Here's what the new "Made in Oregon" sign will look like in the coming months after a compromise made by the University of Oregon and the city of Portland. KVAL has the story about the controversy and the background of the sign

As a Portland Native who could see this sign from his bedroom window growing up I’m saddened by this change. At least they’ve reached this compromise. It’s not nearly bad as it could be. What do ducks think of it? Out of my friends—all Portland kids, through and through—I can’t find any supporters. One of my friends thinks it would be cool but still doesn’t like the idea of actually changing the sign.
Anyway, there’s my obvious take from a Portland born Beaver.
Oregon fan take – I worked for years within blocks of that landmark sign. I don’t love it, but the compromise is far better than the original idea, which I was 100 percent against. Like grimc said, it’s changed before and it will change again.
You cannot hide from our weapons of Masoli destruction.
I agree with you. As far as grimc’s point regarding the switching between private brand names, well, I don’t see uo as a private brand name. Throwing a big O or an OSU up there would annoy either fan/alum contingent. Add the fact that it’s a school that’s not even from Portland and it’s even more annoying.
The compromise works for me too. People like to give Randy Leonard crap about this but at least someone has the interest of people who are actually from Portland and still live here in mind.
What I meant by that was just that it’s not as if it’s some promotional line for the state that was getting usurped. And I can sympathize with how annoying it must be for non-UO fans. But that’s why it’s teh awesum.
…non-UO fans
I’m a Portlander first, non-UO fan second and it makes both sides want to puke peach schnapps out of my nose… but I can deal with the fact it’ll say “Oregon”… could not do the big zero or “ducks” or “Masoli for messiah” or anything like that. You can understand this, correct?
I have always loved the blazers as much as I love my beavs and don’t think I want either team’s/organization’s branding up there on what we all consider a city landmark.
Easy now, I get you. Don’t really disagree with you. But look on the bright side, it could’ve been worse.

That would be worse but not at all unexpected. Am I supposed to snap back with a BB gun joke at this point? I’m going to visit o-live forums for guidance…

For me, the second worse redesign would have included a big green heart in the middle of the Oregon outline.
Hate those stickers.
It screams “I just moved here” and “I drive a subaru” simultaneously.

As an ex-Portander...
I declare Portland residence Sanchez as a bearing on what the sign should or should not say. I do have a few ideas however:
a) free OREGON
or
b) OREGON the empire of portland
mostly I just think whomever owns the friggin sign should just put up whatever they want on it.
Yes your ass looks big, you need to lose weight. Sorry, had to vent.
We all miss you. Really, we do.
I don’t get your post.
And I think I can agree that most of the people who live here are well deserving of the Sanchez declaration. I’ll second that.
I miss my old house, near Grant HS.
My point is that I seriously doubt Portlanders cared a whit when White Satin erected the thing, or when White Stag put the deer and their name on it when they later acquired ownership. Why do Portlanders think the current owner should give a rat’s rear what he/she/it chooses to change it to now…Just because it’s “old?”

I am very happy with this compromise.
Totally against the first proposal. And didn’t care too much for “Made in Oregon” sign. That didn’t bring me any civic pride when I saw it because I don’t know what we make here. I know we export lumber, which is grown in Oregon, not really made.
Whatev, I like the new sign best.
The American dream....get you some.
Go to any Made In Oregon store
You’ll find the industries that power the Oregon economy are driftwood art, myrtlewood bowls and peanut brittle.
