Oregon 44, Arizona 41: Celebration Thread

It wasn't pretty.  And more than once I thought we were done.  But Jeremiah was brilliant when it counted, and we are one win away from smelling roses.

All hail the great Juju.

Postgame thoughts here.

Going back to Autzen

Pumped crowd, I’m excited to watch that one.

"Q: What would you say the loudest stadiums are? Corso: I think Autzen Stadium. Per person, the Oregon stadium is the loudest stadium I’ve ever been in. The fact that it’s so low to the ground doesn’t allow the sound to escape." Lee Corso, ESPN GameDay.

There were so many big plays like that, it’s a miracle the Ducks pulled off the win (which I’m very happy about as a Beaver who wants to see a Civil War game for the Rose Bowl ;-) )

The field goal that hit the crossbar, the Arizona fumble into the end zone, the fumbles that Oregon got back on top of… A lot of things sure went the right way! Then again that face mask penalty in OT was bull. Foles was grabbing mask first.

Good win to set up a good game. I say get the whole Ducks team a few beers tonight, and a few more right before the Civil War ;-D

I don't even know what to say

Defense stepped up when we needed them to
LMJ picked, picked picked his way to another great game
O-line was sporadic but they gave Masoli the time he needed
Special teams played solid
Maehl, how many HUGE catches did that guy make
Dickson, clutch baby, just clutch
Costa, you are a hero in my book
and last but not least…
Masoli, absolutely magnificent!!!! You just wrote a chapter in Oregon Football lore. I stand in amazement to how well you finished that game!!!

Congrats from a hard core Bruin

When you creamed the trOJies, I thought you guys should have a shot at one of the overrated SEC teams for the NC. Then came Stanford, and I still haven’t figured that one out. Now, down by a TD with not enough time left to possibly win, I figured that the way things were going, my Bruins might end up in the national championship game. (OK, that’s a stretch.)

But a great job by the Ducks, proving that the game is 60 minutes long, not 59 minutes and 50 seconds long. A great win for you guys, and you deserve it.

Oregon-Arizona: Overtime rare in Ducks history
By Jeff Smith, The Oregonian
November 21, 2009, 10:47PM
TUCSON, Ariz. – Saturday’s game marked just the 12th time in Oregon football history that the Ducks have gone to overtime. Every previous overtime game was under then-coach Mike Bellotti, who is now the Oregon athletic director. The Ducks are 8-4 all time in overtime games.

Before the Arizona win, Oregon’s last overtime game took place at Purdue in 2008. Trailing 20-3 in the second quarter, Oregon battled back and tied it 23-23 on a 44-yard field goal from Matt Evensen, then took a 26-23 lead on another field goal. Purdue tied the game again on a field goal of its own before Oregon ran in a three-yard touchdown for a 34-26 win.

The running back who scored? LeGarrette Blount.

Blount did not play Saturday.

Moseley Twittered that a cheerleader got hit by a projectile from the stands after the game and was taken to a local hospital.

Based on this and the QB injury checklist, can we reopen the rudest fan poll?

did anyone notice why LMJ had so few carries early and ended up getting enough late? Stoops change his D or did Masoli just start giving it no matter what? can’t believe we get to watch LMJ for 3 more years…lucky

I’m really not sure what happened with that. I was surprised with the lack of LMJ carries early. I assume Kelly knew what he was doing…but I cant help but wonder why LMJ was nearly a no show.

by DucktheViking on Nov 21, 2009 10:46 PM PST up reply actions

I dont think its a coincidence that our offense took off once LMJ came back into the mix.

by DucktheViking on Nov 21, 2009 10:47 PM PST up reply actions

I think Kelly

obviously didn’t like what Arizona was showing him on Defense. Run game was pretty ineffective until Masoli was able to get in a throwing rhythm late in the game, then the run opened up.

by kolson82 on Nov 21, 2009 10:48 PM PST up reply actions

Fans throwing stuff

is the dumbest thing in sports, but it happens in at a lot of college games. I’ve seen it a few times at Autzen…a few years ago against Fresno and UCLA I witnessed in the student section people throwing water bottles at male cheerleaders. Dumb. Hopefully the girl who got hit tonight is okay. More karma for ‘Zona…they’ll lose their final two games and Stoopsy is shown the door.

i know the defense dictates where we attack but our playcalling was quite odd for the first 3 qtrs. now the Wizard has a week and a half to work in the lab.

ya, masoli wasnt as “tricky” as normal. His reads seemed more obvious. And when he ran, he trucked it with the whole defense hunting him down.

I was at the Blazer game tonight

And three observations:

1. I was among about ten people in the three rows around me listening to the game on the radio.
2. The crowd went nuts when they posted Oregon 44, Arizona 41.
3. The crowd broke out into a chant of ’Let’s go Ducks" when they showed the final play. Then about half sang along with the UO fight song, which they played over the speakers.

Holy sh-t that was cool.

Nice...

My brother was there, too…also listening to the game on his radio, hehe. When I saw the score of the Blazer game on the bottom of the Duck game I wondered how many people in the RG were paying more attention to the Duck game.

They cheered not when they put the play up

But when they put the SCORE up on one of the two out of town scoreboards. Which tells you how many were watching them.

true grit

And the rest of the nation saw what this group is made of. That long TD run right near
game’s end would’ve broke the back of a lesser team. No weak nerve as they stared
certain defeat right in the eye!
Character win indeed. And what a confidence booster as well. Could not have come
at better time and place.

Passing 284 314
Rushing 175 127

Woke up still thinking of game. CLUTCH. From the Talmadge interception in the end zone going forward, CK had a total handle on the game. Excellent execution.
Eventhough Cats had our running game slowed down and forced us to go pass, Masoli eventually loosened them up to be able to have LMJ succeed.
Everyone played hard, no let up. Amazing

OK Beav’s now you have what you wished for. The Ducks.

by WAduck on Nov 22, 2009 7:55 AM PST reply actions

That extra point save by Costa

Was so critical, Ultra-clutch if you will, and Morgan Flint hesitating for just an instant then still hitting it after the rhythm was disrupted… Amazing.

The Talmadge interception another amazing play that we absolutely needed… Amazing

How about Jeff Maehl ALL NIGHT LONG that guy has such great hands, he was… Amazing

Big Ed Dickson and Lamichael James… Bottled up pretty well for most of the night but coming through with the huge plays at the end… Amazing

That fourth quarter was the greatest fourth quarter of Oregon Football since Oklahoma at Autzen, maybe better… Amazing

Civil War of the Roses.. Who could ask for anything more?… Amazing

Go Ducks! Beat the Beavers!

+1 on Costa/Flint

I was finally able to see the highlights and had no idea how clutch Costa was. Major props to him and Flint for getting it done.
