Morning Quack Fix: 6.11.09
Here's the Thursday Quack:
- Jeff Kneis of the Bleacher Report discusses the roles to be played by Chip Kelly, Mark Helfrich and Steve Greatwood in Oregon's 2009 offense.
- Prep running back Dontae Williams just got a scholarship offer from Oregon. Justin Hopkins over at DuckTerritory.com reports that Williams - a former teammate of Darron Thomas - is very interested in the Ducks. (But he didn't say "dream school", and this makes me happy.)
- Ted Miller lightens things up with a hypothetical list of non-conference games he'd like to see added to the Pac-10 2009 football schedule.
- Lots of Track & Field news from the R-G as the Ducks men's and women's team kick off the national meet. Ashton Eaton made it a little interesting, but finished the day well ahead in the decathlon. The Duck women didn't let a lengthy weather delay get them off course. More coverage from the meet at OregonLive.com.
- Recently drafted baseball players from Oregon and Oregon State talk about their options now that there's money and contracts to be considered.
- Oregon women's hoops coach Paul Westhead announced the addition of JC point guard Candyce Flynn.
Did you find something intriguing? How about some good recruiting news? Add it in the comments. Quack!

My favorite part of the Bleacher Report piece was the first comment.

I’d rather play an SEC team I think. We went to Oklahoma just a few years ago.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
True
And shut up the SEC teams who claim that the Pac-10 isn’t that good compared to them…
Proud member of Duck nation!
No kidding. It’s unfortunate that none of the Pac-10 teams have really got to stick it to them in the past few years. It was good to see Miller defend that Oregon would take second in the SEC last year.

If Dixon doesn't get hurt
I know, I know but I think we at least give LSU a run for their money in the National Title game…

how dare you!

You guys were mentioned as a fantasy mention for Notre Dame
I pray it happens. You guys would smoke them, especially in Autzen. ND is usually pretty bad on the turf.

I won't even go to South bend to watch Purdue
Yet I would consider going to South Bend to watch you beat them. I like your team and your fans. I just can’t stand going up there into the heart of the arrogance.

It’s astounding that they have any pride left after losing to Syracuse at home. They are much like Husky fans.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
I hope the feeling stays the same with your visit to Eugene.
If anyone gives you crap, let me know… I’ll knock them out fo’ realz!
And they’ll feel that regret and self loathing when they go home later and dwell on the a black eye they gave me. We’ll see who’s laughing then!
"It’s spelled S-H-U-F-E-L-T-M-E-U-P"
It’s hard to believe after a decade of being nothing but mediocre to poor, despite all kinds of “on paper” talent, that arrogance still exists at Notre Dame. I’m sure it’s just like at Washington where they hide their heads deep in the sands of ancient history.
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
Actually, it's two decades now
At least Washington won a Rose Bowl in 2001 (sadly against us). Notre Dame has been pantsed by every bowl opponent except Hawaii since 1992.
Agreed on Washington though. I wish we had played you guys in that Rose Bowl.

Careful, Boiler. People are going to start saying you’re an Oregon Duck sympathizer. “People will say we’re in love.”
This is the internet. There’s little tolerance for kind, rational discussion. Are you really this reasonable a person or are you just angling for free beers and a juicy steak at the Oregon/Purdue tailgater?
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
LOL
Actually, I’ve always watched Oregon as a secondary team, then I met my wife. She’s actually a big Oregon fan even though she went to Miami. You guys really impressed me with your fans and team last season. I had been looking forward to that game for a long time because I like playing unique opponents at home other than the Big Ten, Notre Dame, or MAC du jour. I also love unique road trips. That’s the main reason I want to come out to Autzen in September. When am I going to get another chance to see Purdue play there? If you guys are hospitable hosts it is even better.

I would love to play ND
They would never play us because we aren’t a big enough name for their fans and they’d get their ass kicked….
Proud member of Duck nation!
We aren't a big enough name?
ND plays Nevada, Stanford and Uconn, I’d say we are a bigger name than those teams. But they would get there asses kicked.
PADO
To ND fans...
We aren’t, we’re still Oregon and we don’t have the history they do (who does?)
Proud member of Duck nation!
What non-Pac-10 team would play Washington and Washington State in the same season? They should have bought out of one of those games on principle alone.
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
when has ND ever shown that they have principle?

I think part of it too....
Is that they regularly play Pac-10 teams. Because of this, I don’t know that they have a lot of motivation to add more.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
Good point. They do hook up with the Pac-10 regularly. It seems probable that ND and Oregon might schedule a home and home sometime down the road. What I don’t see is ND wanting any part of Oregon State or Dennis Erickson at ASU for about the next century.
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
We'd love to hook up with ND again.
They’ve been so good to us.
The stories I’ve heard about how ND players conducted themselves in the days leading up to the games are priceless. Not exactly the kind’ve classy behavior domers usually try to associate with their has-been program.

I’m sure. On the other hand, let’s remember that wasn’t exactly the classiest Beaver team ever either. Come on Chad, just act like you’ve been to the end zone before.
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
Meh. Doesn’t bother me. Extreme snots need to have their noses rubbed in it. The reason that very few people actually trashed us on that is because the college football world LOVED it.
ND was in ANOTHER bowl it didn’t deserve against an opponent whose time they were simply going to waste by showing up. I’m sure it goes both ways as far as smack talk leading up to the game, but don’t bring a knife to a gun fight when you’ve been running your mouths.
Two lovely games if I might say so myself.

Haha, Ohio State is worrying about their QB situation….
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
Not sure why they’re surprised to miss on Montana. Isn’t he strictly a drop-back guy? Not exactly in the T. Pryor mold.
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
Sweatervest has coached just about every type of QB, so I’m not sure why that would matter.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
True. But is he molding his offense around his QBs these days or is he trying to find QBs to suit his offensive system? Smith, Boeckman, and now Pryor. I guess at tOSU it doesn’t matter what “style” their QB is, they just plug in talent and keep rolling.
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
In case you missed it
the Chargers blog, Bolts from the Blue, did a feature on Dan Fouts yesterday:

so there's a pretty good thread
over at the Utah Utes blog. Canard is holding his own but we need to set these guys straight.
Not worth the effort
He thinks only Utah would be a consistent threat to USC in the conference. Plus, he thinks the Utes are better than both Oregon schools, and equal to Cal and…UCLA.
No point in debating crazy.
The “dramatic drop off after USC” comment kind of turns me off. USC is great, but they have not gone undefeated in conference play in some time (Three years? Or, is it more?). Even many of the games they’ve won have been highly competitive…just ask Cal.
I will cut the guy some slack. When I take off my green and yellow glasses, I see that it must be really frustrating to be a Utah fan. I think they’re screwed until a playoff happens – something I hold out hope for happening in my lifetime.
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
Also....
It’s stupid to think that expansion would make a few teams rise to the top….
Has anyone ever heard of the ACC, the most ridiculously mediocre conference ever?
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
I can sympathize with his frustration, but arguing that Utah would instantly transform the conference is just plain delusional.
Oh, what, you mean you don’t agree with his assertion that Utah would give the PAC 10 the IMMEDIATE injection of steady quality at the top we’ve needed to unseat USC?!
If that kid didn’t live in Utah I’d swear he was high or drunk.
