Best Duck Highlight of 2008? You Decide!

Check out the highlight links below and vote in to the poll. If there is one you don't see here, but should, add it in the "Other Play" vote and leave the link in the comments.

I picked one from each game (my favorites), except the Civil War...there were too many to choose!

Oregon vs. Washingon - Terence Scott

Oregon vs. Utah St. - LeGarrette Blount (His first of many!)

Oregon vs. Purdue - Jairus Byrd (only 'cause it got us back into the game)

Oregon vs. Boise St. - LeGarrette Blount (no brainer here!)

Oregon vs. WSU - Jaison Williams (nice stiff arm!)

Oregon vs. USC - Jeremiah Johnson (I had to use this one, cause it was about the only highlight on a game that I am pretty sure never happened. I think that this video is CGI...)

Oregon vs. UCLA - LeGarrette Blount

Oregon vs. ASU - LeGarrette Blount

Oregon vs. Cal - TJ Ward

Oregon vs. Stanfurd - Jeremiah Johnson

Oregon vs. Arizona - Patrick Chung

Oregon vs. OSU - Ed Dickson and Jeremiah Johnson

Oregon vs. OK State - LeGarrette Blount

Masoli running over defensive backs against Okie State, any of the many times this happened would be acceptable.

The fact that you had some amazing plays missing from the list just goes to show how many incredible plays happened last year.

Great work, this stuff never gets old for me.

mine too

plus the Dickson highlight should have credit given to J-Will, best down field block by a receiver . . . ever.

I really think we are going to miss his down field blocking more than anything else we lost.

by bradLL99 on May 1, 2009 6:59 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really? Are you sure?

I think Jeremiah Johnson’s knee may have something a bit contrary to say about your statement.
I personally think Jason Willis was the best blocking WR Oregon has had, though Garren Strong was very good as well. J-Will was a horrible blocker up until his senior year.

by keeerrrttt1 on May 1, 2009 5:53 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

With down field blocking comes great responsibility

JJ’s knee was the catalyst that drove JWill to be the great blocker that he became last season, much like Peter Parker’s grand dad getting shot lead to Spider Man. BYOB – Bring your own BOOYAH!

Masoli crushing that guy was awesome but I still have Blount slightly over JJ in the civil war

Just barely. Maybe a tie.

I’m doing with the Dickson pass. That was such an awesome play. Great escape by Masoli, and the Dixon to get open. That play was the icing on the cake.

Though, really, you could take any of the Civil War or Holiday bowl plays as the best of the season, and I wouldn’t argue.

I picked the JJ run against OSU because it was a great way to wind down his Oregon career.

Gotta go with JJ

Maybe my favorite run of all time. JJ runs past one stuck-in-molasses Beav in the secondary, loses the ball then hauls it back in without hardly breaking stride, stiff arms another Beav to the turf then outruns another to the pylon.

I'm really tired of it not being football season.

by JConant on Apr 29, 2009 4:18 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Has to be JJ’s CW run, with his stiff-arm to the Beavs’ Rose Bowl dreams.

One last stiff-arm

that thing was made of steal.

I voted for the Dickson play

but i did giggle a little at the Blount UCLA run because Masoli looks really disappointed when he runs all 69 yards and doesn’t get to throw a block.

I never noticed that before

You gotta love that Masoli chases the play all the way down to help his team. I have noticed him do that on more than one occasion.

May we hand you your taints on a silver platter...

Seeing Harper congratulating Blount after the UCLA… They’re basically the same size. Would Harper maybe be a beast at RB or what?

I'm really tired of it not being football season.

by JConant on Apr 29, 2009 4:26 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

YES!

Harper I think is much faster.

On paper, at least.

He doesn’t quite have the gait of a RB though, I’ve noticed.

I don’t know, his stride is extremely long….His pass against ASU, he just took off…

--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog

by jtlight on Apr 29, 2009 7:40 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He certainly has mad acceleration.

Just his said stride is a little awkward for a RB, it definitely resembles that of a receiver’s more… maybe it’s just me.

Does that matter though? It might look awkward, but it seems to get the job done.

Of course not.

But it’s one of those things that make you wonder about a player’s cut-out for a job. Size is one thing. Then you’ve got the Disneychannel Movie crowd fully behind you. But when you run like a Shufelt on a full stomach, you’ve got durability issues!

More on Chris Harper...

I didn’t say this in my post-scrimmage notes a couple weeks back, but I will here… I’m worried about Chris Harper.

I watched his body language carefully at that scrimmage – with a good view while sitting in the front row right behind where he was grouped with the offense. On a couple of occasions I mentioned to Dom that Harper looked disinterested, almost distant. He started with the first unit at WR, but didn’t see much come his way and just kind of disappeared.

Now, I could be making something out of nothing here. It’s what I perceived watching the guy for a couple hours. I don’t see him practice every day. Whatever the case, I left that scrimmage thinking the Ducks need to find ways to keep this guy involved and engaged. After Masoli and Blount, I’ll be watching Harper closely Saturday to see if he steps up.

I'm really tired of it not being football season.

Jeremiah Masoli's 2nd TD run in the Holiday Bowl

I’m absolutely shocked that this isn’t in the list…This is the play that still has people buzzing, and has become the iconic moment of the 2008 season for Oregon.

I had a hard time finding that one. I think the first two comments have voted for that one.

That was fun, thanks for putting this together

Makes you realize what a highlight-packed season the Ducks enjoyed in 2008.

I voted for JJ in the Civil War. It was such a huge play at the time…the Beavers calling timeouts in anticipation of forcing a punt and getting a crucial score before halftime…3rd and 19…and BOOM there goes Johnson, tearing out the hearts of Beaver Nation with an 80-yard gallop!

Runner-up would be Masoli steamrolling the safety in the Holiday Bowl…as keeerrrttt1 says, that is the play that everyone was talking about after the game.

good call tj4eck

you beat me to the punch. I’ve watched that clip at least a hundred times. Everything about it is perfect (except for the fact that it won’t go down as an actual play). Davis’ call is great, I love how TJ resets his gloves like he just did a set of power cleans, Robinson stumbling away, it was a game changer.

I can't believe no one mentioned this one yet...

Darron Thomas’s amazing trick play throw to Jeffrey Maehl. That was insane.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMgBNKlqYbM

You know things are bad when Bobby Crosby doesn't have the lowest batting average of any starter, yet he's hitting .138. Yes, you're 2009 Oakland Athletics.
