Five Matchups I'd Like
I know I don't post on here much, but I got bored. I'm spending the summer in Kansas, and watching too much Royals baseball has made me depressed. So here goes. These are a few programs I'd love to see a home-and-home deal with in football. I chose one school from each major conference. And no, Boise State fans, the WAC doesn't count.
SEC: LSU
The Ducks take on arguably the most arrogant coach and program in the SEC. Remember when LSU fans gobbled up Rose Bowl tickets just to have to resell them later? I laughed in glee. And yeah, I know LSU won't come out west unless they play the Fuskies. I don't care. We can play at Death Valley twice and put the SEC in its place.
Pro: Chip Kelly vs. Gary Crowton.
Con: Listening to Les Miles flap his mouth.
Big 12: Texas
I've liked Mack Brown as a coach ever since his UNC days. Every year, I cheer for the Horns to hook the pOUters in Dallas. And I also think Colt McCoy was more worthy of the Heisman because he did more with less. Anyways, enough with my anti-Okie agenda.
Pro: Exposure to the fertile recruiting grounds in Texas; LaMichael and DT get to play a game close to home.
Con: Mack Brown vs. Nick Allowatti
ACC: Virginia Tech
I think Frank Beamer is one of the most underrated coaches in the country. They're never that great in the passing game, but their rushing game is usually decent, and their offense always seems to do enough to get them by. The Hokies ALWAYS have superior defense and special teams, and it'd be epic to see what Chip does against one of the nation's perenially toughest defenses.
Pro: Night game in Blacksburg.
Con: If we wear the grellow lids, it'd easily be the most aesthetically displeasing game all season. Gross.
Big Least: West Virginia
Chip's spread takes on the West Virginia spread. Sure, Pat White is gone, but this is still the only team worth playing in this conference.
Pro: Watching Noel Devine.
Con: Travelling to West Virginia.
Little 10: Penn State
C'mon, you've gotta love JoePa and the original stormtrooper look. Even though I still have Ki-Jana Carter nightmares from the last meeting between our two schools. The bottom line: Ohio State is overrated, Rich Rodriguez is an a-hole, and we've played the rest of the Big 10 teams in the regular season at some point in the past 10-15 years (with the exception of Northwestern).
Pro: Whiteout in Happy Valley, blackout in Eugene.
Con: We wear the all-whites in Beaver Stadium and the crowd leaves because they can't differentiate between the two teams.
Random at-large: Army
Really, we'd just love to see the camo unis.
Pro: Give area vets a chance to cheer on the Black Knights.
Con: We have to watch them too (116th in '08 scoring offense, 119th in passing offense, 110th in total offense).
Runners up:
SEC: Florida
Big 12: Texas Tech
ACC: Georgia Tech
Big Least: bleh
Little 10: Ohio State

Oops
We never played Minnesota in the regular season that I remember, only in the postseason. Just a sidenote so I don’t look stupid.
Look at it this way, if we were in the NBA, we'd be completely amped up for a high probability of landing the #1 lottery pick...
I want Ohio State
Those guys cruise through that conference untested every year. I’d love to expose them for what they really are.

Not flaming—I’m a good citizen, I swear—but wasn’t this an issue during Dixon’s senior year for Oregon fans? I know two families personally that had prematurely purchased nat’l championship tickets to unload after a certain night in a certain stadium in Arizona.
That said, everyone I know who made the LSU trip said they had a lot of fun and that the fans were good people—somewhat gracious winners, too. Pre-game was less than fun though. Lots of people saying, “Tiger bait! Tiger bait!” at the sight of orange and black. Crap. Should’ve won that game. Sernaaa!

You had me at White out vs. Black out
Lets go into happy valley and beat them so bad JoPa has to retire because people can’t coach after they deal with a good ol’ fashioned pitch fork and torch mob.
I also really like the idea of WVU and UO fighting it out from spread supremacy. Good list over all.

Nope
It just took me this long to finally admit it. Haha.
Is it football season yet?

Though it has none of the appeal of the games being promoted, I’d like to get the Indiana road game back. Oregon owes those guys a little something.
In my dreams we’d see Nick Saban bring Alabama west to Autzen. Fantastic match-up and maybe an eye opener for some die-hard ’Bama fans (replay the Michigan game in your mind).
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
oooooooo....
I’m pickin’ up what you’re layin down

Wait... are you suggesting an SEC team play a formidable out of conference opponent on the road?!
You just outlined precisely why we’ll never see these jerks in the NW. I mean really, what would The Citadel do if their SEC chums were to start canceling and heading out west for non-conference games? They’d be lonely.

Tennessee and Georgia and both slated to visit Autzen in the next 6 years. I’m very excited for those games.

It is going to look so weird to see them
Just the thought of Georgia uniforms and players in Autzen just doesn’t seem right. Can’t wait. They are going to wish there were hedges just so they could be at least 4’ further from the crowd. And they would never admit defeat but I would love to here honest sound level comparisons by our players and theirs.

Those are the two that actually seem to travel a little bit. I’m talking more about Florida, LSU and Albama.

Tennessee likes to crap its pants on the road so that should be a W for you guys. I don’t think Kiffin is going to have them in very good shape by then. Hell, he probably won’t be the coach anyway. GA should be tough.

Florida, LSU LOL!!!
Right…..this will never happen. My votes goto Texas #1 and Penn St. #2.
What about another Oregon-Michigan matchup when Rich Rod gets that program up and running?
