Early thoughts on the CW 09 (AKA Armageddon)

Because it's only the biggest damn CW of our lives, and possibly one of the most important games we'll play if it gets us to the Rose Bowl, I figured I'd start the panic and the focus early.

For a start, we need a name for the game. We can't overhype this enough. I'm proposing "Armageddon". I'm open to any better alternative as I've given this all of four microseconds thought so far. I'll add some others below.

Next, lessons learned from the past few games. Here's my wishlist.

Star-divide

  1. Burn those white pants, please. Never wear them again. Oregon should wear green or black (preferably black) pants every remaining game.
  2. Clean the butter off those hands (Masoli, looking at you). No fumbles, please. No damn turnovers. We will not beat the Beavers with sloppy play.
  3. Sorry, but you don't get any quarters off in this game. This will take 60 full minutes of intense, focussed football, as superbly as we can play it.
  4. No avoidable penalties, please (TJ, looking at you). No taunting, no celebrations, no idiocy. Just play the damn game and celebrate afterwards if you win. No intentional facemasks. Keep your head in the game.
  5. Can we get our snapping problems sorted out, please? Only a miraculous play from Costa and Flint saved a crucial extra point to keep us in the game from going awry. And that's not counting all the blown plays with high snaps to Masoli.
  6. No flapping. Unflappable play, 60 minutes, no matter what the situation is.
  7. Get LMJ into the game early. If we don't find a way to balance the attack, we make it much harder on ourselves.
  8. No stupid pre-rushing of field. (I don't think I need to say it to anyone in Autzen, but just in case). It ain't over till it's over. No pre-assuming, no hubris, no silly arrogance about how we have it in the bag, even if we _are_ up by 40.
  9. Please, Autzen and Eugene crowds, please please behave decently. No throwing stuff, no beating up of or throwing things at OSU fans, let's just show some class. Because the country will be watching.
  10. FOCUS! and PANIC!!!!
  11. Win, please, please, please, please, please. Let's win this one...
  12. ALL HAIL JUJU!! [Updated]

This is going to be the longest 261.75 hours ever. You thought the waiting and build-up to the USC game took forever?

While I am happy Oregon has some extra days to prepare between now and the CW I know I am going to get absolutely nothing accomplished between now and Dec 3rd. I might as well take 10 vacation days.

This year, both teams healthy, both teams with extra time to prepare, winner goes to the grand daddy of them all… I could not be more excited for a game, ever!!!

I’m very glad that Thanksgiving falls in the middle of all this. I can simply think about food for 4 straight days.

Hmm, good point.

I will think about how to prepare Beaver instead of Turkey this Thanksgiving.

I will spend the next 10 days devising diabolical methods of annoyance.

First stop will be Craft World to buy out all the green/black/yellow crepe paper they have.

If it’s possible to mummify an entire 42U server rack, it will be done, juju be praised.

It was nice to hear

Dick Enberg and Dan Fouts bring up the Civil War today during the Chargers-Broncos game. Enberg gave an enthusiastic “Go Ducks!” after talking about the win over Arizona.

May we hand you your taints on a silver platter...

Here's a novel idea...

Let’s just call it what it is…The Civil (Stinkin) War. Go ahead and try to reinvent the wheel all you want, but I’m going to do the same thing I do for every game…wear the Ducks hoodie, wear the Ducks scarf, hold the Ducks flag, and laugh my ass off at the johnny-come-latelys who try to make something that is already perfect, better somehow.

I say you cross out everything on that damn list and just leave it to the almighty powers of JuJu!

PRAISE JUJU !!!

Sorry, you lost me at the scarf. I just can’t take men in scarves seriously. (Full disclosure: I live in Southern California and keep a ski parka and thermal underwear around in case the temperature drops below 50)

You're not sure where?

Too drunk to remember how you got it? Just woke up and you had a new scarf?

Little known fact...

Beavers eat their own excrement. Look it up.

What do we set the over/under for yards gained by Oregon? 700?

So, how is it that one brother is named "James", and the next one "Jacquizz"?
Anyways, based on the picture; they look as if they have a relationship thats a little too comfortable.

13. And since this is the last home game this year, the biggest CW in the history
of it, national audience, for ONCE this season, just STAY in the stadium for
the 20 min. halftime? So you can actually BE THERE for the 2nd half kickoff?
