I'll admit it, I'm afraid

The game this weekend scares me.  Partly for the reasons you are thinking (more on that later), but more importantly for the reasons you are not.

Sure, Oregon controls their own "Bowl That Shall Not Be Named (BTSNBN)" destiny, but so does Arizona.  In fact the only team in the entire wild west Pac 10 that controls it's own destiny other than Oregon, is Arizona, and they get to play at home!  Now this isn't Autzen Stadium domination home field comfort, but I think many will agree with me that Arizona Stadium is not a very friendly place for us to visit, lest we forget...

071116_dixon_hurt_470_medium

via media.katu.com

There are also more surreptitious reasons for me to be concerned.  On this very blog there was another misguided poll intimating that we fans might be more concerned about Oregon State than Arizona, very similar to before the Stanford game... Are we trying to upset Juju?  There has been a return of The Way We Were posts, also like before Stanford ... Are we tempting fate here?  And last but certainly not least, we have Beaver fans rooting for us!!!!... Is the world coming to an end?

I'm also worried there has been an uptick in the BTSNBN chatter, much like after we dismantled USC.  Columnists are writing about how Oregon has the inside track to the BTSNBN.  Oregon sports writers, radio jockeys, and fans are in a tizzy with the thought of the Civil War victor determining who goes to the BTSNBN.  Could we be overlooking the importance of this week's game?

Finally, for the obvious reasons to be afraid..

We need a poothrowingrabidmonkeytype focus. Yes.

Huge dickishness in posting that damn photograph. Not kind, dude, not kind. I really, really don’t want to see that photograph ever again. Never. Nevvvverrr.
Can we get a blanket ban on that at ATQ? Some lines we don’t want people to cross.

OK, that said, I completely agree with the rest of your post, matt daddy. You speak for me. I was just looking at the stats too, and was about to point out that they have better total offense and total defense than us.

Note, I believe we’re a better team, and should win. That doesn’t mean squat, as we all painfully know.

We won’t win another thing if we don’t really, really focus like a goddam poothrowing rabidmonkey. Laser-like focus. Tackle. Tackle, tackle tackle your asses off with laser-like focus. None of that sloppy mail-it-in crap I saw on my third rewind. God there was some sloppy stuff in the last game.

Yes, my panic engines are go for launch.

BTW that picture is an offering to Juju. If it struck, fear, panic, anger, or humility in you, then the sacrifice has done its job.

I know, I know, you guys think mostly that I'm fulla shit but it's mostly gas.

If anyone is going to get hurt in this game, they going to be wearing red panties.
This team is REALLY focused. Some balls are going to get busted. Early!
My sense is that if we win the toss, we’ll take defense.

I don’t think your eyes are brown. I love hearing your takes, personally. I think it would be best if Oregon were to take the ball first. The way the offense has been moving lately early in games I think it would be best to get the lead early and put Arizona on their heels early

If anyone else posts a picture of Dennis Dixon lying on the ground, limping around, etc.

So help me JuJu I am going to sick a genetically engineered Eddie Pleasant / Casey Mathews / Kenny Rowe Frankenstein on the lot.

What the hell is going on around here? Dixon lying on the ground?

On the ground?

We’re talking about the ground?

The ground?

Hmmm...

If you don’t think that Dom is gonna post the vid of either Dennis or Kellen going down for Media Wednesday, you’re kidding yourself.

Juju demands sacrifice, focus and PANIC.

At ATQ, you’ll get all three.

well....my take....

Arizona is a good team, but not substantively better than the O’s. The key to winning the game is to disrupt the quick passing game. Same as the key to beating Oregon. Keep your offense on the field, and theirs off.

We did that last week. We held the ball for almost the entire first quarter, and half of the second. Didn’t score a lot, but made them jumpy on offense.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but with Arizona’s loss, doesn’t OSU also have control of their own destiny?

This is the year for payback

Chip Kelly has been making sacrafices to the great juju all season in preperation for the next 2 games. This is going to be the year we go to Tucson and come back with a win, and all of our quarterbacks walking . We need to focus a little on getting juju on the side of the wazuu cougs for the weekend. Talk about a team that deserves a win ;) This weekend would be a great time for them since OSU is looking like a strong team and that win would look so much better than an apple cup victory. We’d could be rewarded by juju for the selflessness of the offerings asking for another teams victory, at least it sounds like a good idea.

by archytextural on Nov 18, 2009 10:20 AM PST reply actions

I am not afraid.

I am excited that once again the team has played well enough to be in this position. Even in the past 15 to 20 years of relative success, the Rose Bowl has been within reach a handful of times. Once we made it, a couple times we spit the bit, another time we kicked Colorado’s asses in the Fiesta Bowl because the roses were stolen from us.

Take a moment to recall the history lesson we were recently given here at ATQ. This already is a special season. Definitely a special team. It could get a lot better. Or, we could stumble. I’m not afraid of the Ducks stumbling. I’d rather be in this position and at risk of a little heartbreak than be a Husky fan these days.

Fellow ATQers, this is the good stuff. The fun times. So much, much better than the majority of Oregon seasons I’ve witnessed as a Duck fan. Find contentment with that fact that we’re rooting for a good team, which has an opportunity to be a great team. Success begets anxiety. Those fans who aren’t anxious at this point in the season cheer for teams who have nothing left to play for or for teams which have only Utah State, Nevada and New Mexico State remaining on their schedule.

Be at peace. Embrace the moment. Enjoy it.

Rec'd for IQ.

I saw the original ‘I Love My Ducks’ video and I cried tears of joy the first three or four times I watched it, twice with my 14 year old daughter (who goes to Sheldon.) With the BS U recovery, Coach Kelly’s BS cutting statements, people writing about how f’d up the SEC & the BcS are, James’ knee-shattering/ankle-popping, jaw-dropping runs, Go! Ducks! streaming across fuskie field, Masoli strolling into the end zone untouched, looking forward to and getting-to-see real defense being played, gorgeous uniforms and the anticipations thereof, Azzinaro’s spit a-flyin’, and sooooo much more, sheeessh guys, I thot I’d died and gone to heaven. I’ve already won, no matter what numbers appear on the scoreboard. Would I like to see the Ducks win out? You bet your sweet ass I would. And if they don’t? Juju’s in charge and it ain’t about sacrifice. Its about love.

by DONALDUCK on Nov 19, 2009 4:50 PM PST up reply actions

Hell, to me this season is a winner

even if we don’t win another game (which I really hope we win out, including whatever bowl game we go to) you have to admit that this is one hell of a first year for a new head coach. But I think Kelly, and the rest of the team want this to be the year that a new head coach takes his team as far as they can go. so while I still can’t say I smell roses just yet (and won’t until the final tick of the civil war) This is a special season, and juju has blessed us. Hopefully it continues through the end of the season.

This will be a tough one, no doubt

There are plenty of reasons to be nervous, but I’m also looking forward to it. This is what makes being a fan so great. Being able to live and die with your team in these games.

All that to say, PANIC!

Flagged. For obvious reasons.

I didn’t need the extra heartbreak this week, damnit. I already had to break up with my gf. I took one day to mourn it, and now I’m back to FOCUSING.

We are 10th in the PAC-10 in passing offense. It’s time to PANIC!
