Morning Quack Fix: Happy Memorial Day!
I hope that everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day. My heartfelt thanks go out to all of our servicemen and women throughout the world.
It's a quiet day in the sports world, but here are a few Duck links.
- Oregon baseball finished it's first season in 28 years, and well, it didn't end well. The team lost 13 games to finish the season, including yesterday's finale, 5-2.. It was not easy, but was, sadly, expected. With a coach like Horton, however, I'm sure that we will see incredible growth over the next few years. Good luck to the team over the offseason.
- The University of Oregon has applied for a trademark of "Track Town, U.S.A." I'm not quite sure what to make of that, but there you go.
- Lastly, I'm shocked to say this, but I like Canzano's opinion on the Roper transfer. I've seen some pretty insane articles floating around about the recent bout of transfers, which in my opinion, don't mean anything. It's good to hear someone typically antagonistic brush this off. That said, good luck to Justin, Aaron and everyone else who is pursuing their dreams outside of the U of O.
Have a great holiday everyone, and GO DUCKS!

I'm shocked and amazed that Canzano said something coherent.
I’m definitely sad to see Roper go, but he’s right— assuming Costa’s knee holds up, that is. I hope his last surgery works better than his previous ones, which didn’t properly heal the ACL. Costa is a good QB, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes in and pushes Masoli a little bit in fall camp, even if it’s not a serious challenge.
They've gone to plaid!
Of course I'm not on the inside of this or anything.
But I read a while back that the surgery on Costa’s knee was different this time. They opened up his knee, removed all scar tissue from previous surgeries, and then used his own MCL to replace his ACL. What they do is – get this – cut a rectangular stripe down the middle of the MCL, and put it in place of the ACL. This is effective in that the MCL easily grows back, and the ACL will be rebuilt using only his own tissue, so his body will naturally mesh with it better.
Again, I’m no authority on it, but that’s what I’ve read via interviews with Nate Costa about his most recent surgery.

that made me cringe
I had no idea he had that kind of work done.

Thanks for the inside work Dr. ATQ
To go out and ruin somebody's dreams like that, it feels real good," Oregon receiver Jaison Williams.
Haha, sure.
I read all I could on knee anatomy the past two football seasons.

I'm pretty sure I read the same thing.
I know that the ACL does not get a supply of blood (it’s just connective tissue, so it doesn’t really need oxygen), which is why it’s such a devastating injury, as opposed to an MCL or other ligament tear. That’s why this time around they took tissue from a blood-supplied ligament to stitch it together.
I’m with you in that I’m no authority, but it is kind of cool to know what’s up with our potential starter’s knee after all he’s been through.
They've gone to plaid!
Yeah, essentially, everything in there but the ACL grows back in like 3 weeks.

Track Town
Pepperoni with extra sauce, baked long enough so the pepperonis are just a little burnt on the edges, making them curl into little saucers in which tiny dollops of hot grease collect, soaked up by the parm cheese dumped liberally—ideally one packet per slice.
Sigh.
Feeling a little "hungry" are we?
