Morning Quack Fix: 4.22.09
There isn't a ton of news out there today, but here's what I've got:
- I was really torn on Saturday night watching former Oregon star Aaron Brooks tear the Blazers apart. Having grown up in Oregon like so many other fellow Ducks, I've been a life-long Blazers fan and seeing them in the playoffs for the first time since 2003 is a blessing. But, obviously, I'm also a die-hard Oregon fan. Brandon Roy has challenged those loyalties as he's emerged as a perennial All-Star for the Blazers, but I think I've gotten over it. Brooks, on the other hand, is really starting to complicate matters. But if Saturday was the worst-case scenario for a Blazers/Ducks fan, then last night was the best case. Brooks put up another impressive performance for the Houston Rockets, but the Blazers still held on for the win, evening the series at one game a piece. Let's hope Brooks continues to light it up...as long as the Blazers win.
- The Oregon baseball team couldn't overcome UC Irvine's late rally yesterday, losing to the top-ranked Anteaters, 7-4. The Ducks have now dropped 10 of their last 11.
As always, post any links you find out there in the comments.
GO DUCKS!
Oh, and GO BLAZERS!

HA! I just wrote a FanPost about the same thing as you in regards to Brooks.
"When Bellotti attempted to shake the hand of Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson after the game, Robinson offered his left hand. His right was swollen and battered from the Ducks' defense."

Just read your post...
What a coincidence. But I imagine most Blazers/Ducks fans are experiencing the same thing. I was absolutely GRILLED by my buddy from high school who was visiting me in SF this weekend. He went to Arizona State, and has a genuine hatred of all things Oregon. He’s also a DIE-HARD Blazers fan. He didn’t think it was very funny that Brooks KILLED us on Saturday night. I didn’t think it was funny either, but I was certainly happy for Brooks. He’s really coming on as an NBA player. I’m totally fine with him continuing to surge, as long as the Blazers win. :-)
Hi, I'm Paul Thompson, and I'm a quack-aholic.
Go Blazers > Go Brooks
I agree, I hate to see the Blazers lose but it’s fun watching Aaron Brooks get noticed in the NBA.
I just learned that Brooks and Brandon Roy were on the same team…in grade school!

Brooks is good but our lack of a strong defender at the point (Blake’s not terrible but he’s not great either) is making him look out of this world, plus we’ve decided to stop defending off of picks for this series, which has been awesome. He’s a tough match-up though—small, fast and a shooter if you leave him open. Oden’s block on him was great. Oden’s pathetic 6th foul on him was not great.
That final 30 seconds was ridiculous. That deep three was so disgusting—it made me second guess that game being actually put away. The thing I’ve enjoyed so far this morning is the whining from Rockets fans who think the foul on Rudy at the end cost them the entire game.
"The brownies,'' Fernandez said after the game. "The brownies are good for me to make three-points.''

I feel like im in bazaro world
I am in love with a guy I loathed and belittled at games in college, a husky damn it, and I am cussing out my favorite Duck baller. Its just not right. All I can do is apologize to AB after the game and celebrate the Blazers.
Ducks Go!
RIP CITY!
Portland could have....
drafted Brooks. I was hoping that they would have.
Honestly, I don't know we'd really much needed him.
The Blazers are pretty well-off at guard, though a true PG – not just a beastly SG-turned-PG – would be neat.

I think I would too.
Though, again, Bayless is closer to a SG in my opinion.

Classic Oregon “play to the level of your opponents” strategy
I support Takimoto in his effort to support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

Vin Lananna and Nike
Interesting article discussing whether or not shoes are good for you. Includes some references to Vin Lananna (while he was coaching at Stanford) and Nike’s relationship with the Cardinal at the time.
