Oregon wins NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship
Runfast already beat me to it in a fanshot here but congratulations to the Oregon Ducks Men's Track Team who won the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship this weekend. There were lots of interesting happenings that you can read about in the article above but one particular stat stuck out to me. Galen Rupp was the first person in NCAA history to win the 5,000 meters, 3,000 meters and the distance medley in the same championship. Truly amazing.
The women's team also finished tied for 9th, the best ever showing by the Lady Ducks at the indoor championships. Go Ducks!

Seriously.
What has Galen Rupp not done? Truly a track wunderkind.

Please don't take this as pissy, but this is something I learned
Calling the women’s teams at a college the “Lady ____” is a trend that purely exists east of the Rockies. Pretty much every team in the west, of course, uses the same moniker, with a few exceptions (USC: men are Trojans, women are Women of Troy).
That said, spectacular performance, and I look forward to seeing what they could do outdoors. Who knows…perhaps the men will be in position for a grand slam (XC, indoor, outdoor).

technically the women's teams should be the ducks
and the men’s teams should be the drakes. just gettin’ scientific up in herre.
It's spelled "M-A-R-C-H-I-N-G-B-A-N-D."
I support inroywetrust in his support of The VD Special in his support of me supporting Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.
The Drakes would be awesome.

no pissiness taken. Of course, since you said its used east of the rockies…then say every team in the west uses the same thing, I’m not sure what is pissy about saying it is used “everywhere”. If I use it incorrectly, I would love to know what is proper. I know Jerry Allen uses it but I’m not sure I can use that as a good source.

I've always called the basketball team the Lady Ducks...

lady lame
I have always thought it was weird to call a team the Lady Mascots. Why does their need to be a distinction. Are we not pushing for equality? I have always be personally against it.
On the other hand I am personally for winning NC’s. Go Ducks!
Ducks Go!
Already miss you MB

we may push equality but in this era of sports, most people assume “Men’s” first when referring to coed style teams. For instance, if I said “Ducks Basketball Beats Stanford”, most would immediately assume men’s basketball (or maybe not given their record) even though it COULD be women’s. I think its better just to call it out on both sides and call it good
