Morning Quack Fix: 6.4.09
All the Quack that's fit to print...which isn't much today.
- It's Oregon day as ESPN's College Football Live will feature our football-crazy state - show airs at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Hopefully we'll be able to get the video posted here so anyone who actually works for a living and doesn't have TIVO can see it. And...the results are in, and about 5900 ESPN pollsters love Oregon more than Oregon State. There is still time to vote.
- With the obvious importance of the Boise State road game, have we been understating how big the home matchup with Utah is? ESPN's Graham Watson focuses on Utah's questions at quarterback.
- It sounds like former Duck QB Chris Miller is enjoying life as an NFL assistant. Andrew Bagnato of the Associated Press post a story yesterday highlighting Miller as Arizona's QB coach.
- Where did last season's leading Oregon receiver land? Terence Scott is now with the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League. Good article by the Knoxville News, with interesting comments from Scott regarding the loss of his redshirt year at Oregon. Yes, Terence, we wish you had another season in Eugene too!
- Okay, so this is very loosely tied to Oregon sports, but I know many ATQers follow a favorite sports radio station. The Portland Tribune says the 1-year battle between "The Fan" and "The Game" are in a virtual dead heat for ratings. Which is your favorite and why?
If you find anything else that's noteworthy, please post it.

Autzen Stadium is where great teams go to die." - J. Brady McCullough, The Michigan Daily.
Lindy Sports has Oregon at No. 15, two spots behind BSU at 13, and 3 behind Cal at 12.

I’m guessing we’re 3- to 4-point dogs in the opener at Boise.
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
Works for me. Give 3 points for home field, and I think beyond that, the teams will be about even. Both teams have their questions. Oregon: offensive line, Boise: defensive front 7.
I actually think that Boise’s offense will be a bit suspect. They lose a lot of receivers, and Johnson (though BSU fans think he’s easily replaceable). I think that our defense should have an early advantage.

Yeah. One returning starter in a BSU front seven against a now-veteran Masoli read-option running game? I don’t really thinks some BSU fans get how different the Jeremiah Masoli offense will be to start this season versus what they faced last season from Masoli, Harper and Thomas.
One other thing I think is key, though it may be impossible to identify tangibly: The coaches off-season visit with TCU. The Horned Frogs’ top-shelf defensive unit held BSU to 16 in a bowl game last year. Anyone think the Oregon staff didn’t go down to Fort Worth with a purpose, given what’s potentially riding on this one game? I’m sure the conversation went like this… “Hey TCU guys, how would you like a one-day private seminar about how to score 65 points and run up 693 yards of offense on your rival? We’d be happy to exchange that for your defensive game plan against Boise State.”
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
It will be very amazing how differently the offense will be this year against BSU. Last year, we didn’t even start running the read option until the UCLA game, when Masoli used that very well, so well that it hurt his passing game, in my mind.
I really don’t know how BSU will prepare for that.

the same way everyone else prepares for it...
oh I can’t do it, I can’t pull out some lame X-men line. ok sure I can
… hope and pray to the football gods.
Sleeping under an avalanche with Cartman, wake me Sept 3.
Looks like Utah is still grapping with who will start at QB.

We talked a few days ago about UCLA and Phil Steele’s ranking of them at 24, which Matt Hinton breaks down today.

Ah ha! Heaps apparently not going to UW.
From my time living up north last year I’d say many UW fans were counting on Sarkisian landing Jake Heaps, a 5-star pro-style QB from Issaquah who some think is the best in the nation. Looks like he’s going to BYU. He’s probably the real deal, and I’m personally happy that he’ll be throwing touchdowns in a conference other than the Pac-10. Washington will have to find resurrection somewhere other than their own backyard. Quite a blow for Sark on a hometown kid.
Here the story from the Seattle Times. Heaps was also looking at Cal, where I think he would’ve been a terrific fit.
I'm really tired of it not being football season.
Biggins over at ESPN also confirms that Heaps will likely be attending BYU.

HEAPS OF DISAPPOINTMENT FOR THE HUSKIES
It’s only fair to mention UW is having a very good early recruiting season and has notions of signing one of two other 5-star QBs. Joe Montana’s kid being one of those two. The guys at UW Dawg Pound are saying all the things you’d expect them to say, but those comments largely amount to the same BS as a few Duck fans who said they really didn’t want Bryce Brown anyways.
Still, this has to sting. And I have to laugh.
I'm really tired of it not being football season.

Have to prefer the Fan
I can’t like any network that games airtime to Oregon Duck hater Canzano. Naw really I just like the FAN better…
Proud member of Duck nation!
What the hell, Wyoming?!
Wyoming and Rhode Island have decided that, unlike the REST OF THE COUNTRY, they are going to go with the Beavers in the best Oregon team poll. Seriously, what are those frickin people drinking???
Smart states

Both those states only had 7 people who voted
Wyoming only had 3/7 people vote for an OSU team, and RI had 4/7 who voted for an OSU team.
