Aaron Brooks' Arrival

I wanted to write a post about this because I'm not sure how much attention everyone pays to the NBA playoffs, and a Duck is emerging as a new star. I attended the Blazers vs Rockets Game 2 playoff game last night in Portland. I've been a Blazers fan all my life and that was the most incredible basketball game experience of my life.

Before the series started I commented to some friends that my perfect scenario is for the Blazers to win the series, and for Aaron Brooks to GO OFF. For those of you not paying attention, Brooks is killing it. Last night he scored 11 points in the last 30 seconds (bullet #4) and had the Blazers fans beside themselves. Since the game was in hand I was just kind of laughing.

This is where it got really funny for me. I attended the game with 2 friends: the one to my right is a huge Arizona Wildcats basketball fan. The friend to my left is an OS fan. I made a comment about how Brooks just seems to have that killer instinct "clutch" factor. The Arizona guy immediately said, "this isn't funny, I think he had 2 game winners against us his last year at Oregon and now he's tormenting me again".

Oh yeah...as I was leaving the fans were all fired up in the concourse. They were chanting and cheering and generally going crazy. The friends with me made a comment about how crazy the environment was. I said, "yeah this is pretty fun, but you should come to a Ducks football game. EVERY game is like this!"

Even more reason for me to hate Aaron Brooks

But my God I have to give props where props are due. Holy shit….

I support Takimoto in his effort to support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

I was sitting there completely torn. It was all good and funny at first but then he hit that last 3 to get it within 2 points and I started to panic a little. My friends on the other hand…not so much torn; more so firmly in the VD “more reason for me to hate Aaron Brooks” camp.

Torn? Are you a Blazers fan or not?

I found ways to cheer against Brent Barry in his 30 seconds the other night…

Yes I’m a Blazer fan. What I meant is that when it looked like the game was over and he started hitting shots I was thinking it was cool, and then when it got too close for comfort I had to reverse my thinking. Oh trust me, if it comes to Brooks doing well and Blazers losing or Brooks doing poorly and the Blazers winning, I’m taking the Blazer win 100 times out of 100. It was just an odd experience I guess. Let me put it this way…I was rooting against him in Game 1 when we were getting killed.

Game 1 made me sick.

Especially with all the build up to it, and then to just fall flat like that. The last time I felt like that was last November during the Civil W – oh wait.

I kid, I kid!

Good news is that it’s best 3 of 5 now. You really keep busy with the posting. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you posting on BlazersEdge. I don’t ever write anything over there because I feel like most people on that site are just waiting to see someone new to the site and then pounce on them for not being an original BE’er and just power-slam their ideas as moronic.

Bedgers are crazy and love to pounce on each other from time to time. I gave up on putting any effort into my posts months ago—it’s outgrowing its original function. I’m over there a bit—between stuff at work and during slow times I post here and there… then I’ll disappear for a few days at a time…

I’ve almost posted a bunch of times. If you go look at the fanposts, it doesn’t matter what you write, SOMEONE will come along and try to smart-talk you and make you look stupid. It’s pointless. I’m all about self-policing, but sometimes it’s just over the top.

Mariners SBN.

Bedge is like Happy Hands Club compared to LL.

Blazers Edge also has over twice the traffic, with a smaller fanbase…what’s that tell you?

It has twice the traffic?

I would not have guessed. I personally prefer BEdge in general, though I’m biased.

Kent was there last night (they showed him on TV). I thought Brooks publicly has shown that he doesn't really like Kent. Anyone else hear that?

I’ve heard similar things but can’t confirm. Some graduates of the UO program love Ernie, some don’t and I don’t have the specifics on who is in what camp. What I do find interesting is the seeming lack of alumni that come out to help support the basketball program, especially in the wake of how many football players come out.

all i know is Ernie had a snug sense of satisfaction on his face last night. Not sure whether it was deserved or if AB’s just a beast-man.
