Power Rankings: Men's Hoops Week 6
Another week, another set of power rankings. USC made the biggest shift in the rankings but they only played one game. Obviously the voters were not impressed with how the Trojans lost. Click the jump to find out more in this week's power rankings.
| Rank (lw) | Votes | Team | Conf | Overall | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 (1) | 27 | UCLA | 8-2 | 19-4 | Think those losses to ASU and UW got the Bruins attention? They have been blowing out people ever since. |
| 2 (2) | 24 | Washington | 8-3 | 17-6 | The Huskies escape Stanford and get beat up bad against Cal but still maintain their ranking? Too many votes hanging out with Michael Phelps. |
| 3 (4) | 20 | Arizona State |
7-4 | 18-5 | Oregon schools + James Harden = number 3 ranking in the Pac-10 Power Rankings. |
| 4 (5) | 19 | Cal | 7-4 | 18-6 | Just when you thought the Bears were done, they come roaring back to get a great win over the Huskies and are still in the hunt for the Pac-10 title. |
| 5 (6) | 14 | Arizona |
6-5 | 16-8 | The wildcats escaped Gill with a win over the nation's First Coach and coasted by Oregon. Even though the cats have won 5 straight, they welcome a big test in UCLA this week. |
| 6 (3) | 13 | USC | 6-4 | 15-7 | Lost to UCLA last week and has to travel to Arizona this week. Can the trojans rebound? |
| 7 (7) | 7 | Washington State | 4-7 | 12-11 | Dropping two in the Bay Area didn't drop Washington State as far as this author thought it would. The Cougars welcome the Oregon schools to Pullman, a welcome rebound. |
| 8 (9) | 7 | Stanford | 4-7 | 15-7 | Beating up Cal State Bakersfield doesn't count in this weeks ranking...nor should it count in any rankings of this nature. |
| 9 (8) | 4 | Oregon State | 4-7 | 10-12 | Heartbreaking loss to Arizona, then the Beavs only managed 38 points against the Sun Devils? The last time the Beavs had only 38 points? It was against the Sun Devils back on January 8th. |
| 10 (10) | 0 | Oregon | 0-11 | 6-17 | 2 more losses for the Ducks of Oregon. The magic number for that 0-18 season is down to 7. The "Fire Ernie" crowd has been lighting the torches and getting the pitchforks ready. |

sigh
I feel like this freshman class is different from 2005 in that we haven’t really seen flashes of greatness yet from anybody except maybe Dunigan or Sim (I guess you could count Wiley’s UA game if you really wanted). With the Malik/Bryce class, they looked like they had the fire and the instinct. I’ll refer to this highlight reel as an example.

Multiple thunderdunks, alley-oops, and a buzzer-beater. In one game. We could make that highlight video with all the season’s events. Maybe. What I’m saying is, if we’re gonna lose, I want thunderdunks. Wait, no. What I’m saying is, maybe the Fire Ernie folks should light a fire under the team first. If that doesn’t work, I’ll bring the feathers if Shufelt brings the tar.
It's spelled "M-A-R-C-H-I-N-G-B-A-N-D."
I support inroywetrust in his support of The VD Special in his support of me supporting Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.
