Quack Fix: One Game For All The Roses

What a long strange trip it's been. Now we count down the hours until the granddaddy Civil War of them all.

I'll be winning the work day til about 1 p.m., then it's off to Autzen. I'll see a few of you at the tailgate. Any of you ATQers who want to say hi to guys like JShufelt, dvieira, qrsouther or myself, just head down the path that follows the millrace from the small bridge towards the Science Factory building, we're just past the spillway. Yell out "ATQ" a few times and we'll find you.

Here's to an EPIC finish to an amazing season. Go Ducks!

I listened to the fight song before work this morning. I’m pumped up (and incredibly unproductive)!

My comment of the morning

This is the fourth time this season Oregon has faced what was then the leading rush defense in the league.

Emphasis mine. The implication there is that none of the previous three are the leading rush defense in the league AFTER having faced Oregon. Coincidence? I think not.

Troy Hill

Also, Greg Biggins has the latest on DB recruit Troy Hill, who just returned from a visit at UW. Hill will reportedly be deciding as early as next week between Oregon, UW and Arizona. Hill is rated as a 3 star recruit by both Rivals and Scout.

Hill will be a big pickup for the Ducks. Though he’s rated as a 3-star, he is one of the top targets for the Duck secondary. After what Neal has done with other 3-star players, I really hope he goes to Oregon.

…the Beavers and their fans look at this game as a chance of redemption and to return the favor of knocking us out of the Rose Bowl. However, I look at this game as a second consecutive season that our Ducks can eliminate the Beavers from the Rose Bowl. I can’t wait! GO DUCKS!!!

To be fair

The SEC champ game IS for a berth in the NCG. And it is between two undefeated teams. You don’t have to convince ME that east coast bias is alive and well, but in this case, I can understand why there would be significantly more hype for that game.

I LOL'ed at this line from building the dam
The big thing that stands out that James and Masoli have a combined total of 23 touchdowns. What this also shows you is that Masoli seems to run just a little bit more once they get on the other side of the 50 yard line. The other stat that isn’t shown here is that James leads all FBS players with 18 runs over 20 yards. Still, nothing to be too worried about.

“Yeah, so their quarterback and running back have combined for nearly 2,000 yards and 23 touchdowns…and the running back has been the biggest of big-play threats of any runner in the country….but nothing worrisome here, carry on fellow Beavers!”

Avoiding total non sequitors is clearly a graduate-level class.

Here’s a rather absurd quote from Keaton Kristic.

At Autzen Stadium there’s a constant hum. It’s the noise. You just have to block it out. It isn’t that big of a deal for the defense. You can still hear, but it gets pretty loud, probably about as loud as Reser Stadium at its loudest.

I also love the fact that the Beavs are gonna have to play “disciplined” to beat the Ducks, something their defensive leader has absolutely sucked at his entire career.

--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog

by jtlight on Dec 3, 2009 10:55 AM PST reply actions

That makes about as much sense

by skywaker9 on Dec 3, 2009 11:02 AM PST up reply actions

He’s right though. For the Beavers defense it won’t be loud. It’s loud when the Beavers offense is on the field. At least I think that’s what he’s saying. Crowd noise shouldn’t be a factor for the Beavers defense in my opinion.

He can run, he can pass, he is sicker than e-coli. Jeremiah always keeps things rolling.

Oregon always defers

And I would too. I’d rather have the ball at the start of the 3rd. That way we can get a score coming out of the half (which we usually do).

Isn’t it almost always tactically better to defer? I know there are a zillion intangibles that can affect it, but I don’t know if any of them outweigh the tactical advantage of having the ball to begin the second half.

Plus, even if OSU takes the ball first, it gives the Autzen crowd the chance to yell and help the defense. A defensive stop on the first series might get people just as pumped up as a score.

Harbaugh and Stanford almost always take the ball first. That way they can get their ST stud Owusu out there to help them pick up some quick cheap yards.

My thinking is that OSU might try to do the same thing with James Rodgers.

I think Oregon will be happy to take the ball to start the second half. I mean, Barner’s no pushover back there either, but ST yards in the second half are just as valuable (if not more) than they are in the first half.

Orson Swindle Factor FIVE’S the Civil War

Welcome to our Factor Five Five Factor Preview of Oregon State at Oregon. The Factor Five Five Factor Preview examines the Thursday Night Game, which this week takes even more epic positioning amidst the Thursday Night Specials of seasons past by being the default Pac-10 title game AND a bitter rivalry game. Oregon State pulls into Autzen Stadium, aka "The Little Box O’ Hell." We’re hiring champions, gentlemen, but there’s only one position available.

I loved the mascot write-up. Sums up exactly how I feel about the Duck.

It's spelled "T-a-k-i-D-O-N-A-L-D-3-0-0-0"

I support inroywetrust in his support of The VD Special in his support of me supporting Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

Its been three months since the darkest day I can ever remember as an Oregon fan

Praise be to Juju we can make this perhaps the most memorable season I’ve ever watched Oregon play.

FOUR MORE HOURS

And counting.

…within the capacity of production, whereby the company’s third quarter profits could increase as a result of…

Oh, sorry, the boss walked by and I thought I alt+tabbed.

Only about 90 minutes til I can get out of here

The best thing about this game is that it WILL be over, period, one way or the other, today (unless we play about 25 OTs in which case maybe tomorrow).

If it goes 25 OT’s, my heart will have exploded well before midnight.

No it won't

You’re an Oregon fan, if you survived the Harrington years that wouldn’t even have you breathing hard. :-)

That’s true. I became a fan of the Ducks during the Joey years, so I had plenty of practice with nailbiters.

BEERS!

Whats everybody drinking today!?

"That's just Oregon football," Masoli said. "That's how we roll."

I’m going to down a Rogue Santa’s Private Reserve to get warmed up before the game, and then it’s nothing but Jujubelale once the game starts.

What are people eating? My folks are coming over to watch the game and we’ve got jambalaya and rice going on (jambalaya sounds too much like Jeremiah not to eat it).

That jambalaya sounds just amazing. I am jealous.

by jtlight on Dec 3, 2009 3:22 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, my wife makes a mean jambalaya – tomatoes, green, yellow, red peppers, Louisiana hot links, shrimp, shredded chicken, it’s pretty damn good.

Hey, IF (see Juju? I’m being good!) we can win this one, I’ll bring some to a (potential) Rose Bowl tailgate.

That sounds good.

Yet another incentive to win this one!!!

Juju, you complete me...And now as your humble-as-ever servant, I kindly request the following:

So, how is it that one brother is named "James", and the next one "Jacquizz"?
Anyways, based on the picture; they look as if they have a relationship thats a little too comfortable.

The usual – Drop Top.

He can run, he can pass, he is sicker than e-coli. Jeremiah always keeps things rolling.

I had two 22’s for good Juju, 8 Ball Stout for our boy Masoli, and Laurelwood’s Prevale. And prevail we did.
