Oregon Wins Game 2 of the Baseball Civil War in Extra Innings, 3-2
John Adamson's 10th-Inning walk-off single to right field brought Tommasini home for the winning run as the Ducks beat the Beavers 3-2 in front of a Pac-10 record 15,552 fans at PGE Park in Portland. Oregon is now 1-1 in this early Pac-10 season. The win was also special for George Horton as it was career victory number 500. Coach Horton said after the game "This was a tremendous atmosphere and with the crowd as large as it was it felt like Omaha." Read more at goducks.com.
This was a great, great win for Oregon. Any win against a team as decorated as Oregon State is a big one but the first victory against a rival, this quickly, at a neutral site is quite a feat. The rubber game is at 1pm PST on Sunday and even if the Ducks lose that game, walking away with a victory against the Beavers this early on in the season is nothing short of remarkable.
With that, here's a question The VD Special asked during Game 1....

this game was so awesome
i was at it and i would say there was at least twice as many beaver fans as duck fans but the difference was the duck fans were 10 times as loud and at the end of the game it was just awesome seeing "O"’s speckled across the stadium as the beavers fans walked home with their tales ,awkwardly positioned, between their legs.

I would say the fan base was split 50-50
I was surprised to see how many Duck fans turned out. A couple things amazed me: 1. Baseball, I figured, would be a much tamer game. I saw as many fights yesterday as I have during football games. (Shouldn’t really be surprised, as the booze was flowing). 2. Oregon is already a good baseball team. Hitting not as great (walked in 2 runs), but the pitching is excellent. As soon as Horton gets some bats in his lineup, they are going to be dangerous.
I knew the baseball CW would eventually become an “unfriendly” rivalry, but let’s face it, nobody expected what happened yesterday to transpire. With Oregon winning yesterday, it has amplified the game by 100. Congrats to Oregon, I’m now going to go cry some more.
Also, how awesome that 15,500 people showed up for a college baseball game? And it wasn’t even a game of two highly ranked teams. It has beaten out all ASU-UA games, UCLA-USC, etc. Just awesome. This game will become a staple of Portland, I’m sure.

Attendance
Do you think we will do the same thing next year or have it at Goss. It would definitely be an advantage to have it in Corvallis but like you said it was a great atmosphere in Portland with the fans split 50-50.

My guess is they do it the same way this year
Especially with the new ball park they are building for the Portland Beavers, they are going to look for ways of revenue. Neither PK Park or Goss Stadium would be wise. Might as well switch teams hosting it (this year UO, next year OSU) and the host team gets the Friday game at their stadium, and Saturday/Sunday in Portland. The atmosphere was awesome. I don’t think it’d be unreasonable to expect 15-20k people at the games in Portland. I imagine it would have been close to 18-19k yesterday had the rain not kept some fans away.

That'll be awesome
Just think of once both teams starting rising to the top, and there’s actual Omaha connotations on the Portland games.

If both teams are fighting for spots in Omaha
Which is very realistic for next year. We could probably get FSN or even ESPN to televise the games.

That’s pretty remarkable, actually.

ESPN couldn't televise it because FSN owns the rights
but if the series were played a little later in the year when FSN begins their college baseball telecasts then I think this series would be a shoe in.

Thanks for the info
I didn’t know that FSN owned the rights. I wonder though if they really wanted to show it ESPN could buy it fom them.

FSN owns the rights to all non-basketball and football sports
ESPN could buy the rights from them, but until the regionals/supers, they’ve shown little to no interest in college baseball. ESPN and ESPN 2 have no games this year and ESPNU only has six I believe.

Didn’t see any fights myself. There was one guy a few rows in front of us that way way drunk – and then he had a couple more beers. He was screaming and being a bit of a douche. But that was just about it – a little smack talking, but nothing bad.

I saw 2 actual fights
But a lot of jaw jacking back forth that continued even on the max. One thing I would like to say is I understand that talking shit is a part of sports (especially in rivalry games) and that fighting happens. I understand that. Is it dumb? Absolutely. Have I been guilty of it myself? On more than one occasion. But people should really try to be aware of little kids around them. I think that’s how one fight started, where a guy was cussing quite a bit and a dad told him to shut up (his young kid was there next to him, within clear earshot of everything the guy was saying) and the guy took offense to it. Finally somebody pushed the guy and all hell broke loose. But my point is, there is no need to say “F*** you F***ot” when there is a 6 year old trying to enjoy the game right next to you. Be smart, people.

Back when I was like 13...
I believe it was the SC game of ‘07, and we were about to take the final kneels. Some Joe Blow came and stood right in front of our seats (which are in the endzone, on the field), just to watch the kneeldowns. One of the dads around our section told him we were ticketholders and watching the end of the game, if he could please move. The guy goes "Hey hey hey… we’re all duck fans aren’t we? It’s cool, it’s cool… eh, f*ck off old man."
There’s this guy sitting next to me who I’ve sat next to for some 6 years, his name is Jace, he’s about 30 years old. He’s also 6’5", 260. He stands up and simply says “Hey now…”
And the guy books it back up the section aisle. Ahh… it’s good to have a big man around sometimes.

There was a bit of smack talking as we were heading back to the max. One guy in particular was a little… sensitive, but nothing happened.

It was just the lighting. He came by our section, and I got a picture I’ll put up sometime.
