Methinks you need to stay off the internet for a brief moment, Mr. “Pwned.”

Touche, I guess?

I think internet memes are fun personally. Flipside, I don’t think Shufelts are fun.

The internet is serious business.

And if you don’t think Shufelts are fun, you obviously have never owned (or pwned) one.

Completely agree with Blount

by westspec on Apr 7, 2009 4:02 PM PDT reply actions

This could go either way.

Blount needs to make sure he doesn’t get big for his britches. Bryce Brown is likely going to be a phenomenal college running back, and it would be nice to just say that, as opposed to saying stuff that is going to make you look like a blowhard once Brown explodes.

Whats wrong with, “he is a talented runner, and I wish him well, but I fell like we have a lot of great things happening here in Oregon even without him.”

Why take it the extra step, and infer that Brown’s lack of big state experience somehow should discredit his potential?

I heart taxes.

I agree.

Of course.

I don’t condone Blount saying this, nor do I think any of our players should be saying this sort of thing, though I do think it was a pretty nice burn.

TO has had plenty of nice burns in his day.

That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have shut up 10 years ago.

I find Chad Johnson way more entertaining than TO.

Chad Johnson is actually one guy who I really don’t want to shut up.

At first I was agreeing with you, but then I realized – Blount isn’t really wrong.

Sure he was heavily recruited, and was touted as possibly the best recruit in the class. He hasn’t proven it yet in college. I don’t really see it as a burn on Bryce either. The bar has been set extremely high for this young man, and by picking a school due to NFL preparations when he hasn’t shown he can challenge the Floridas or USCs, is looking a bit far ahead.

I don’t think anything said was with any ill-will – and the truth is, we’re pretty set in the running back stable. It would have been good to have him, but he wasn’t the missing link for the team.

I don’t know. “…The only thing he’ll bring is speed.” That sounds fairly derogatory to me, when referring to possibly the top RB recruit in the country. If I recall, Brown had two long touchdown catching the ball out of the backfield in the Army All-Star game. He appears to be fairly well rounded. Blount might very well be proven correct in time, but I think this is one of those Golden Rule moments.

But is speed any different than what we already have? (Ref: LaMichael James)

Here is the problem as i see it.

Blount did not say anything that wouldn’t be legitimate for say… a sports-writer to say, but alas, he is a player.

I think he would be WAY better off without saying stuff that is derogatory, especially as it pertains to other players. Just play, and be gracious at all times.

I heart taxes.

by everett on Apr 7, 2009 6:01 PM PDT up reply actions

I don’t disagree with that entirely. I just think this was just minor smack talk, because I don’t think it is unsupported. Not nearly as bad as Masoli’s gaff last year after the USC game.

But I’m all for letting people speak their minds – it helps see who the real idiots are out there. Blount is at least backing up what he says with a bit of realism.

Masoli: "We feel like we have the better team, but tonight they just scored more points. We just gave that one away . . . The game was in our hands the whole time.’’

Source.

I’m pretty sure they kicked our ass.

Bount would have been 100% right...

…except for the speed comment…

Brown has no business talking about the NFL before he proves one thing in college. He played in Kansas, and even then seemed to not give 100%. He’s gotta prove it.

Blount is right, but may have gone a bit too far.

Brown wasn't just slamming the Ducks

He was also saying that Blount wasn’t NFL material. I’m glad BFT said what he did—not to mention what he said about Kansas high school football compared to other states was dead on.

In fact, I hope he took it really personally and runs all next season with a huge chip on his shoulder.

by grimc on Apr 7, 2009 10:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Slamming Blount personally? That’s a stretch. I was listening to the live radio interview after Brown announced for Tennessee and I didn’t hear him say anything about Blount. As far as Kansas high school football goes, isn’t that where Chris Harper came from? Maybe other are not, but I’m pretty high on that guy’s talent.

You cannot hide from our weapons of Masoli destruction.

by JConant on Apr 8, 2009 9:26 AM PDT up reply actions

By logical extension. And Harper hasn’t indicated he thinks college ball is little more than a waypoint between Kansas high school and the NFL.

by grimc on Apr 8, 2009 11:03 AM PDT up reply actions

I like this not for what Blount said

..but how it seems he feels. It comes off as though he feels slighted by the lusting for Brown. If that situation becomes fuel on the man beast fire it is nice he feels this way. If he is just talking shit to talk then I’m not a big fan. Not a whole lot better than a really good player with a chip on their shoulder.

Good for Blount

Hey I like what he is saying. I agree that Brown has basically said that if you play at oregon you will not make a very good NFL back, because they do not prepare you well enough. J-Stew has proven otherwise. JJ i think will be a good back in the NFL, and Blount next year. To me Blount is just speaking up about the way Oregon runs the ball. He is right Brown has not done anything yet. He didnt say brown was not a good back, but he just stated the obvious that he hasn’t played a down in college football yet to be thinking about the nfl.
