Quack Fix: One Game For All The Roses
What a long strange trip it's been. Now we count down the hours until the granddaddy Civil War of them all.
- Though there's little more to be said, Rob Moseley reminds us that everything is on the line for the Ducks and Beavers tonight.
- Rob is predicting another high scoring affair. ESPN's Ted Miller has his pick in as well.
- Ken Woody breaks down some critical Xs and Os heading into the Civil War.
- Jason Vondersmith takes an in-depth look at Chip Kelly's approach to his first year as head coach of the Ducks. Winning the day isn't just a slogan any more for Ducks players, it's a habit.
- Congratulations to Oregon players David Paulson and Carson York. Both were named to the Pac-10's academic first team.
- Also, yay for the Ducks women's basketball team. They notched another win, 95-68 over University of Portland. Those ladies can certainly score some points.
I'll be winning the work day til about 1 p.m., then it's off to Autzen. I'll see a few of you at the tailgate. Any of you ATQers who want to say hi to guys like JShufelt, dvieira, qrsouther or myself, just head down the path that follows the millrace from the small bridge towards the Science Factory building, we're just past the spillway. Yell out "ATQ" a few times and we'll find you.
Here's to an EPIC finish to an amazing season. Go Ducks!

GO DUCKS!
I listened to the fight song before work this morning. I’m pumped up (and incredibly unproductive)!

Me too: Twice each for the locker room version and the Ducks marching band and then...
two rounds of I Love My Ducks. and tears somehow escaped my eyes with each effort.
My comment of the morning
This is the fourth time this season Oregon has faced what was then the leading rush defense in the league.
Emphasis mine. The implication there is that none of the previous three are the leading rush defense in the league AFTER having faced Oregon. Coincidence? I think not.
Defending maligned chants since 2009
OSU’s rushing defense numbers are wildly inflated, as even honest Beav fans realize.

Yep. I remember everyone talking about that before ASU. They had the #1 run defense and after playing us dropped to #4.

Troy Hill
Also, Greg Biggins has the latest on DB recruit Troy Hill, who just returned from a visit at UW. Hill will reportedly be deciding as early as next week between Oregon, UW and Arizona. Hill is rated as a 3 star recruit by both Rivals and Scout.
Hill will be a big pickup for the Ducks. Though he’s rated as a 3-star, he is one of the top targets for the Duck secondary. After what Neal has done with other 3-star players, I really hope he goes to Oregon.

He may have pulled off 5 star status. I remember him shining in all of the obligatory camps recruits go through

So, how is it that one brother is named "James", and the next one "Jacquizz"?
Anyways, based on the picture; they look as if they have a relationship thats a little too comfortable.
So...
…the Beavers and their fans look at this game as a chance of redemption and to return the favor of knocking us out of the Rose Bowl. However, I look at this game as a second consecutive season that our Ducks can eliminate the Beavers from the Rose Bowl. I can’t wait! GO DUCKS!!!
A more effective method would be a call/response pair of words, like PANIC/FOCUS

So on SC this morning
McShay and Kiper talked about the CW early on in the hour, nice little secment. Then twenty min later they are set to talk about the SEC, but first a Gladiator esque epic montage with a ridiculous sound track. Come on man. Gooooo west coast.
Can I get a Gooo Ducks?!
To be fair
The SEC champ game IS for a berth in the NCG. And it is between two undefeated teams. You don’t have to convince ME that east coast bias is alive and well, but in this case, I can understand why there would be significantly more hype for that game.

I LOL'ed at this line from building the dam
The big thing that stands out that James and Masoli have a combined total of 23 touchdowns. What this also shows you is that Masoli seems to run just a little bit more once they get on the other side of the 50 yard line. The other stat that isn’t shown here is that James leads all FBS players with 18 runs over 20 yards. Still, nothing to be too worried about.
“Yeah, so their quarterback and running back have combined for nearly 2,000 yards and 23 touchdowns…and the running back has been the biggest of big-play threats of any runner in the country….but nothing worrisome here, carry on fellow Beavers!”
Avoiding total non sequitors is clearly a graduate-level class.

Here’s a rather absurd quote from Keaton Kristic.
At Autzen Stadium there’s a constant hum. It’s the noise. You just have to block it out. It isn’t that big of a deal for the defense. You can still hear, but it gets pretty loud, probably about as loud as Reser Stadium at its loudest.
I also love the fact that the Beavs are gonna have to play “disciplined” to beat the Ducks, something their defensive leader has absolutely sucked at his entire career.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
That makes about as much sense
As Pete Caroll did when he said Autzen didn’t impact their play this year.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
He’s right though. For the Beavers defense it won’t be loud. It’s loud when the Beavers offense is on the field. At least I think that’s what he’s saying. Crowd noise shouldn’t be a factor for the Beavers defense in my opinion.
He can run, he can pass, he is sicker than e-coli. Jeremiah always keeps things rolling.

is he saying that in between plays when Autzen is just humming it is as loud as Reser?

He’s saying Reser at its loudest is the same as when Autzen when the Ducks are on offense. So, Duck fans talking is the same as Beaver fans yelling at the top of their lungs. Makes sense.

Know what's funny
I have seen absolutely NO ONE question this week whether ot not Blount will see action tonight… guess people finally got the message that it was a human decision.
Kenny Wheaton #20; The Pick - 1994 v UW. Matthew Harper #20; The Pick #2 - 2007 v USC. John Boyett #20;...
What’s even more funny is that I just saw that EXACT question (will Blount play tonight) in a chat with Ted Miller over at ESPN.
Miller doesn’t think so and I’d agree with him. I just wonder how much it’s affected Blount; the guy clearly wants to get back out there.

If he plays
It will be because we’re kicking some Beaver ass…
I’ll never forget though how ESPN got “punked” into showing the ASU game this year thinking Blount would play. Ha, ha idiots.

The road to Pasadena goes through Autzen Stadium. Go Ducks!
In formal poll question:
If Oregon wins the toss, do they take the ball or play defense first?
Same question for OSU
Does OSU put their D out first or try and move the ball and quiet Autzen?
Kenny Wheaton #20; The Pick - 1994 v UW. Matthew Harper #20; The Pick #2 - 2007 v USC. John Boyett #20;...
Oregon always defers
And I would too. I’d rather have the ball at the start of the 3rd. That way we can get a score coming out of the half (which we usually do).
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
And we don’t have to play defense to start the half, when most “fans” aren’t back to their seat yet.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
But seriously, look at the UW and USC games
In both cases we really sealed the game the first possession of the second half.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Isn’t it almost always tactically better to defer? I know there are a zillion intangibles that can affect it, but I don’t know if any of them outweigh the tactical advantage of having the ball to begin the second half.
Plus, even if OSU takes the ball first, it gives the Autzen crowd the chance to yell and help the defense. A defensive stop on the first series might get people just as pumped up as a score.
Defending maligned chants since 2009
Harbaugh and Stanford almost always take the ball first. That way they can get their ST stud Owusu out there to help them pick up some quick cheap yards.
My thinking is that OSU might try to do the same thing with James Rodgers.
Kenny Wheaton #20; The Pick - 1994 v UW. Matthew Harper #20; The Pick #2 - 2007 v USC. John Boyett #20;...
I think Oregon will be happy to take the ball to start the second half. I mean, Barner’s no pushover back there either, but ST yards in the second half are just as valuable (if not more) than they are in the first half.
