Well,
Looks like we will really find out what our defensive coaching staff is made of.
ASU may be a somewhat defensive game; their defense played great against USC.
TOBY, Toby Gerhart...THE Toby Gerhart? I formally welcome your presence.
We appreciate all of your needed contributions Juju! WE LOVE YOU

you put up 42 points you should win the game
Defensive gameplan was way off. Ahhh this one hurts. If only they didnt hit the last field goal…Masoli was 21 for 37 for 334 yards and three touchdowns. He added 55 yards and a score on the ground. bah.
"That's just Oregon football," Masoli said. "That's how we roll."

I'm leaving this here instead of as a fanpost for the 24 hour rule...and I don't want to look at it all week
Dear Mr. Aliotti
You embarassed yourself Saturday. “For whatever reason?” “For whatever reason?” Seriously? If I took a poll from all Duck fans before the game and said, “If Oregon is going to lose to Stanford, what do you think would be the reason?” I guarantee you a vast majority would say Toby Freakin Gerhart!!!! What game plan did you have for him? Because from the display on the field it looked like none.
Secondly, what adjustments did you have in store if he started to dominate you? Once again, evidence would say none. Go to a goal line D. Put 5 D lineman in. Do a blitz that doesn’t involve Ward off the edges when you’re getting killed up the middle. Do something instead of letting your linebackers get eaten up time after time by O-lineman at the second level. I am ashamed of how you let your guys on the field down. Period end of story.
For whatever reason. HA!! Aliotti, you were that reason. I can live with a dominant D shutting down our O. I can live with guys having a bad day on the field. I can also live with guys on the other team making spectacular plays. But to not have a game plan for their #1 threat… inexcusable.
Your non-existent game plan for Gerhart was that reason. We can point fingers at the special teams. We can talk about how good Luck looked. We can complain about calls. But if you do something to stop Gerhart, none of that matters. Your game plan was garbage, and the reasons begin and end with you.
Sincerely,
Disgruntled Duck Fan

At some point, it becomes less about scheme and more about execution and I just don’t agree with your assessment on Nick’s gameplan. We were getting blown off the line all day. Guys were In position several times and just couldn’t make a play. Stanford was extremely balanced and Gerhart’s talent was a large component of that. We got exposed by an offensive line and power sets who were routinely getting their back to the second level. Luck also was able to make the throws to beat the zone and their receivers made good plays against good coverage.
It’s easy to pick on the d-coordinator when things go badly but at some point, the players on the field have to be the ones to make plays. Stanford was the better team that day.

I’ve been a huge supporter of Aliotti all season, and I will never underestimate the importance of execution. But I did not see ANY adjustment to what Stanford was doing.
Are the players accountable too? Sure. But do I think they were put into a position to win? Not really. It was Old Aliotti all over again. Stanford ran the same power I, pulling guard formation about 4 times in a row in the second half, and I did not see, one different defensive substitution or different line up to try and stop it.
Lewis was getting killed at the corner position (BTW, he’s not a corner too)… where was Cliff Harris? Why are we in Nickel formation on 3rd and short when they have their power formation in? These are not execution questions, these are coaching questions.
Sure we got out-played… but worst of all we got out coached.

I honestly don’t think we were really outcoached.
Stanford executed, we did not. Boyett had a terrible game. Our line could get no pressure, our linebackers were being taken out by fullbacks. (Harris played much more after the first quarter, but by that point, Stanford was running more).
We can talk all we want about how a certain play was working, but Stanford forced us to pick our poison early by passing the ball. Our secondary was doing a poor job covering, and the front 7 couldn’t get pressure.
The Oregon coaching staff and players definitely reacted to Stanford’s early gameplan, but when an offense is clicking like that and executing and forcing a defense on their heels, there’s not much that you can do.

We did nothing to make them one-dimensional. We stayed in our base almost the entire game. Once again, at some point the guys need to make plays, and Oregon never did.
I don’t want to take anything away from what Stanford did. They played hard, executed their plays and beat us. That’s not what I am saying. I didn’t see us (coaches and players) do anything to try and make them react.
I guess you’re sort of making my point. If we lose that game because Luck goes 35-40 with 450 yards passing… fine, their second option beat us. But we didn’t make their second option beat us… we let them set up their first option and beat us with that. How can you let that happen. Last week against USC, we made Barkley beat us. we loaded up on the run and said freshman, beat us. he couldn’t. we made them react. Against Stanford, we didn’t do that. We let them run their gameplan, and didn’t make them react.

Feel your pain,.....but
There were lots of formations where we had 9 or 10 guys in the box. Then Luck drilled us deep for 40 yards. I admit I have been a critic of Allioti in the past. But I believe this was more about match-ups than scheme.
Our entire defensive philosphy for the year, that we have all loved until now was.. “Gimme two big run stoppers and 9 guys that can run like hell” … Need to be built different than that to stop Stanford.
If they had only had Gearhart we beat them. If they had only Luck, we beat them. Gearhart and Luck = bad match-up…. we lost.
Just look when they put in the back-up RB, mostly they got nothing when he was in.
That offense is built to beat our defensive set-up. Their RB and FB are as big as our DT’s.
But still, I agree with you. It sucked.

I'm not quite this mad, but I am annoyed with the explanation in the video.
The “for whatever reason”… and other commentary without substance, as if he has no idea what the reasons are we were getting beat.
Maybe he’s just trying to get through an interview and then goes back and is an uber-intelligent mastermind behind the scenes, but that interview (and others) make him appear to have no explanation or analysis of what’s happening.
Moving on now, just seems like he might have had a few more analytical thoughts in the noggin about what we tried to do but just couldn’t get done.

I swear, Azzinaro must have passed away before this game.
The only logical conclusion I can muster forth.
If he was even alive to witness the Stanford game, that for sure killed him…

I get it that some are upset, but true, a nightmarish/perfect storm match-up. Ok, so
the D had trouble answering the call in this game. But, with the exception of Purdue
our D has been pretty damn good. We held BSU to less than 20 points on their turf.
Hey, Stanford was the fly in the ointment, the monkey in the wrench, whatever you want
to call it. Give stanford their due, and we move on. Oregon will bounce back big after
this. That includes all 3 remaining games in league play, too.
