of their players? Or will Ole Miss finally show why they were ranked in the top 10 during the preseason? What's going to happen between Iowa and Ohio State? The Beavs play the fuskies at 12:30, and Arizona vs Cal is at 4:00 Pacific. Who's with me in rooting for Purdue and Utah today?

It’s amazing how the air has come out of the Duck fans balloon. There are TONS of tickets available for tonight’s game on various sites. AtQ is a ghost town. I do, however, feel like Chip will help the team break out of this fog.

The air is definitely out of the balloon for the casual fans now that our NC hopes are gone. I’m still excited about a Rose Bowl possibility…we just need to focus and take care of business.

Couldn’t agree more. Too much would have needed to happen to get to the NC game anyway. I was hoping for a Rose Bowl the whole time. The loss to Stanford may be just what the team needed. Given the preseason expectations, a Rose Bowl would be amazing. With most of the team returning next year, we can talk about NC next year if we win out and win a Rose Bowl.

Absolutely...
Of course, the schedule will be tough because we have to play at the Coliseum and the barkrats “stadium.” Still, there’s a lot of talent on this team. Can we just start playing football again in February next year? I don’t want to have to wait until Sept. again.

Feb through Aug is going to drag on, especially this year knowing how much talent we’ll have returning. The PAC 10 will be really strong next year, and I’d venture to say a 1-loss PAC 10 team could get a NC berth.
I think a lot of fans just don’t understand the significance of a Rose Bowl victory. It’s almost like USC’s recent run of dominating the Rose Bowl has made the casual fan not realize what a victory means.

Yep. I’m still excited as hell for these last 3 games. There is so much on the line. I want a Rose Bowl win so I don’t have to hear, “well if the Ducks were as good a program as it’s fans think, they’d have a recent Rose Bowl.”

And, let’s not forget, we get Stanford, UW, and Arizona at home. All teams that have played very well at home, and not so much on the road. And all those teams are on the rise.

Tennessee vs Ole Miss has been a good game so far. 14-14 in the 2nd quarter. I’m also watching because we play Tennessee next year. Ole Miss just made a 4th down conversion at the 50.

The PAC-10s TV is frickin paTHETic. SEC has CBS, ND has NBC, Big 10 has their own network, Big East and ACC get ABC/ESPN and we get whatever is left over and gawddamn Fox. The new commish needs to get a decent deal done.

True. Totally agree. At least the Ducks have been on ESPN/ABC a lot this year.
Watching Tenn’s defense, they are struggling bad with a quick back. LaMichael will eat them alive next year if they play the same way.

Chicago crew, reporting for duty
Hanging in Eugene this morning with blytle99, ntrebon and joffthedeckk.
We had a great time last night, starting with a homecooked dinner from ntrebon’s parents. We then caught the big Ducks win at Mac Court, followed by bar hopping downtown. The Starlight finally kicked us out at 2:15 PM.
Big breakfast and some morning football, and we’ll be ready to roll over to campus soon.
This weekend is off to a great start!
I will have to say that Purdue is now easily my favorite Big 10 team. I really like the guys from Hammer and Rails, and I like that Purdue doesn’t play a typical Big 10 offense. Plus, liking them has given me something to root for early on Saturday mornings

I don’t think it’ll happen. The PR is just horrendous. “Oh, I know! We’ll make them play without helmets, and then they’ll be forced to slow it down.” Plus, a lot of the draw of football is big hits. Your average fan doesn’t care at all about Masoli reading the backside DE. They care a lot about “Did you see what Masoli did to that Oklahoma State safety!?” And with the amount of “sell your body out for the team” in football culture today, I’m not sure that suddenly making them play without helmets would really result in a more rugby-like safety situation, at least initially.

That’s not even the biggest problem really. It’s just the constant hits, every single play. The big hits get all the hype, but they are the main culprit.

P.S. I hate referee "area of focus" penalties in any sport
if it’s a foul, or a penalty… call it, don’t put a special “area of focus” on certain penalties… it just leads to more questionable calls in the game

Workmanlike effort today. I normally panic, but not today. Go out there and take away their hope early and get the backups some reps in the 2nd half. Ya, I’m big into riding my quads and dirtbikes and have a lot of carbon fiber parts and a carbon fiber helmet. I really like the look of carbon fiber. I know the traditionalists want to puke if a uniform item isn’t a ‘school color’ but I think these helmets will look awesome. I’m assuming that like my riding helmet, the carbon fiber football helmet will me lighter and stonger at the same time.

It sounds absolutely silly, but they could have kicked the field goal there.
They were just talking about how in warmups their kicker made a 68-yarder. That would’ve been like 64 yards. That’s crazy to say, but hey, it would have been cool.

If they had it decided before that weird broken screen play, it would've been in the cards.
There were 35 seconds on the game clock when he was downed. It took about 18 seconds to get the play in, then 3 for Elliott to get sacked. Weird and disappointing ending to the game. I just love watching long field goals, especially with a kickoff specialist type.

They can’t protect their QB, and their defense, especially their secondary, is not good. Arizona can pass and run, protect their QB, and play good defense. Arizona is a better team than OSU.

In general terms, I’d like to see them in the PAC 10 cellar, and the other teams rise. However, the other teams haven’t been consistent. We lose our “quality win” the worse USC looks. Not that I care any more about BCS standings, but they do matter greatly because they influence the mindset (brainwash) of the rest of the country. It plays into where we stand in the pre-season polls next season.
And if you don’t get that you have to start high in the polls to overcome the idiotic rise/fall win/lose penalization of STUPID BCS voters, you haven’t been watching the BCS closely enough.
So I admit, I’m tempering my need to see USC die die die with the desire to have overall PAC 10 quality sustain itself in the eyes of the country so we can win the NC in 2010. YAY! Go 2010 DUCKS!!!!!!

I spent some time in the middle east, yes. I was a Drill Instructor as well and trained a lot of people that went. I was loving the beard (hadn’t shaved since the day after the BSU debacle) and was hoping to not shave til after New Years. We lost, so now it’s gone. It was starting to look like Ope on Sons of Anarchy.
Please promise me you don’t leave the stands with 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter and then come back 5 minutes into the 3rd quarter.
