Phil Steele's pre-season predictions
From his Aug 10, 2009 overrated/underrated teams post. I doubt I have to tell anyone here which category he puts the Ducks in.
"Teams that are in the Top 25 that I feel will not be ranked at the end of the year.
Oregon – The Ducks have just 9 returning starters and have only 1 returning starter on the offensive line and just one on the defensive line. They lost THREE 2nd round draft picks and their head coach Mike Bellotti. Since Chip Kelley took over just before the spring they got rid of a few coaches and I have 7 players from my projected two deep that are circled (no longer with team). They only had 8 starts lost last year due to injury and probably wont be as fortunate. They play Cal and USC at home and Cal has won 3 in a row vs the Ducks and have a large edge in the trenches in that game. They also play Boise St, UCLA, Stanford and Arizona on the road."
Good prediction, Phil.

Also, I just read the 2 paragraphs above the Ducks paragraph. Cal and Notre Dame will end up in the top 10. 3 for 3, batting 1.000!

The ONE time this year he picked Oregon..
.. was vs Stanford.
Even then he only had the Ducks winning by one point, so it was as close to not picking Oregon as possible.
Steele is very objective and relies a LOT on his own statistical analysis. There’s not a lot of “gut feeling” in his picks. The problem is that he relies a lot on data from previous seasons.
Sometimes this works out for him. In ’07 he had Oregon as a surprise team in his preseason guide based on the number of returnees, seniors, and — one of his statistical measures — performance in close games in ’06.
But sometimes a team comes out of nowhere and proves that there are no reliable formulas available for predicting future results based on past performance.. not in the stock market, and certainly not in athletics. I think that’s why he missed Oregon this year, not because he’s some kind of hater.
In general, though, Steele’s overall predictive record stands up pretty well against any of the big national pubs, and better than most.
those who do not remember history should read my blog...
More please Phillip, keep up the good work.

So, how is it that one brother is named "James", and the next one "Jacquizz"?
Anyways, based on the picture; they look as if they have a relationship thats a little too comfortable.
Indeed.
Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

Its not his original predictions that bothered me
there was some logic to it that is going to be true in a number of cases.
Its his failure to acknowledge that he was wrong and adjust accordingly that makes him look like a douchebag. Its okay, just pick against us one more week.
