I know I'm going to catch hell for this...
But it's true, most every Beaver fan will be rooting for the Ducks this weekend, myself included. Sure, there are other chances for Arizona to lose, but there is no counting on ASU, and who knows what USC is going to do. So, I figure the best thing to do is root for Oregon to whoop the crap out of Arizona.
But most importantly, (assuming Oregon and Oregon St take care of business of course), how awesome is it to have the Civil War determine who wins the Pac10, two years in a row no less! Although there would be no love lost if neither team was relevant, I have to admit that having the Pac10 be a nationally relevant rivalry game makes for a lot more fun. This game is likely to feature two of the best QBs in the conference, two of the best running backs, and two of the best defenses. I don't know about you, but I'm excited. (I really, REALLY hope that we don't lose to WSU. That would be bad in epic proportions).
So, without further ado, the moment you've all been waiting for, from one Beaver to you
GO DUCKS! And also, GO BEAVS!
Good luck this weekend, and see you December 3rd

If you can't beat the crap out of WSU
Like every other Pac-10 team has done, we NEVER want to hear you bragging about OSU again.
Just kidding, good luck to ya.

THE VD SPECIAL
Well, I’m hoping Wazzu beats Oregon State this Saturday but that will not happen. You guys will crush this terrible WSU team; these guys are really bad. Over at halftime. Than, Beaver fans can watch the Ducks and Wildcats battle in the desert.
I will admit, a Civil War for the Rose Bowl berth and chance to play Ohio St. in Pasadena is pretty cool. That would certianly garner national attention.
In the meantime, I think I’ll enjoy watching my Ducks on another ESPN Game Day set (again).

Is Mike Riley even going to let Quizz suit up this weekend?? i wouldnt even let him get on the plane.
It’s nice that the Ducks are helping the Beavs get some national exposure on ESPN.
I’ll be in Vegas for the Civil War. anyone take a guess on a line?
Life is about growth. People are not perfect when they're 21 years old. - Bill Walton
Where have you disappeared to this year, VD? I’m still rooting for the Beavers in every game except the Civil War. I know some Duck fans have a different view than me, but ever since I was in the Marines from 1996-2005 I’ve rooted for both teams so the state of Oregon looked good, but always the Ducks first and foremost. A CW where the winner goes to the Rose Bowl, especially being played on a Thursday night, will garner a ton of national attention. The fact that both teams have a bye week leading up to the game is only going to intensify the hype.

I root for the Ducks first
Then Oregon (so Oregon State)
Then Northwest (so Huskies over USC)
Then PAC 10 (So USC over Notre Dame and Big 10 And ess eeh see)
Then Western US over Eastern
Yeah, I know…sad

I use the same logic in determining who to root for EXCEPT Purdue. I have a soft spot for Purdue

I definitely have a different view
Possibly because I’m from SoCal, so all I know is the rivalry. No offense, VD, but I hope OSU loses every game it plays.

No offense taken
I hope that Oregon wins every non-conference game, for the sake of our conference, then loses every conference game.
My priorities:
1) Love OSU
2) Hate Oregon
In this case, rooting for Oregon (rather, rooting against Arizona) satisfies my first priority of loving OSU first

I guess I should clarifiy – I’m not into the rivalry enough to hope OSU loses games that would actually help Oregon if they won. For example, if an OSU win would get the Ducks into the Rose Bowl, there’s no way I wouldn’t root for OSU. So I agree with you there.
The non-conference stuff though…I still gain a measure of satisfaction when OSU loses non-conference stuff. And yes, I know that could affect Oregon’s SoS, but the chances are so remote that it has any real effect on a possible national championship berth, that I don’t mind.
Defending maligned chants since 2009
Yeah the more I thought about it, the more I agree about the non-conference games.
I guess I’d rather have Oregon win all their non-conf games and lose the conference ones, then lose their non-conference games and win a few conference ones. That just makes the conference look bad.
But no, I would not be disappointed if UO went 0-12 every year.

Wazzu beat a bowl team this year!
That should be enough evidence that the bowl system is retarded.

What amazes me more than a team going 0-12, is a team going 0-12 in today’s version of college football, with scholarship limits, etc. A school like UW, with its large campus, city atmosphere, good academics, big stadium, AND every advantage that any other team has, should NEVER go 0-12. That is what is truly pathetic.. You should at least win one game based off pure parity

Why do I get the feeling that my rooting priorities do not match those of Duck fandom in general?
by AllSaintsDay on Nov 18, 2009 4:36 PM PST up reply actions
Either way, what I've come to find out
Is Duck fans are very much split 50/50 in how they root
A lot of the older Duck fans will root for OSU in every game but the Civil War, and consider UW to be the “main” rival
A lot of the younger Duck fans will against OSU every game, and UW is a secondary rival (or for a lot of the kids who were Duck fans only since college recently, don’t really care about UW either way)

only know that 65-38 isn’t a rivalry at all… hehe

I freely admit that I’m a “Joey-Era Duck Fan”. Someone else mentioned rooting order but mine is as follows
1. Oregon
2. Oregon State
3. Pac-10 minus Washington
4. Purdue
5. Washington
6. Mountain West
7. Big 10
8. Most Everyone Else

Yeah, I’ve definitely noticed that. Initially after moving here the “hate OSU” and “like OSU, but still get crazy for the CW” were even, but since then I’ve noticed far more people in the latter category.
But I really meant beyond the Northwest. I’m more SEC fan than Pac-10 fan, despite being more UO fan than LSU fan. And while I would like even Washington to win 3 games most years (but less if they play LSU and/or ND), I always want Southern Cal to lose every game, ever.

Lucky for you guys that you have a bye week.
Whoops, I ,ean you have Wazzu. If you don’t win by 30; it should be considered a loss.

I actually like the idea of OSU’s starters not playing a competitive game for about two weeks heading into the Civil War. Let ‘em get a little rusty. Arizona won’t be easy, but that kind of opponent commands that the Ducks stay sharp and on top of their game. Would it really surprise anyone if the Beavs played a somewhat lackluster game in Pullman? They’ll blow ’em out, but it could be in somewhat sloppy fashion.
"...the noise is one aspect, but you can feel the intensity of their crowd." - Pete Carroll on Oregon's Autzen Stadium.
I would really like a sloppy OSU offense playing in the CW
considering Kelly’s offense averages like 50 points when he has more than one week to prepare for a team
Kenny Wheaton #20; The Pick - 1994 v UW. Matthew Harper #20; The Pick #2 - 2007 v USC. John Boyett #20;...
It would be really nice to see fundamentals hammered out in that bye week,
Assuming they have not been addressed and fixed this week (please Chip, PLEASE). I don’t know if I can bear another dropped pick six; or more cataclysmic failures in tackling that god damn sushi roll of a man.
Its just FOCUS!

Whoa, whoa, whoa!
We don’t want the Ducks to crush them. Just win by one on a last second Field Goal. Silly VD.
