Very OT: Quinn STILL has a band.
So, yeah, Jeremy asked for more when more was available, and I felt comfortable with you guys' feedback last time to offer it my stuff up again.
Punk Rock, by Terminal Velocity.
Least I Could Do, by Terminal Velocity.
The lineup and everything is the same. Anything you want to know about the arrangement is in the text on the video itself. Only difference really being is that I engineered this session, with only the guiding hand of my dad, so it was my maiden effort in engineering and producing.
I hope you enjoy it. It's gotten collective boilerplate "it's good" from my friends. So, constructive criticism and compliments alike are much appreciated.
Thank you! Quinn.

Cool experiment with melodies there. Vocals are so hard when you’re still finding your sound but you do a good job staying in your range. There’s a lack of harmony with your backup vocals though. Again, that’s hard too.
Tell that drummer of yours to tighten it up. Even drumming in that style needs a little snappiness to it.
On a side note, and not meant as a slight to your drummer, but have you thought about sequencing your own drums on a sampler or PC? Buy a drum machine. I think you’ll have a lot of fun with it. Or a sampler. Either way. You’ll have fun, honest.
I have no other suggestions at this time. Other than to change the name of your band. It sounds like a Keanu Reeves flick. This, as you can imagine, confuses me.

It’s ‘cause they’re awesome.

Chances are we like SOME of the same music.
Drum machines and samplers, in proper context, are excellent.
In the wrong arrangement, you are right, they are soul slaying and plastic and gross.
But I am afraid that you don’t like the same music as me too. It’ll be OK though. You’ll get through it.

I’m okay with listening to real musicians play, and have freedom of improvisation.
I’ll be honest, I can’t think of a song where a Drum machine or sampler is used and I liked their use in the song.
I think they are a lazy crutch.

You familiar with Frankie Beverly (MAZE), Zapp and Roger, Stevie Wonder, Brian Eno, Shuggie Otis… Hall and Oates?

Well, I’m inclined to agree with JShu. Is that a drum machine they use in the Fergalicious video? Cause I do like that!
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
I didnt’ make myself 100% clear, and it isn’t fair to throw a blanket statement like I did. It isn’t that I don’t like the artist. I meant that I didn’t like the drum machine or the sampler. It usually sounds tacky.
And when I said “lazy crutch”, I was more of referring to R&B/Hip Hop (And a lot of Pop) where drum machines are rampant. A lot of artists probably couldn’t keep up with an Anthony Kiedis-esque run with an organic beat. I’m of the philosophy that the rhythm section of a band isn’t there to keep time for the rest of the band, but to… lay down the rhythm of a song. Every person in the band is responsible to keep the correct timing. Instead a lot of artists/musicians use drum machines as a glorified metronome.
Maybe I’m too much of a mix of old school jazz and rebel hard rock.

Anthony Kiedis-esque run?
Anthony Kiedis only sings. You may mean John Frusciante.

I meant Anthony Kiedis. I was referring to his frequent quick tempo staccato lyric delivery. Though even Anthony Kiedis doesn’t compare to what John Popper can throw out there.

Ah.
I didn’t know quite what you meant. John Popper’s a great singer too.
Fun fact: John Popper has never had a girlfriend.

I know, I was talking about the term "run" which I thought he was associating with "riff"
A riff (Frusciante) would be executed upon a beat (Smith/Will Ferrell), with vocals (Kiedis). And somebody in the background would be doing a line of coke (Flea).

Thanks Arby.
He’s a pretty talented kid though. He usually is pretty precise and clear with his parts… do you think his drumming on this track is too cluttered or something? I could see where you’re coming from if so.
On your side note, no, and I do not intend to. My dad experimented with it in the early 90s and there’s no way I would head off into that direction. It’s been the regrettable aspect to many of his tracks that I’ve heard, and I don’t feel like I need that sort of thing. But, thank you for the suggestion.
Terminal Velocity, if you were confused about it or something, means the velocity at which objects in motion reach, in so many words, the speed at which they top out. Generally referring to an object in freefall. I got it from my science class and I liked it, that’s all.
Thanks for your comments though, very helpful.

Terminal Velocity
A 90’s “action” “film” starring Charlie Sheen and Nastassja Kinski (and a young James Gandolfini)

I do agree, however, with the actual definition, Quinn. Good tunes too. Keep ’em coming!
May we hand you your taints on a silver platter...
So THAT is what terminal velocity means. Thanks!
As far as your boy’s drumming, it just came off as sloppy to me. I’d have to listen again but I’m going into a meeting and can’t. Anyway, I’d consider using whatever recording/noise making equipment you can get your hands on. Just ‘cause your dad didn’t have a good run with snyths or drum machines doesn’t mean you can’t work it… using it in the genre you’re in would be a little out of place if done poorly but you can definitely create a sound with those tools.

The Postal Service abuses it, and the early days of All-American Rejects didn’t even have a drummer. Though, in fairness, they didn’t have any big songs without a guest drummer (Ref: Paper Heart)

How does the Postal Service abuse it?
They’re the only ones I can think of who I can actually tolerate the sound of it from.

Well… it’s part of their sound. I personally can’t stand the band, so I don’t know if they have a drummer, but I don’t think they do. Do they? It’s pretty much Ben Gibbar and a guy with a sound board and a laptop, right?

It's Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello.
In so many words, it’s a combo of programmed beats, and beats played on a digital drumset by Tamborello, sent to Gibbard, and Gibbard writes songs to them. The beats are already cut and dried by the time the actual song is laid upon it.
It is their sound. And, honestly, it’s not the kind of thing I like. I love their songs though. If a whole traditionally arranged band were playing it, I’d probably like them just as much or more. It’s just something different, and I like it just as much.

Rec'd for not being able to stomach the Postal Service.

Also, I've added the link to the other song we recorded last week.
It’s a song he wrote and sang and played guitar(s) on, while I drummed. We switched for the song, essentially.

Creed is a terrible band.
Just wanted to get that out there. Ya know, since we’re talkin’ music and all.

Thank you kindly!
I’m very glad you enjoy it. If you subscribe to my channel on youtube, we’re recording at a mad pace right now so we have a new song out every few days or so.

Very nice, Quinn
We most definitely need to get together and jam one of these days. I am attempting this whole “put a band together” thing myself but it’s a little hard with the talent you find out here in Elmira/Veneta…..ughhh….Well, anyways, my songwriting partner and I are gonna take it to the streets next week at the Saturday Market downtown. You should come check us out. We go by the “Mom Rockets”
Tanner, email me or something. I'd totally be down for that.
You don’t happen to play bass do you?
